Since I'm on staff for Nationals this summer, this was really the last big tournament I had the chance to play in this year. I was really hoping to have the chance to pick up some scholarship money to get me through my last two quarters of college. (Seems like after year 4, they tend to not want to give you anything.) I was going to play Blaziken and Ninetales, but decided to sub in Maggy over Ninetales at the last minute. I managed to get in one practice game with the new deck, and saturday morning arrived.

Game 1- vs. Brandon with Mag/Typhlosion

We had the exact same start with magmar. I get claydol out as soon as I can, and start to build my bench. He gets stuck with only typlosion on his bench, and not able to bring anything up to do much, so I take the game.

1-0

Game 2- vs. Mike Y with PLOX

Great, the first GG of the day. He starts with Cresselia to my Torchic. He brings the Lv. X out turn 2 and starts getting built, but has a severe energy drought. I manage to get maggy X out with a firestarter Blaziken getting my bench built. I burn his gardy, and do 100 to it. The tails flip saved me from the next turn level up. He ran out of steam with energy.

2-0

Game 3-vs. Jim T. with Porygon Z/Furret

This kind of scared me, but after realizing that there wasn't much of a way to get water energies back for him, I started slowly tearing Porygon's apart. He got a few prizes off me, and we went to time. I had one prize left to his two, so I won.

3-0

Game 4 vs. ? with Sceptile/breloom/Hariyama

This was pathetic. I start with a torchic and he has makuhita. I draw and burn him. He takes his turn and hits me for 10. I draw. no supporters. I peck for 10. He arm thrusts for 40. Game. Just for the heck of it. I draw my next 2 cards. Torchic and TVR. I draw the TVR cards. Rare candy, fire, Blaziken. Talk about crappy luck.

3-1

Game 5 Vs. Jaymee and Blissvire

I played against her last year at regionals, and she ripped me apart. I told her I was back to settle the score. :-D. She has a dual skitty start, and I easily get rid of one. She brings out chansey and an elekid soon after, but can't get energy. I begin picking off her bench piece by piece. She got 2 Blissey out total, but I sniped one from the bench after it retreated. She brought Vire. X up to get rid of my stadium, so that was when I took out the Blissey. I'm down to one prize, and she hits for 50 again. I bring up a benched GE blaziken, and take out her benched buzz for game.

4-1

Game 6 Vs. Hooooolon Mike and Plox

I don't like Mike anymore. He's mean. I was ahead for a little while, until he got Alakazam and Dusknoir into play. He warp points my fully charged maggy x back to the bench, and gets rid of it. After that, I couldn't bring anything back to do enough damage.

4-2

Game 7 Vs Eric and T2 Doomsol

He tells me that only reason he made this deck was to counter Banette, but he hadn't seen one the whole day. I start with Magmar, and he has Absol. Every time I drew into something, I could use about half of it, and the rest would be discarded. That's what stinks about drawing all trainers at the beginning. I manage to take out his absol, and one Houndoom before I lose setup. Him baleful winding my Claydol before I could evolve....that really hurt. He made T2 with it, so I was impressed.

4-3

=================
I look at the standings when it's all over and done. 19th. Out of 82 masters. With a deck I had built on the thursday before. I was quite proud of that. After having a pretty bad rookie year, it's nice to see how much I've improved at the game, and how well I did, despite being so close to top 16.

Way to go Heather! We were pulling for you! Dan and I both finished 4-3 as well with rogue decks so we are pretty happy. It was good seeing you guys and I'm glad that you did so well. Isn't it nice to be back in civilization?

Good job Heather, and thanks for letting me borrow the Cressy X for Joey's deck. I'm still amazed you guys ended up right across the hall from us. I'm also glad we playtested the night before as it helped me when I had to face off against that during the tourney. I'll see you at Nats if not before that.
