ROUND 3 INFO & RULES

SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2010 (midnight)

THE TASK:

1. You must upgrade Jonathan's deck using three available card sources:
-- Jonathan's Existing deck from Round 2
-- Jonathan's Birthday Packs !
-- Jonathan's Binder Collection (from round 2)
-- TRADES you make with Kid Zero!
2. You can only change 14 cards from your round 2 final decklist.
3. You have to explain your changes to Jonathan so he'll know how to play his deck.

CARDS YOU GET THIS ROUND:

1. YOU GET TO TRADE FOR CARDS !!! - limit 25 cards coming IN.
(you are trading with a kid from league named "KID ZERO")

Here's "KID ZERO"'s binder of Fun & Randomness - CLICK HERE

2. YOUR BINDER (from last round) - Click Here
(you CAN trade out from Jonathan's binder, your Birthday packs, and your deck !)

3. Jonathan's Birthday Packs - ALL HGSS!
(see all of his pulls below)

Trade Rules:

Trade by rarity symbol (regardless of which card is "better")
This means you trade:

  • Level 1 - common for common
  • Level 2 - uncommon for uncommon
  • Level 3 - Supporter/Trainer for Supporter/Trainer
  • Level 4 - Rare for Rare
  • Level 5 - Holo for Holo
  • Level 6 - UltraRare for UltraRare

Special Considerations:

  • Energy is considered "common"
  • Special Energy is considered to be in Supporter/Trainer category
  • "Hard to get" cards are not taken into consideration. So, it's fine to trade a Dragonite LA for an Uxie LA, for example.

TO CLARIFY RARITY:

  • "UltraRare" are shinies, secret rares, LvXs, and Primes[/I]
  • To keep things simple, "HOLO" is any card with set numbers 1 - 12 (So, if a card in real life is a #13 holo, it doesn't matter for the purposes of this round. Just treat it as "rare")
  • RARE is any card that has a set number higher than 12 but has the "star" rarity symbol in the bottom right corner.

"LEVEL-UP TRADE RULES:

You may "trade up" or "trade down" a level, but this can only be done for levels 3, 4, and 5.

Three ways to trade:

1. You may trade evenly (one card for another of exact same rarity).

For example:
  • 1x Arceus #5 (level 5 - holo) for 1x Dragonite #1 LA (level 5 - holo)
  • 1x Crobat Prime for 1x Gliscor LvX

2. You may trade 2x cards of a lower level to obtain a single copy of a higher level card - IF the levels are consecutive.

For example:
  • Trading UP = You may trade 2 PokeTurn (level 3 - Supporter/Trainer) for 1 Tyranitar SF (Level 4 - rare ).
  • Trading Down = You may trade a 1x Spiritomb AR (Level 4 - rare ) for 2 Broken Time Space (level 3 - Supporter/Trainer)

3. You may trade two (2) levels apart, but must double the amount of cards.

For example:
  • Trading UP = You may trade 4x Ledians (level 2 - uncommon) for 1x Raichu SF (Level 4 - rare)
  • Trading Down = You may trade 1x Dialga #5 PL (Level 5 - holo) for 4x cards PokeTurn, Expert Belt, Bebe Search, Cynthia's Guidance (all Level 3 - trainer/supporter)

Jonathan got 12 Booster Packs for his Birthday!!

Trade Rules:

Trade by rarity symbol (regardless of which card is "better")
This means you trade:

  • Level 1 - common for common
  • Level 2 - uncommon for uncommon
  • Level 3 - Supporter/Trainer for Supporter/Trainer
  • Level 4 - Rare for Rare
  • Level 5 - Holo for Holo
  • Level 6 - UltraRare for UltraRare

Special Considerations:

  • Energy is considered "common"
  • Special Energy is considered to be in Supporter/Trainer category
  • "Hard to get" cards are not taken into consideration. So, it's fine to trade a Dragonite LA for an Uxie LA, for example.

TO CLARIFY RARITY:

  • "UltraRare" are shinies, secret rares, LvXs, and Primes[/I]
  • To keep things simple, "HOLO" is any card with set numbers 1 - 12 (So, if a card in real life is a #13 holo, it doesn't matter for the purposes of this round. Just treat it as "rare")
  • RARE is any card that has a set number higher than 10 but has the "star" rarity symbol in the bottom right corner.

Does limit 14 mean we can receive no more than 14, even if we trade down?

EDIT: And by theme deck from round 2, you mean the ones we PMed you, or you PMed us?

Okay this round looks like fun. Got some sorting to do tomorrow, but it looks like there might be a general strategy behind this.

Jonathan's binder hasn't been updated, right? So any cards we used from it in Round 2 are still in there?

Does limit 14 mean we can receive no more than 14, even if we trade down?

That was a good question!
I'm going to change the rules to 14 CHANGES TO THE DECK.
Then, I'll limit the TRADES to 25 cards coming IN.

Thank you for asking that!

EDIT: And by theme deck from round 2, you mean the ones we PMed you, or you PMed us?

Your FINAL decklist from round 2 is what you have available to you now.

Question: Alph Lithograph's rarity is? Does it counter as a Level 6, Level 3, or something else? Thanks!

~Cardz.

EDIT: Also, can we trade rotated cards of similar rarity for legal cards? This is pretty relevant to my trade scheme...mwahaha and such...

I think your numbers contradict each other, RA. Is a card with a set number of 11 a rare, or a holo?

Can we use cards we took out of the deck last round that were Modified-Legal?

One quick question: when offering Jonathan help on Task 3 ("explain your changes to Jonathan so he'll know how to play his deck"), is it already assumed that he knows how to play his final list from round two? The narrative established quite strongly that Jonathan hates Arceus now, but there's still some uncertainty as to whether he "gets" the other nuances of the list that he didn't show frustration with.

EDIT: Loop in the time-space continuum here, but clarification on kscott's question...That basically means we can double up on any binder cards we used for round two, right?

EDIT 2: Ugh, keep thinking of things. What's the competitor cutoff for this round?

That's what prompted me to ask it, as I started doubling up immediately before realizing I had already added the cards last turn. I think R_A's response implies that we're responsible for checking what we already added from the Binder so that we don't add it twice. I read it as

uh. right. That's what you do.

>Looks at pack 6

>Kid pulled 2 standard rares, 3 holo rares, 2 trainers and a Prime

0__________________________________o

Not to mention in 2 packs he gets 2 Amhpy Primes and both haves of Ho-oh Legend. And in pack 12 he gets 2 Primes. Plus he got 2 Alphs.

DEAR ARCEUS. I want to find this kid and let him open my packs
