A question has been brought to me about the Salamence d main attack. Do you have to discard an actual metal energy for the attack or can you discard something that provides metal. The attack specifies that you muat discard a metal energy card. Other attacks that make you discard metal, such as Raichu d state that you must discard a metal energy, but not necessarily a metal energy card.

Thanks for the reply. It does get a little confusing because other things like Starmie d power says to search your deck for a metal energy card and is specific. The Salamence is also specific. I guess thats why it kinda had me wondering.
 
The difference is that Rainbow-like cards don't provide any color in the deck, only while they are in play.
 
if you look at the cards that provide rainbow type energy, they say they provide the energy only when it is in play. So if you have a multi energy or delta rainbow, you could discard either of those and they would count.
