Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The PERFECT Gyarados counter for SP decks!!!

Someone please tell me why gdos is trouble at all for sp (ie luxchomp)
I have never feared it, and actually love playing against gdos with luxchomp in tojrnesy

Then why are you playing SP?

SP decks don't rely on Luxray - many SP decks can be played without it.

To name a few:

PalkiaChomp, DialgaChomp, BlazeChomp, InferChomp, Sabelock, Honchkrow G Variants, Gallade, HoPe

Of course, all of these decks can be played with a Luxray tech, but it's not absolutely necessary.

btw, notice the abundance of "Chomp" in everything

It really depends on the deck structures. On that matchup, it's anybody's game.

What does that even mean!!??? there is like 5 spots in luxchomp to goof around with, and in gyrados you can do w/e you want, but the fact of the matter is that they destroy you?

The end result of the match depends heavily on how each deck is made. Depending on this factor, either player could win the match.
Is that simple enough for you!?

If you dont get it by now, with 2 answer's that simply say "it depends on the decks structure." then you 1. Either can't play (the game or 'Dos) or 2. You are simple.

Thank you! It's nice to have a littleback-up when dealing with the simpler minds of the communty.

I love that everyone here just assumes that Gyarados doesn't tech against SP. The only time I have ever lost to a SP with Gyarados is when my sableye got t1'd by and uxie off an insanely lucky start by my opponent. The rest of the time, I just smash them.

Anyways, back on topic, *cough*. Does anybody else know of any cards that put damage on your opponent's Bench when they're laid down?

You just don't seem to get that this won't actually stop a good gyarados from working, do you?

I don't know if you are able to attend this thread... I don't see anyplace to park your high horse. Perhaps you should get off of it and join the optimism party?

Look, if you're going to be a scrub and ignore the facts when I'm trying to help you, be like that. Putting damage on the bench will NOT stop any half way decent Gyarados from setting up. Being an optimist is stupid when it's a proven fact that your strategy won't work. It's like getting in a car that's almost out of gas and going on a 100 mile trip and just hoping that you'll make it on the little fuel you have.

I suggest you try to find a different strategy for beating Gyarados. I'll be willing to help you, but you need to be willing to listen first.

Judging in YOUR meta, I've seen Luxcomp simply own G'dos.

But then again... I wasn't over there with the Masters during Regionals :/

Johnny was tearing them up, man!
It's simple. RESOURCES!

Luxray needs a basic, a Lv X, Lucario GL, a Crobat drop, an Energy, and an Energy Gain (or 2nd Energy). Or, 2 Energy, Gain, Lucario, and an Energy discard with Trash Bolt.

If the Gyarados is belted, they HAVE to use Trash Bolt and a Crobat drop to OHKO the thing.
Gyarados is almost guarenteed to OHKO a Luxray from the point they have 3 Karps discarded, onward, and they only require a basic, a Stage 1, and 1 or 2 of their MANY damage boosters (or none atall if it isn't Level'd up).

Not only that, but a 2-2 Lux means JUST THAT. They only have 2 Luxrays! Most SP's will only run 2 recovery cards: 1 Aaron's and 1 Night Maintenance. They have to constantly recover from the OHKO's the Gyarados is dealing them, while also spending a LOT of resources to OHKO them back.

Last but not least, Gyarados is pretty much unaffected by Luxchomp's disruption, as while they have a few bench sitters, none of them are neccessary for the deck to function.

You do forget that Luxchomp isn't about taking prizes against the active pokémon but about taking cheap prizes against low-hp-pokemon like sableye's and other basics. Luxchomp is also much faster then Gyarados because Gyarados is slow. Garchomp can also take prizes against basics.

First off, Gyarados is anything BUT slow. I have a list that sets up consistently by t2/3 every game.

How many of these cheap prizes do you think you're going to realistically going to take? While you attempt to get around my active (I actually enjoy you killing off my bench, and leaving my big nasty gyarados alone), I'm battering your active to death, usually pulling OHKOs. If you kill me, I can set another up instantly, while you have to expend quite a few resources to maintain your attackers. Also, how many basic do you think I'm going to bench? If I see a luxchomp, you can bet that it's not going to be many. Oh, I also tech a 1-1 Donphan to ensure that anyone who wants to get clever with a Luxray/Luxario combo pays dearly for it.

Gyarados beats luxchomp, simple as that.
