Emboar has been requested for a review by Member JewelQuest.

The Blaze'n Bacon of the starter Pokémon line up, this 5th generation Pokémon shares the same typing as it's predecessors Blaziken and Infernape. Is there anything about this Pokémon that will make it stand out above the rest of the Fire starter Pokémon and be battle worthy to the competition scene?

Let's take a look in to its base stats and see where to start for building a sizzling fighter that can earn you some wins:

Base Stats:

Hit Point:
110 max stat total: 424
Attack: 123 max stat total: 379
Defense: 65 max stat total: 251
Special Attack: 100 max stat total: 328
special defense: 65 max stat total: 251
Speed: 65 max stat total: 251

There are a lot of bacon eaters out there, and this Pokémon needs to be able to stand up to the heat in the competition. With it's Hit Points being the highest stat and it's Attack stat being second in line- what can this Pokémon do to make end's meat in a battle?

Emboar is slow, and it's Defense and Special Defense's are on the low side of things. It can pack a mean punch though with an above average Attack stat. Sort of like bacon in real life: Slow cooked, easy to eat because it is frail, yet packs an awesome flavor of punch to the taste buds! Ok, OK, sorry for that- but it's Bacon!

Over coming the slowness and rather dismal defenses, Emboar still can be built to make it's trainer rather happy and have the trainer not resort to having it with a side of exeggcutes for breakfast.

Here is what will make the best use of what Emboar does have to offer:

Single Battle Build:

Nature: Jolly

Ability: Blaze - This will boost any Fire type attack by 50% more power when Emboar's Hit Points drops below the 1/3 mark.

Held Item: Choice Scarf - This adds 50% more Speed into Emboar's Speed stat.

Individual Value: (IV): 31 in Attack, 31 in Speed

Effort Value Investment: (EV) 252 into Attack, 252 into Speed, and 4 into your choice.

Move Set:

Flare Blitz: This attack hits for Stab. And even more Stab when Emboar's Hit Points are at 1/3 or below. This will hit most Pokémon pretty hard, and it is one of the best attacks in the Fire move pool that Emboar has the right to make the best use in battles. This attack does have a 10% chance of causing the Burn status infliction upon contact to the opposing Pokémon in battle. Flare Blitz does have a 1/3 re-coil damage to Emboar's own Hit Points.

Superpower: This attack also receives the Stab bonus, but has the draw back of causing Emboar's Attack stat and Defense stat to be lowered by 1 stage after use. This attack does pack a big punch in dealing massive damage though, being one of the highest base powered Fighting attacks being 120 and gaining the Stab boost with Emboar's second type.

Wild Charge: An Electric type attack that gives Embaor a fighting chance against Water type Pokémon that are certain to ruin Emboar's chance of survival against it's many Water type foes. This attack also has a re-coil effect, taking 1/4 of health from Emboar's Hit Points of the total damage dealt after use.

Head Smash: Even though this attack does not receive a Stab boost, it does have a base power of 150. With an 80% accuracy, this attack does miss at times. Sort of the "trade off" due to the high base power strength. When this attack does hit, it hits hard combined with the invested EV boost in Emboar's attack stat. This attack also has re-coil damage, taking half of the damage given out and reducing Hit Points in return.

Emboar is out run by most commonly used Pokémon in the VGC scene, thus not really selected as a "top tier" competitive battler for Singles. It does have access to a great list of attacks that provide coverage for it's Fire and Fighting type, enabling Emboar to retaliate with hopefully a super effective hit that will either OHKO or just shy of doing so to the opposing Pokémon.

Emboar faces a great amount of threats in battle. Ground, Psychic, Water, and Flying types will be happy to snack on this guy with a side order of eggs and pancakes. It is very important to consider the order in which you send out for your Singles team. Emboar being your first Pokémon out is ideal, as it can be a good scout and be a surprise in the Speed factor with Choice Scarf and attack first and hit hard right away with an attack that can hopefully hit a weak spot.

I am not saying that a Singles build is not worth a look into and consider for your team, but Emboar does a lot better in Double Battles with Trick Room in effect. Partnered up with a fast Pokémon that can support Emboar's weak Defense and Special Defense stats, including a low Speed stat- Emboar stands a higher life span compared to a Single Battles build. If you are interested in utilizing Emboar in Single Battle- be fast as possible, hit hard and with an attack that hits your opponent's weak spots. If scouting-switch Emboar out right away, and use him for a better match up on the field later on.

How have you prefered your Baco...........I mean Emboar to be built?

Finally had a chance to sit down and read this thoroughly, and I thank you for making it! I'm working on building my own Emboar to play with by myself, so I'll post it after I've finished toying around and decided whether or not its working.

BTW, I loved all the bacon jokes. XD
