Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The Top 50 Anime of All Time...According to Anime Insider

When you have an incredibly narrow viewing of the anime genre, you're going to pick the few shows that you saw...

Animé isn't a genre, though. That's like saying "the cartoon genre".

Heck, it is saying "the cartoon genre", just with a foreign word for "cartoon".

These seem mutually exclusive. It's the same reasoning that leads to "it's a good show when you ignore the filler". That logic, specifically the "it's good when you ignore the bad parts" logic, can apply to anything. You're basically just saying, "it's a quality product, despite that most of it doesn't have much quality."

I also enjoy your backpedalling on the "TV is shallow fluff" point.

People have been mistaking it for your list?

I'm not backpedaling, and to prove it I'll say it again: television is by default lazier than reading. All of your senses are indulged at once while watching television (other than touch and...hopefully, taste). Reading, however, generally requires complete comprehension. That's why it's less necessary for a good television show to have plot: because images and music are telling two thirds of the story all on their own.

I never once ignored the issues that DBZ has, and have frequently admitted to it having a simple (albeit convoluted) plot. However, my case is that a program can be so overwhelmingly good in its execution that it doesn't matter how mediocre the plot is.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Now this I can completely agree with! It really is kinda disgusting when I hear someone say, "Oh, I don't like anime" or worse yet, "I LOVE anime!"

It _is_ essentially saying "I love ALL cartoons," which you don't if you're in the greater chunk of the world population.

Overall, nobody should put much value into popularity lists with the mask of "expert analysis." Otherwise, Sephiroth would consistently be considered a better villain than Kefka, which we know isn't true.

But does that make the anime top 50 kettler? Would you really pick DBZ over a show with a better plot and better execution? There's been thousands of animes, and I don't think you can give some shows precedence simply because they were more popular. Oh, and I'll reluctantly agree on the kefka thing, only because I think ff7 had one of the best magic systems ever designed.

Actually, compared to modern Japanese, animated, action-oriented shows, DBZ looks quite a bit dated. Especially in the animation department. Akira's an awesome artist and all (Blue Dragon looks great), but DBZ definately shows its age.

Aww well what can you expect from the late 80's/early 90's??? It was great during its time, like how Star Wars was!

In not surprise DBZ isn't on their. I am surprised that the original Dragon Ball isn't though. Thats the best of the 3 IMO.

Except the original star wars movies are still good now. DBZ, in hindsight, was just a mindless overrated shonen series that was only good when you were a teen and all you thought about was girls and ZOMGZ EXPLOSIONS LOL ROFLCOPTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been stated multiple times that one of the stipulations on this list was that it had to be fully available in English. Death Note, therefore, does not qualify.

That saddens me. Death Note was probably one of the greatest animes I've ever watched. I think the people at Anime Insider are off their rockers. And all the reviews for each anime say its the best ever. Quite pathetic if you ask me.

Which will probably show up arround Issue #100 of Anime Insider, but this time it would be the "Top 100 Anime of all time".

BTW I am not going to post to this site as often, cause I basically gave up on trying to play a game where the nearest league for it is over 100 miles away (yeah, I am talking about Pokemon). Plus, I don't really feel like spending lots of money on cards.

Ctrl+F Wolf's Rain. Not found.

You all disappoint me.

So I recently watched this series, and it started off really nicely. But the last four or so episodes really brought it down a couple notches for me. All they did was wander around in the snow trying to reach some non-existent paradise before the world ended and have the people in their party die one by one. Maybe I'm just really dumb and didn't understand whatever "lesson" or "moral" I was supposed to catch amidst all the bloodshed.

...And into our late teens and early 20's, we still only think of girls and ZOMGZ EXPLOSIONS!!! : )

Here is the list:

Best Hero: Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach
Best Heroine: Lia De Beaumont from Le Chevalier D'Eon
Best Villain: Light from Death Note
So, who do they think the best over-all protagonist is?

I suppose there's not much wrong with this list. Afterall, they don't take into account new series in Japan (some insiders they are. . .). So, I won't fault them for making the glaring mistake of not giving Simon the best Hero and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann the best giant robot.
