Over recent sets I have got about 45 codes and not yet entered any. Is it possible to play with this amount of codes and not always lose? If so, what packs would you reccomend I go for, and what deck would be best to make? Thanks.
 
It's gonna be hard... you probably need a lot more than 45 to make a competitive deck with all the staples as such.
I would buy some packs from Noble Victories (it is a great set), but I would also save some for Next Destinies.
 
If you just want meta but not TOP TOP tier, you could go with UL. Blastoise, Candy, Floatzel, etc are all in the same set. It's not a horrible deck. Between 45 pulls and a bit of trading you could build it. Manaphy is in UL as well, in place of cleffa.
 
yeah, Im not excpecting top tier with 45 codes. Im worried that if I buy UL though it will get rotated soon and then I would be back to square 1. If I bought a mix of next destinies and mainly noble victories maybe I could trade some rarer cards for staples like catcher and make some kind of "less than 6 corners" deck?
 
Wait until ND is available. Cash in 3/4 on ND and 1/4 on Triumphant or NV. From there you can trade the packs for any cards you want. That's how I did it. I had a booster box worth of codes, cashed them in for 3/4 NV and 1/4 TM, and made public offers for the cards I needed. About 2 hours later I had my CaKE list completely assembled (all Cobalion and Terrakion are full arts) and half of my Chandy done. It's so easy it's like stealing.

General guide:

1 pack - miscellaneous trainers/3-4 of a common or uncommon

2 packs - rares/solid trainers & supporters/some full arts

3 packs - big ticket cards (eg Magnezone, collector etc.)

I anticipate Mewtwo EX going for 4-6 packs each once ND is available, so save some for those.
 
you can also try looking for the cards u want here,many of us who play PTCGO have many for trade and the popular primes and rares are low priced nowadays in compare to earlier days-for example feraligatr,,typhlosion prime etc

examples-magnezone prime-minimum price of 5 packs,goes up to 7
collector-2-4 max,
rare candy,minimum of 3
some people try to scam you on public offers by offering 1 pack for valuable cards like rare candy,collector,zekrom,reshiram etc, and then they trade it for more packs,but i think nowadays,especially on 8th february,u will be able to get the cards u need cheaper especially because of the starting hype from the online cards of ND.if you offer ND packs,you will get them cheaper.
i would try by posting my wants here though and offering codes/packs for them
 
^ His values are a little high but yeah that's how many packs you can trade for one of a given card that's in those categories.
 
The best way is how everyone has mentioned. I got 100 codes, and turned it into 4 meta decks, off trading alone.
