Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

UK - City Championship Dates 2007/2008 Season

Many thanks to Stef for providing an excellent venue for me to win the Masters City Championship at Blackpool this Monday. I beat Ice_Brakerz in the final 2-0, which I was expecting to lose! Well played to everyone who turned up, especially Michael. That was a tough game! And to Ice_Brakerz, who played a deck with which she was not familiar, and still made it to the final.

Edderz

flipping eck Nigel! Horsham to Blackpool- thats a fair old drive! :O I trust you will still be joining us in Crawley tomorrow :)

Ooh I expect so!

I am working near Blackpool at the moment so the company paid for my flights to Manchester... only an hours drive from there to where I'm working... cool. Stef is doing a good job up there, it's a shame the shop where they were playing before got toasted!

See you tomorrow.

Glad to see Norwich back in the fold :D GO Nigel GO Nigel GO!

Blackpool went on Monday 18th.
6 Juniors, 1 Senior, 9 Masters.
I felt I could have done a better job. I hope the players still enjoyed it.

Sad news...

-------------------------

Crewe City Championship is NOT happening.

This is the Crewe CC listed for 1st March, and I believe several travelling players planned on attending so please spread the news.

Its on their site 131games.co.uk

It should appear as cancelled I believe, but it doesn't. The listing is still live.

Crewe is no longer holding any Pokemon OP. I'm personally pretty devastated, Crewe was the oldest surviving OP location in the whole north with a great enthusiast behind it. Anything can wither without care, and Crewe is no more.

And yes, I'm absolutely certain.

-------------------------

Hull, over on another thread, is also struggling. Its difficult to see the positives from up here in the North.

Crewe (Cheshire) - dead CC RIP
Hull - life support

So the only CC 'happening' North of the M25 are:
Leicester
Blackpool
Manchester
Norwich

While those in the South remain:

Aldershot
Southampton

Brighton & Hove
Normandy
Poole
Rainham
Crawley
Exeter

London
Kent
Upminster

Scotland are yet to confirm any CC participation this year.
Ireland I have no details for.

I strongly suggest these Northern Venues should be given more CCs to reflect this pattern, redress the balance and prevent leagues North of the Thames River from haemorraging like the Hull and Crewe CCs have done this year until UK Pokémon is relaunched in the middle of this year.

Neither Brighton nor Normandy are league locations. Not sure of some of the other south coast sites either.

ps Norwich is also North of the M25

Norwich has no motorways anywhere near it, so I'm not sure its relation to the M25 really matters. "Its a long way", will suffice.

To be fair, when I first spoke to Chris at DNA in January - the overall outlook was very positive. They were apologetic that they had missed us off and seemed genuinely willing to get things resolved in terms of Premier events. We've tried various forms of contact (phone, email, PM) and we're still largely in the dark about whether or not a Hull CC is happening, or indeed any future Premier events for the region.

I've said to Chris from the start - we've got an excellent venue, we're ready and willing to run a CC whenever, we've got good experience under our belts and we have a solid, freindly player base. What's more were enthusiastic about keeping the game alive for people. I forwarded on all my details and we've still heard nothing.

I agree with Stef whole-heartedly with this one; it's very difficult to see positives in the North. As far as we've seen in terms of improvement - nothing's changed. We're certainly not letting this wither and die - we've been running fortnightly tournaments since good old TPFG in an effort to keep numbers up, but I can't see how long it's going to last to be perfectly honest.

Mabye Pokemon UK consider the North a waste of time & resources? Would certainly be ashame if that were the case. :nonono:

Not wishing to moan; just want some resolution to the problem as I'm sure most people are.

My advice would be to speak to Chris again and keep on trying. Failing that contact Pokemon USA and forward on to them any communications. It's always important to make note of verbal agreements and times of conversations for phone calls etc. just in case this type of thing arises.

Ian F - out of curiosity when is Chris eligible for Masters?

Nicholas has two more goes at the UK Seniors title before he joins the big boys.
Christopher has a couple more years in Juniors.

The plan seems to have been for 7 out of 20 CC's north of the M25 - hardly seems that the player base north of the border is getting stiffed?

Remeber it's two in Leicester and Manchester and then Crewe, Blackpool and the planned Scottish CC. I won't count Norwich as they are really not north or midlands - just out in the boonies :D - Sorry you guys in Norfolk but it is true!

If you want to include Norwich that is 8 CC's planned north of the border.. that seemed to be a fair plan..
