Super Smash Brothers Melee- Best character?

re

Its very easy to defeat a lv9 enemy, but can you defeat a lv9 enemy with a handicap? I have been testing my self, and I can now easily defeat any lv9 enemy even if I have the highest level of handicap. Ah Pikachu, my best character in the original SSB, he was very good back then. But he was greatly weakend in SSBM, and so was kirby. Kirbys attacks were greatly slowed down, and so was the character himself.

Beating the CPU isn't a very good judge of skill. It's possible to beat 3 Level 9 Handicap 8 CPUs all on a team while you are on Handicap 1 fairly easily, if you decide to abuse their AI.

The 5 characters that I'm best with:
1. Ganondorf (Power (Can you hit a Lvl 9 CPU with B?))
2. Roy (overall best character IMO)
3. DK (Down+B and B charge)
4. Sheik (Speed. Just hit & run. Or smash them into the air and juggle, spike etc.)
5. Bowser (Don't know why really)

Sooner or later I'll plan to buy the Gamecube for $100. In comparing, is it more hard to play SSBM on the Gamecube controller then playing the original on the N64 controller?

Eh, if you want to know the accepted best characters, I could bring up tiers...but I don't want to do that right now.

Anyway, my best is Falco. His spike is just sick, as is the Reflector. The short hop laser combo throws some nice disruption out there, and the Up throw is cool(even though it's really bad).

Also, level 9's aren't a judge of skill. Some of the best tournament players have a hard time with teams of 9's, but they can whip most human players that can. Go figure...

Anyway, let's get back on topic. The question was, who is your best player, and why. Note the word your -- the characters themselves are actually relatively balanced, IMO, but different players always do better with certain ones. For example, I stink with DK and Bowser, but I'm fairly good with Young Link.

captain obnoxious- cool signiature lol ^_^
dkates- why cant everyone get a bit off topic, i like to read these arguments and whatnot... or that could be just me =/

Well since i only got my GC on the 22nd (my B-day) i cant say that im very good =/ but i have beaten the game on HARD mode... perhaps i need to play a little more than 2 hours a day >_<

Captain Obnoxious...are you trying to imply something? ^_^

Anyway, I also like Samus. Projectiles aren't really that important, but they set up many combos from my experience. Plus, she has great recovery in addition to being the 3rd heaviest character in the game...she doesn't die often.

Hey everyone,

Well, I would have to say that the best player without a debt has got to be........LUIGI!!!! Not only does he have a powerful fire uppercut but his fire missile attack could do alot of damage. I know it sounds dumb, but it takes a Luigi Master like me ( :D ) to work the attacks. Anyone care to bring it on....

See ya

Marth is easily one of if not the best character. He's quick and heavy, even if his traction isn't the greatest (meaning he's heavy but he goes a ways when hit). His attacks are quick and hit pretty hard. Plus, Shield Breaker is usable, whereas Roy's Flare Blade is so slow that you'll never hit a human with it fully-charged.

Other than that, I'd say Sheik is one of the best characters. (I'm going to jsut say he despite the fact that Sheik = Zelda). He's very fact and has a lot of moves that knock people around. His specials aren't much to talk about, but his normal attacks combo really, really easily. Sheik died against multiple opponents, but against one opponent, Sheik is death.

Also, "I can beat three level 9s as _____" isn't an argument for your skill, as the AI is still pretty weak compared to actual humans. There are videos out there of some of the insanely-good Japanese nutters fighting (I like the two Roys in Dreamland, that's just plain nuts, even if it's not the best display of skill), and human-against-human is easily the better judge of your skill as opposed to human-against-comupter.

PS, here's a test of skill, although it's for the original SSB: handicap yourself down to 1 at 200% damage, set yourself up against three level 9 Links in Dreamland. No items, just beat them by score. It's harder than Cruel Melee IMO.

Good job naming the definitive best two characters in the game Marill. ^_^

Marth and Sheik are the best characters, hands down. The American and Japanese tier lists reflect this. I can't play well as either of them however...

I must say, I've changed to YoungLink (regular link is too cheap to play while maintaining self-respect, in my opinion), and I can do quite well. The lack of sword range balances out his other abilities, and as I often use items, the Bombs are fun.

I agree about the AI. If I'm playing Jigglypuff, and they're using Kirby, after transforming into me, they can't do their Rollout attack properly. Quite disappointing, to some extent.

I've always been best with Kirby, and possibly Roy as my second best.

Kirby is easy to defeat when the computer is playing with it, but when you put me behind the controller, I can have some fun with it.

I think Roy's pretty good too, since he's pretty strong, and if you get bored, you can hold down B for a couple seconds until he starts glowing... then it deals a loooot of damage. ;-p

But, hardest computer players to defeat in my opinion are Ganondorf and Giga Bowser. I did beat Event 51 using Kirby after a while though. ;-p

In general, I like the middle characters. Not too fast and not too slow, not weak, not too strong. Kirby and Roy fit the middle usually.

Heh -- I used Jigglypuff for Event 51. Took me almost 7 minutes the first time I managed it. I'm not even all that good with Jigglypuff, but I don't think I've ever beaten Event 51 with any other character. Go figure.

(Chants) Jigglypuff!!!! Jigglypuff!!!
(watches as all 3 uber-guys from 51 get knocked out in one hit thanks to...)
Jigglypuff!!!

Yes, it is one of my favourite characters to play as, but I'm not as good with it anymore as I am with YoungLink.

I actually beat event 51 with young link. I still dont know how I did it, but I did it. As for my favorite character, I just love playing as Link. ESPECIALLY in the black costume. It brings out the best in me. I was even a finalist in one of the SSBM tournaments at my school (that's right. AT SCHOOL) all because of Link.
