The Pokemon TCG Community

Why is it so bad?

The people I come in contact with all seem to want to gang up on newer players, and do nothing but poke fun. I have pretty much only been insulted since I started, with almost no hint of the "friendly community" it is always made out to be.

Seriously, it is making me want to just quit. People are awful.

Online or in person? If in person, might just be a bad group of players

Many players are really creepy. If you want a great community Move to FL, fantastic community with some fantastic players (Justin Sanchez, Miami Mike, Harrison)

Most people's experience of the Pokemon community really is positive. The people who say it's great aren't mistaken or lying.

Maybe you just got unlucky with the people you have met. Maybe you've done something to annoy them. Maybe what you call 'poking fun' is just banter. I dunno.

But just because your experience is bad, doesn't mean that everyone else is wrong.

Well in the south where I live most of everything is chill. I don't remember anyone who was just a complete jerk, and I have met a few players who are just a little arrogant. Chances are if you let your PTO know they will tell them to back off.

Instead of calling the entire community "bad", why not outline specific issues you have? This weekend we had more then 250 people in a tiny room with barely working A/C. I spent the whole day working to give back to the great community we have, and was met with the best response I could get: Hundreds of people tell me how much fun the event was.

So when you say the community is "bad", and give no specifics: I have a lot of trouble believing you.

My community is usually friendly and kind, some people can be annoying or mean at times but so can everyone.
You also don't say if this was just a first time experience and give the word bad out very generally.
odds are if you go to a local league, you will make friends and thats how you start, if it was a more competitive tournament, people are under stress to win, as opposed to the more friendly parts (Battle roads, Cities, league)

See, if this thread was about the Yu-Gi-Oh community, that would make sense...

I can count on one hand the number of people I've met playing this game that I've honestly been irritated, shaken up, or otherwise negatively impacted by. The community is great from where I stand.

I am not sure why they treat you like this.
Not to say I will let a new player win.

If you go to league and are willing to learn they should help.
The only time I got frustrated with a new player was at a states side event when they obviously never played the game before.

As others have said in general people have a good experience, however if you're having an issue with a player or group of players then I would recommend seeking out a league leader or the PTO of your area. PTOs don't always know these kinds of issues, and informing them is often greatly appreciated.

Hopefully you'll be able to find others who don't leave such a negative impression on you in the future.

The community I go to has really nice people in it. I'm pretty sure that your community out there is full of arrogant jerks that don't know the basic rule of thumb for a TCG. I mean, they even take deck building way too seriously. I just want to have fun and break the rules every once in a while, but if there a jerk around, then he'll ruin your fun, so I get how you hate your community.

However, with your scenario, ganging up on newer players is just plain wrong. Honestly, if I was in that league, I'd stand up to them and try my best to prevent your scenario from happening. So, my advice with your issues. Stand up to them and let them know that you are not going to let them jerk you around. The big question is if the League Leader actually supports this. If he does, then it should not be tolerated. Try to go again today and then give us the full details about your scenario so I can base my conclusion. I'm not saying to drive them out, but try to go again and give a report on what exactly happens. Afterwards, we can tell you exactly what to do about this case.

See, if this thread was about the Yu-Gi-Oh community, that would make sense...

Big Note: Do not remind me of that horrible money disposal of a game.
