What is happening with Origins?

I don't know if anyone has checked, but the Origins website is essentially dead.

There have been no updates for things like hotel codes (even though almost all the nearby hotels are certainly already filled).

The Origins web team seems to have dropped the ball.

Not necessarily, I didn't book my hotel room for Origins 08 until late January...

And of course, we may wish to wait for confirmation that's even where US Nationals is.

They usually don't upated anything to late November or early Decemember. They don't start selling badges until the beginning of January.

St Louis is the CENTER OF THE COUNTRY....Fair for all to get there!!!

Great news in my book...been hoping for Nats to move there ALL YEAR :thumb::thumb:

This isn't about driving distances. It's not just the math of which is further for most to drive to. (And the idea of St. Louis being in the center of the country and, therefore, more fair for all to drive to assumes an even distribution of the population across the US which is not true).

But it is about the EVENT.

For people who attended Origins to do nothing other than Pokemon, then this is probably a non-issue.

I, personally, like Origins for the variety of events and Pokemon for me was a single-day activity at Origins.

Like I stated in the "other" thread, this is now an easy decision for me...

Do I attend Origins or do I attend GENCON? US Nationals is not a consideration.

TCG, video game, meeting artists, huge tvs with the anime, coloring activities (nothing like making a bloody pikachu), etc. I can easily see nats having these and other events that will draw huge numbers.

No entry fee, a more "Worlds" like feel, no entry fee,

More inviting to Juniors and Seniors and their parents who are only a part of the Pokemon Community and not the gaming Community.

More opportunity for Pokemon to showcase the event!

Every other game can't be wrong (who is left at Origins?)

Oh, and for those wondering, Magic's Worlds is in Memphis, Tennessee this year, so a major coup for the Mississippi Valley for both of these events.

Many more family friendly attractions around the city, hopefully the Cardinals will be in town, many more choices for both adults and kids all through the city.

Did I mention that our zoo is free?

Come hit St. Louis, enjoy the riverfront (Arch and more), the Zoo, the Science Center, Laclede's Landing, Six Flags, a World Class Botanical Garden, Elite Shopping, restaurants, and all the rest.

Come, have fun.

I'm sure St. Louis is a great city w/ plenty to do. And i have total faith in PUI and their
decisions. The event itself I'm sure will be better with them calling the shots as they just
get better and better with every event they run.

What I will miss is Origins. Not so much the event( some funky smells and people sure do show up)
but the fact that there is literally something to do 24 hours a day. Lots of partying, seeing people
and friends from all over the country at any time of the day, the big bar on 2 ( had some good times
both there and at Barley's), the " cellar " me and my friends found last year ( inside joke, you
know who you are if you get that one ;), the great food w/in walking distance, just the fact that so
many players are in one contained( all be it large) area makes for a great atmosphere.
What can I say? Like so many of you out there, i look forward to this weekend more than
any other Pokemon weekend . My only real time off all summer and I ALWAYS have a great time.

I'm sure there's plenty to do in St. Louis as Vince mentioned above.
But- from my perspective-Columbus sounds a lot more fun than amusement parks, zoos, botanical
gardens and elite( which means expensive) shopping. Maybe the Cardinals will be in town, Steve
and i could kill a night doing that I guess.

I'm sure Nationals will have more of a Pokemon "feel" to it this year.I'm also sure it will be a
stellar event. And the event is why I
go- bottom line!

But I WILL miss the party in Columbus :(

Nothings quite like it.

Origins was amazingly fun..
LARPing and D&Ding and playing Magic The Gathering Wednesday, Thursday,Friday..
i got some player reward points in (whoo for text-less pro mos)

the only bad thing that week was I lost my DS and DIAMOND and
MTG players Rewards Card (they sent me another one) I <3 em for that.

Selling old cards was also a prop.
