Trainer and Effect: Trick Coin and Confusion

If my active Pokemon is confused and it has the trick coin attached, am I allowed to re-flip for confusion in the event my first attempt fails?

If yes, if my attack requires further coin flips (and I have not yet attempted a re-flip for confusion) and I would like to re-flip those, do I also have to re-flip for confusion?

I suspect that the confusion effect is separate from attack-related coin flips for the purposes of trick coin, but a couple players were asking about it this weekend and I'd like to be sure. Thanks!

Q. Can I use Victini's "Victory Star" ability to reflip for a failed Confusion check?
A. No, Victory Star only applies to flips that are done as part of the attack. You cannot use it for checking status effects. (Noble Victories FAQ; Nov 17, 2011 PUI Rules Team)
