So, everyone here knows about the Kingdra coming out, and IMO it's broken. Anyways my question is, obviously there's going to be a lot of kingdra speed decks, probably T2 Kingdra, to the point where it could make the old infernacatty look silly. So with that card being that good, what decks can actually match up and play well/win against it? Or will it become a whoever's kingdra deck works better thing. Maybe i'm making too big a deal about kingdra? lol :p

For those who haven't seen kingdra yet: (straight from pokebeach)

    Kingdra LV.52 – Water – HP130
Stage 2 – Evolves from Seadra

[.] Aqua Stream: Choose any number of Water Energy in your discard pile, show them to your opponent, and do 10 damage for each Energy card. Then, return those Energy to your deck and shuffle your deck.
[W] Dragon Pump: 40 damage. You may discard 2 cards from your hand. If you do, this attack does an additional 20 damage and does 20 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon.

    Weakness: Lightning (+30)
    Resistance: none
    Retreat: 1

Well yes, it is the BDIF in DP-LA. But, some decks can occasionaly play with it/beat it.

    Leafeon w/Espeon and Umbreon
Groudonk(Not much due to a :water: X2 weakness.)
Mirror(As the saying goes, if you can't beat em', join em'.)
Lanturn/Cruel(Probably the least of all here, because it needs more cards
than Kingdra for a "'Setup'", but if it does get the "'Setup'", it's a
Luxray(Like a 5-95 shot, but sacrifice a shinx while powering up another,
it COULD be tenacious. But VERY inprobable.)
Magnezone(Due to High HP, and auto-paralyze. Too slow to win consistently, though.)

Kingdra will have it's day in the sun at BR's, but when IFDS comes around, WHOLE new ballgame.

Well yes, as it has a 55-45 Kingdra matchup.

But, the question is, who will get set up first?

Speed Vire can beat it becasue it can set up T2.

I wish people would stop throwing around the word broken so loosely. Learn what words mean before you use them. There are no broken cards in DP-on released thus far.

    Explain yourself.

How can a tank with low hp get 3 energy in one turn that has a flippy attack?

It would need more than 7 cards to set up.

Kingdra needs 4 cards and sets up T1.

Sorry, but there's just NO way.

Electrode. I'm thinking a 4-4 with Night matinance could do the job. I think it would have a positive matchup.

    Leafeon rips the deck apart!

They do 20 damage while leafeon does 60. Leafeon might just be the play for BRs. However Torterra also has a shot.

Throw a Chansey in front of Kingdra and he can't even donk it, then he wastes two turns trying to kill off a Blissey and fails in the process because he wasted two cards to attempt it, lather while setting up Luxray and go to town.

Correction. 6 if you're trying to donk, and then requiring top deck setup.

Leafeon wins against it, Blissey wins against it, Luxray beats it, and eventually, even more will stand in its way.

Yes Kindra is very good, but its NOT the BDIF.

There are plenty of other very good cards out there that are not getting as much hype that can beat Kingdra.

Funny nobody thinks about Mr Mime techs. It can't attack but takes all the speed from Kingdra, giving your deck time to set up. Unless they run Regice or Dusknoir (if they have Regice you could add a second Mime), Kingdra can't do anything but topdeck a Warp Point or attach three energy against him.

Leafeon beats Kingdra any time because of resistance. Bellossom and Tangrowth have resistance too.
Luxray can OHKO Kingdra for 3 or 2HKO + charge for 2 but you need to have a good decklist and play smart.
Togechomp has good chances if you manage to get out Togekiss and some PlusPowers in time - for midgame, it has the Restore option.

Kingdra is the fastest and may be the best deck in DP-LA, but is far away from being so broken like Plox this time. There are lots of counters and decks with positive matchups (that also survive against other decks).

The chance to get T1 candy Kingdra with energy is about 8% with 4 Horsea, 4 Kingdra, 4 Candy, 4 Bebe and 17 water energy in deck, do you really think you'll get two PlusPowers in addition to this?

Kingdra really isn't as good as people are saying it is. The probability of you getting horsea, rare candy, kingdra, water is so small it's crazy. On top of that even if you manage to get Horsea start (and go second) while you're probably running 2-2 Claydol which means there's two Baltoys you could be starting with also, you're not going to be able to discard two cards for Kingdra's attack with out crippling yourself and relying on top-decks. So realistically you'll have a Kingdra and Claydol by turn three which is to late, because you're opponent should also have some kind of set-up to contend with it.

Froslass is going to be another problem for Kingdra because it can Destiny Bond when Kingdras going to KO it since it's so predictable. The Froslass player would also be losing less since it's only a stage 1 with not many resources used to get it out. Don't say you have a Warp Point since Kingdra lists will probably play two and you won't always have it.

So let see here the list of things that beat Kingdra or have a good shot against it.

    1. Leafeon
    2. Blissey
    3. Torterra
    4. Froslass
    5. Tri-force (pixies)
    6. Luxray
    7. Mr. Mime stuff

    Leafeon rips it apart
    Blissey can only donk it
Torterra is very hard but winable
Frosslass if it takes out kingdras claydols it can win
pixie I'm not sure but if It can donk kingdra it can win
    Luxray hard but easily winable
mine is easy to get around. Warp point work. I can take the time to attach and extra 2 energy if it poses to become a big problem. Or I could just take it and attack the bench.

Kingdra is not a donk deck. It needs claydol to work. Just like infercatty it can donk but to continue it needs support or else it won't survive long. And if the support dies then unless it can get it back up it loses. This is the easest way to beat kingdra.

People: Kingdra is NOT a donk deck. It can donk, but most of the time it won't. So quit treating it as such! The reason Kingdra is so good is because it's got amazing recovery. It uses very few resources and has cheap attacks that build up damage over time.

Kingdra has problems with decks where it can't build up considerable damage. Torterra/Sceptile comes to mind, as does Leafeon. Blissey has big problems though. All Kingdra needs is 2 discards and a Buck's to KO one, and Blissey usually can't deal a KO back because it needs so much energy.
