here's a word problem: an english word is the masculin version of the word and plural, but add an "s" to the end and the word becomes the singular form of the feminine version of the same word...what is the final word?

Ah, another Car Talk listener. :p

Here are a couple more riddles for all you happy people

Easy: If "post" is spelled P-O-S-T, and "most" is spelled M-O-S-T, how do you spell the word for what you put in a toaster?

(Note: This one actually works a lot better if you ask it, in person, as opposed to reading it.)

Intermediate: An explorer was traveling through a jungle, when he came to an fork in the road. The explorer knew that one path led deeper into the jungle, while the other led to safety. At the intersection there was a tribesman, but the explorer didn't know if he was a member of the Lyman Tribe (whom always lie) or the Truthor Tribe (who always tell the truth).

If the explorer is only allowed to ask the tribesman one question, what question could he ask the tribesman, if he wanted to be sure of the way out of the jungle?

Tough: Nikki, Liz, Sarah, Alex, and Ashley) all went to the gym one day for a workout. After the workout, they all decided to take a sauna. Each of them brought an item into the sauna with them. Alex had a Walkman, Liz had a thermos, Ashley had a book (hardcover), and both Nikki and Sarah had magazines.

After about 10 minutes, they came out of the sauna, and Nikki was found dead, she had a deep stab wound on her chest. The police thougroughly searched each of the others, and they also searched the sauna. No weapon was found, and there was no blood anywhere, except on the floor (and Nikki's chest obviously...)

Assuming nobody entered or left the sauna, during the 10 minutes that the five were in there, who killed Nikki, and how?

Easy: B-R-E-A-D, though some people might put T-O-A-S-T in if it wasn't done enough the first time.

Medium: "If I asked a member of the other tribe which way to go to be safe, which way would he say?" Then go the opposite way. If you're talking to a Truthor, he will tell you what the liar would say and say the path deeper into the jungle. If you're talking to a Lyman, he'll lie and point to the path that the truth teller wouldn't point you to. So either way, they'd respond with the wrong path, so take the other.

Hard: Although I can't say precisely who killed Nikki, but Liz did bring in the weapon. The thermos had an icicle inside, which melted quickly after it was exposed to the heat of the sauna, but there was just enough time for it to be used to stab Nikki.

Mr. Grass got it. Here's some more to keep you busy.

Before Mount Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain on Earth?

In Duncan's cottage, where the temperature was below freezing, there was a newspaper, a fireplace, some kindling, and a kerosene lamp. What should he light first?

Joe was on the Isle of Belige. On this island, natives always lie, and visitors always tell the truth. He was having lunch with a salesman and needed to know if he was a native or a visitor. In order to find out, he decided to give the salesman a test. He saw a woman at another table and said, "Go ask her if she is a native or a visitor." When he returned, he said, "She says she is a visitor." From the information given, can he determine if the salesman is a native or a visitor? If so, how?

This is a most unusual paragraph. How quickly can you find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so normal and ordinary that you'd think nothing was wrong with it- and in fact, nothing is wrong with it. It is unusual though. But why? Study it, work hard, and you just might find out. Try to do it without coaching. If you work at it for a bit, you should find it. So why not jump to it and try your skill at figuring out. Good luck- don't blow your cool!

1.Mt Everest was the highest even before it was discovered. Just that no one knew it.

2.A match.

3.The salesman is a visitor.
The woman would have said she was a visitor either way. If she really was, she would have told the truth. If she was a native, she would have lied and said she was a visitor.
If the saleman was a native, he would have said that the woman said she was a native.
