Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

UK South East Challenge 28 September 2003

Well I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did.. 60 players all told a record for a South East Challenge.

My thanks to Ian and Ian for providing the screen, projector, game cube and GBA player... My thanks to Iain and Chris for helping out with those manic Deck Building moments when new players show up after 2 rounds with Cards that in no way look like a 60 card deck.... Thanks for helping them get straight enough to play.

Thanks also to all the players who waited whilst we sorted out the late entries and the wrongly dropped players.

7 rounds of Swiss and 8 hours of play later we crowned our winners in each age group and handed out the prize pile.

We made after paying the bills and coughing up for the prizes around £160 odd which will be used for the 5th Challenge to help pay for the venue in advance and to supply prizes from Ebay and to buy Boosters and other goodies.

I know Ian has a stack of Plushies too so it could be the plushie challenge and pick from the table too!

Lets hope we can contnue to roll the money over and get the South East Challenges onto a firm financial footing for the future. You all helped us on our way today...

The plan for the rest of the year from the SE challenge team is to run Crawley on the 6th December as the 5th South East Challenge and then over to Norfolk(ish) way for the 6th SE Challenge.

And to keep us all in tip top fighting trim the Gamers Guild plan to hold an Invitational Only Booster Draft on the 26th October 2003.

Professors and Master Professors are asked to Donate any Gym Challenge or Gym Heroes Booster they have so that we can keep the cost down to £3 per entrant for 6 boosters.

Details will follow..... so watch for the post...

Expect an update to www.southeastchallenge.com this week and I will be posting the photos there too, also don't forget to grab yor copy of Pokemon World where Freddy will be giving us a lowdown on the Big Farewell Tournament in Issue 32 and the 4th SE Challenge in issue 33.. (I hope that is right Freddy?)

60 players all having fun and NO NINTENDO OR PUI Support!

South East Challenges are the UKs premier pokemon events make sure you're there for SE Challenge 5 ... will it be the return of Khan? Or will this non-playing judge finally make #1 in the tourney.... Dec' 6 will tell all....

Ben,

That sounded like a great tournament, and MAD PROPS to you and everyone in the UK for your tireless dedication to this game. Believe me, some of US over on the other side of the lake, are watching and communicating to PUI/Nintendo in securing you folks in the UK and Europe international support and SOON. It WILL HAPPEN! :)

Again, GREAT JOB!!! Your dedication through these times of transition is an inspiration to us all! :)

Take Care,

Skywolf1

I'd just like to say I had a great time, and I was surprised I actually managed to win three matches. I'd like to big-up Matt, Fran and Liz who were particularly fun to battle and talk to.

I noticed a lot of the cards being played were from the Neo sets, so it will be interesting to see what we get at the E-on format. Might be a bit fairer for me, at least (seeing how I've got like litterally 20 Neo cards), haha.

If I had to make one suggestion, it would be handshake lessons. Although most handshakes were plenty vigorous, one or two people I played had handshakes that were like holding a soggy rag... or maybe they just didn't want to touch me, whatever.

It was great that so many people turned up, and I never imagined so many people would be in the 15+ category, that surprised me a little. I congratulate everyone who entered on being such good sports, and the winners truly deserved those great prizes!

Handshake Lessons ... Now that I like Android 17a.. yep some definitely need handshake lessons... Glad ya had a great time and hope you went back home with pockets full of boosters and some good trades done too.

Like I say we hope you make 6th December when we will be doing it all again in Crawley but this time Eon format so maybe a little fairer to you as you say...

So that is EON format all cards from Expedition e-Card Base set Onwards and Ian will confirm the status of promotional cards.

I expect just Best/Winner and Nintendo promos maybe the way he rules?

Saturday December 6th Crawley.

Format: Expedition onwards. Including BEST and Nintendo promos.

Cards must have been available in the UK on or before Friday 28th November to be elligible for play.

Doors open 10am, play to start at 11am.

Tournament will be age modified swiss with no cut. 30 minute rounds with one game per round (NOT MATCH PLAY). As many rounds as we can fit in in the time available. Last round will finish between 5pm and 5:30pm.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring a completed decklist, damage counters, and randomisers. Also for those that need reminding a deck is 60 cards ONLY, and decklists have to be legible and have the players name written so that we can identify who you are.

Sounds good. What are the chances of Dragons being available here by then?

If I might make a suggestion, how about a printable sheet that people can download for decklists? That way they can just fill it in in Microsoft Word, put their name in a box at the top, and just give you a printout when they register in the morning. It would be faster, and a lot easier to read (my handwriting was a bit rushed :))

I've got a copy of the "old" DCI Deck Registration Sheet for Pokemon - email me an I can send it to you as a PDF!

C'mon Ben,you know I've got to be king of the handshakes! ;) For Crawley I've told Ian that if required I'll judge but obviously I'd like to play because I'll have to TO or Head judge at The Carrot Crunchers challenge!

Haha, ah, Sunday was ace, well done everyone.
I think I'm SERIOUSLY gonna try and play more, that was a totally new experience for me.. [insert other random excuses here]

I don't know if I saw you, Android.. But then, didn't know who you were. o_O
Ah well. It was fun, I'm gonna have to try and get to another one in the future (not the one in December though)

Oh well, at least I didn't play you and still not have a clue who you were XD
