Wow way to kill the OP we've built up. I'd say NH and CT are out of a State Championship now. MA would probably be on the second date (if NY is on the 1st so the NY players can attend MA).

And Northeast Regional? Not gonna happen or people will be complaining how lousy the event was (unless the team gets split but that'd probably be a mistake).

You still get two States within a few to what, maybe a 5 hour drive? I'm sorry NH and CT don't get a State with the same prizes as California, Oregon and Washington's 100-200+ player States. I don't really have any issue with Regionals being 2 days, but I don't have too much of a problem with it being one day either. You guys had it made last year, now you get a taste of how it is.

How can one justify granting a SC to a State with only 23 registered POP IDs in all age groups combined?

And then you have places like Oregon (129), Washington (135), Colorado (135), Texas (219), and California (342).

EDIT: Deleware has only 8 registered POP IDs. 4 Masters, 3 Seniors, 1 Junior.

Well, NH and CT could have a States if POP allowed other TO's to run Premier events such as States this year. I would guess that many areas of the country will have TO's and staff that cannot be everywhere at the same time, and others may need to step up to the plate.

I knew that that this would be the next issue you'd whine about, just didn't think it would be so soon.

And you've both missed the point - this does not promote OP. Those 23 CTers? In OP due to events held in CT like States. Tough to get people to join OP when this discourages play!

So what now there has to be a certain number of POPers in a state in order to have a state?

Events are held in those areas as a means to increase awareness of OP.

True but kind of a turn out will those events have? If NH & MA is held on the same day? Or NH & RI on the same day? As pointed out, not all states have 100+ POPers and "deserve" a SC.

Way to go GL mo and Bjj, you see to do as Pop would like we have to stretch our judging staff thin. not disgustingly thin but thin none the less. And due to crowd drawing power CT and NH will almost be forgotten to large tournys in the area. i still belive that the Dating for the Tourns should be made by the Pto/ To and based on what his staff will allow. How cares about our ( NE's) ability to travel we still only managed to squeze one player into Worlds ( gino) by rating so is there that much of a diffrence? what about other states that are smaller that weren't pointed out? i think its just those lafonte players drinking there own grape juice

(edit 1)aslo you 100-200 toruny people is your tournys not worth more with more rounds? how is that fair? so maybe a round cap and a top cut cap

Whining? LOL. You're the one whining, this time.

I'm sorry you have a problem with me sticking up for my State and Area, because I don't have a problem with you sticking up for yours, but I don't know how you can expect me to NOT respond to that.

I think you're missing the point here: Your players had the opportunity to go to 4 States and 2 Regionals last year, whether they did it or not, is NOT the point. POP felt it was unfair, and frankly, I agree!

Trying to justify getting more States so you can build up OP in certain areas is a joke. You're giving away State level rating points and State level prizes to a small area and think its justifiable to have the same prizes as a state like California or Oregon? You also give the players in New England a chance to come to some small area and win a 50-70 person States and get the same prizes as someone over here who has to travel 6 hours for States and play in a 200 person tournament.

I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall with you East Coast people, good Lord.

R u serious? Ya we had so many events for the east coast yet I was the only player in the MA to make it from New England. No SR's. 1 JR. Man get your facts straight plz. You guys have more people so what? What happend to you californions at Nationals? You guys had the biggest stack in numbers or so u claim?

Worlds had over 10 US players in every division. Other countries had 1/2 in worlds. Yet we only won the SR. Division. #s dont mean whos the best. Idc how much luck waz in worlds we had the biggest advantage of players. So i guess your philosophy is completely false. Im 1 person and I could smash probably all of California. Just shut it. Do us all a favor.

Please, what is the point of attacking each other?
Is it going to get you more events?
    So cut it out.

INTERESTING FACT: Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States.
Im sorry pop but hes from california. It has the most players. Im from RI we have about 6 in my division. Just to make em sound more stupid.

Scizor, how is running events in areas to grow a player base a bad idea??? Explain to me why a little kid that doesn't go to this site nor follow tournament listings sees a state championship in his local newspaper that's being held in his state in with a trouphy on the line wouldn't go to the event and thus grow the playerbase? Thats like saying that leagues don't build the player base. I'm pretty sure that if we didn't have a league in Rhode Island, we'd probly have only 12 registered people for pop. As it is now, we have a decent sized player base (pretty good considering Rhode Island's population and how unpopular the game is over here). So by PUI cutting these state championships from these areas, its basically killing off any hope of it getting more little kids into the game (which is what its going for, after all. I mean, this is a children's card game...). Now I'm not going to lie and say that every one of those 4 state championships in the NE area had a bunch of new kids at each of them. Most of them had the regular crew, BUT they did have new players at every one of them. So this turn of events could very well halt growth up here.

I seem to have missed it, where is it saying that there won't be State Championships in RI?

Nah pop hes just throwing out an example. Brian Im almost postitive BRs, CCs, SCs, RCs, and PREs will be in newspapers. If not the players of that state all they need to do is contact their local newspaper ahead of time. Im thinking of doing that this season with some of our events.

Just for the record this family of 6 read the newspaper in MA and thats how they found our league in RI. They come weekly and buy a box or more a week and im really good friends with all of them too. So newspaper and media helps alot. So if pop is limiting events. I hope they do lots of advertising.

If there is 1 in RI (and there should be!) and there's 1 in MA (and there should be!) that leaves CT & NH out in the cold (probably). I don't think Mr. Shea will split the team (and the players) to do 2 SCs in 1 day. If he does, attendance will be down (and unlike most PTOs this is how Tom brings home the bacon). He will probably schedule MA states on the opposite day of NY so the NYers can attend and thus not have another SC the same day as MA. Now he could have RI and NH and split the MA players. CTers could come to RI. Loss of the potential new CT players, and lower attendance at both SCs (which some people will complain about). Or just have RI on the opposite day of MA and the loss of potential new NH players.

I am more worried about growing the OP in New England than i am RI States.
(Whatever Mr. Shea, decides is fine with me - i'll be there to support him and make his event the usual TJ's event)

No it isn't. Try looking at the larger picture - OP growth means more players. More players means larger turn out which puts our tourneys into the triple digits. To me, if RI can get 70 (& does!), CA should be pulling something like 500+?

Yeah, you had so many events and you were the only person to get in from all of your inflated ratings, I think that says something. BTW, please show me where I claimed you got more than 1 invite? .... That's what I thought.

How can we have the most numbers at Nationals if it's 2500 miles away? Ask yourself that. How far is it for you? .....That's what I thought.

Basing our performance on one event is just plain foolish.

You could smash all of California? What a joke. Bring it on, buddy. Let's see you play that garbage Machamp vs TRUK's Banette from 2006 10 times, if you win 3 of them I won't ever say another thing.

You want to fight like this? You guys are really showing your class. Here I am coming up with logical suggestions, "complaints" and analysis and you're making it personal.

Well, good job, you've MADE it personal.

Oh, so instead of coming up with a half decent argument you just attack chad's ability to play. What the heck does worlds have to do with this anyway? You've completely invalidated yourself from this discussion because it's obvious you want a flame war. (someone tell me why this post wasn't deleted and punishment handed out?)

We're talking about being fair to all areas of this game. The west coast as been screwed in terms of high profile events because they aren't as accessible. Year after year we've had to take this crap from POP because of our geography. The system can't be any more fair now because east coast players don't have the opportunity to inflate their ratings.

I still don't get how not having your events on different weekends matters. It only rewards players who are geographically near the place where the event takes place. Just because the numbers aren't as high at each individual event shouldn't mean that the total number of overall attendees are affected.

I know for damn sure, you will never top cut a California States/Regional. Its wierd you always run your mouth at the worst times. You wonder why nobody likes you.

Your numbers don't make sense either. Whats new, you just run your mouth without looking at facts and logical theorys.

This is also more than East/West (Sounds like a Rap Thing hahahaha) Its the entire United States. But since you guys wanna start a fight. Bring it :) I just may waste $300 to come to your states.

Alright i guess the champ have to step in here. Gino, you can't just compare your area/east cost to california. We have one of the biggest crowd at states and regional, and trying to win all of the tournament here is like trying to win all the poker tournament at the world series of poker. Trying to compare winning a california event to a RI event is like comparing winning a World Series of Poker event to a home poker game. Truk, I'm pretty sure Gino can make some of the top cut here but I doubt he will make top cut at every single of California event. He might get lucky and win one but I can guaranteed that he wont win every single one. Gino, the only reason you didn't see alot of Californian at Nats is because its across the country and not everyone have the money to spend one a game. I think that California should of more event and also not on the same day because Cali is one of the biggest state and we are getting the same amount of chances as say FL, IL, NY, etc. Either gives Cali more event or cut some of the other states event.

Both sides in the more personal posts make valid points. But getting bogged down in the more personal stuff misses the point. Misses the valid points made by both sides.

IDK either. Always plusses and minuses to any decision.
