Doing it in a relational database would be better because the server would only have to serve the info for one card, and the searches could be cached to reduce server load. I'm still thinking about what would be the best way to set up the tables.

Babayaga, the only thing I would suggest for a relational database would be to have fields for the Pokemon, Set, Card Number, and Attack/Power. That way, you could do a search and (a) get all rulings for a specific Pokemon or (b) get rulings for a specific Attack or Power. (In my database, I basically treat trainers as if they're a Pokemon and the trainer effect as if it's an Attack.)

Khym, thanks! You did a great job running the tournament. We'll put the pictures out on my wife's website (we'll send you the link) and you can download them from there and publish them as you wish. (Tell your wife we loved her brownies and cookies!)

Well this is the the best thing I've ever seen in the world of Pokemon. Thank You! I heard on the radio the other day about making money from banner ads in connection with Google. I know it might not be a popular thing to suggest but you should be compensated for all of your work! Thank You again

I thought about the dld4a, but I really just did this (a) to learn some of the technology and (b) put the information that I've kept main to myself out there for others to use.

If somebody were to come to me and say they'd give me $X.XX to put a banner add up there, would I turn it down? Probably not. But I'm not going to go out of my way to find a sponsor.

Progess

Well, I've gotten all but some of the Trainer card rulings for -EX loaded into a gnumeric (xml-based) spreadsheet. From there I'll develop a MySQL table and populate it with the xml data. This is all for my own personal use at this point, mind you. Any public release and application would be subject to the approval of TC. ;)

That sounds great Beth. If you want to do some testing on it let me know. If you gave me the fields and database info, I could whip up a page to link to it (and eventually incorporate that into the search results of the TCG database).

I tried to search for all cards that evolve from any or all fossil's, but couldn't make it work. Some way to search for pokemon that "evolve from" would be nice.

dld4a, I've thought about that before but haven't done anything about it.

I've been reluctant because so much of that information is static (Kadabra ALWAYS evolves from Abra, Charizard ALWAYS evolves from Charmeleon, Brock's Ninetales ALWAYS evolves from Brock's Vulpix, etc.).

I'll put it on the list and see what I can do.

I'm kind of concerned about the dual types and seeing how that affects things. (I thought it would ok because I handle dual weaknesses without problems, but I actually handle Types differently than I handle Weakness/Resistance, so I think I've got some significant changes.)

Whew!

The database has been updated with the Team Magma/Team Aqua cards.

Enjoy!

(Again, if anyone finds errors (especially with this new set), please let me know. I'm breaking new ground with the "dual types" and am concerned about bugs.)
