I remember that last year God of war claimed almost every award! Its a great game but that was garbage.
Spike TV's VGA perhaps was garbage?

spike is only good for 1 thing and that thing is called Manswers
Yeah, spikes VGA's were pretty bad but I do agree with them on the game of the year, if it was Bioshock (I turned it off like halfway through). On the Bioshock side though, that is the best game on any of the current gen systems to date IMO. Yeah, Spike is only good for Star Trek, gotta love Star Trek Voyager. :biggrin:

spikes vga's suck. they should have at least put god of war 2, CoD 4, and mario galaxy as nominies for GoY, even if they didnt win, its the thought that would count.

If it was Halo 1 it deserved every award, if it was Halo 2 it deserved none. On topic...
I just started playing Bioshock last night and my first impression was that it's not GOTY material. I don't know, I think my expectations have been too high for it since I heard about it. The atmosphere of the game is amazing, but the level construction seemed really basic and linear. Of course, this is just after playing through the first stage, so I'll probably change my mind after awhile. I do, however, respect the game's intention on making morality a central theme to the storlyine.

Well, all I know is that if Bioshock won GotY, then it has to be screwy. I'm sorry Moltres, but not everyone shares your opinion about it. And besides which, you can't know that it deserved GotY, because you don't know the opinions. The bottom line is that the reason Spike's VGAs suck is because it's not a vote. A bunch of people get together and agree upon the winner, it's not about us, it's about what they think is best. That's completely unequal representation (I'm studying Government this year, expect these sorts of view points from me from now on).

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. Almost all video game publications give out awards at the end of the year, and none of them poll their audience for their opinions. There's no reason to. They simply put their heads together and find something to agree upon.
The problem with Spike is that they really don't know jack about video games. After all, its not their buisiness. They just pick what they think people want to hear. After all, their target audience isn't exactly the target audience for Mario Galaxy, hence why it was never in the running.

Meanwhile, G4, which has an entire two or three hour block (can't remember which) devoted to video games (not to mention the MLG) knows how to make absolutely sure that it will cater to it's audience. So why does Spike delve into a VGA that few people want to watch when they don't even focus on video games at all.

Wrong. There are a lot more things that make a great game then sales it took in. Look at actual story plots,graphics,controls,replay value,game length,multiplayer value, and other such things when gauging a game's value.
Sales mean next to nothing! Maybe I should go out and buy some cigarettes and alcohol since that seems to be so popular?

Yeah I've hated The VGA's. Also, out of all the trailers, TNA Impact seems to be a big ripoff of the early WWE Smackdown games.

i reliable sorce did give bioshock game of the year though.
i got the new gameinformer today and bioshock got game of the year, and every other game thats been mentioned in this thread was in the best 50 of the year.
mario also got number 1 hero of the year. and "through fire and the flames" on gh3 got number 4 villian of the year lol.

use to get Game Informer, must say I dont think its a very good magazine though, only magazine I ever found reliable was Game Pro, and even EGM is bias and caters to whatever is the flavor of the month and they will ride that coat tail.
