Interesting question, who came up with the word "grinder" for the LCQ?

It's not "who is grinder" it's just another word for the LCQ.

Who thought of the word "grinder"?

It's a great word for the event. The LCQ chews you up and spits you out, just like a grinder would do.

if I remember correctly, the last year that WOTC had the TCG. they held they version of WORLDS in SEATTLE - invites only and had a "grinder" the night before the event for those who didn't have an invite.

though, I could be wrong that they named it that exactly??!!

The grinder is called that because it's a meat grinder, the long hours of play with high hopes for everyone is borderline abusive to those who participate, grinding them down if they lose (Which most do).

Actually, its a little known fact that the LCQ (or "grinder") takes its nickname from its creator, Prof. Grinnius Deranium, who coincidentally invented the backwards clock.
  13. Your right about the WOTC tournament being the way it was called Grinder.

The way i think it came about was this:
The last way to get in is to grind a way in. To take one last shot for an invite. Its weird but it works out.
