What's to see in Orlando?

For those who want to get out of Orlando and see the REAL Florida. here are some sites to visit.
www.floridaeco-safaris.com
for the wonderful state parks. www. floridastateparks.org
click on find a park. northeast area has crystal river, homosassa springs rainbow springs
central area has blue springs.
They all clear water at 72 degress year round.
there is also the two mom & pop left attractions. Gatorland (a working gator farm) and wikki wachee springs.
Orlando is nice, but you need to see the rest of the area if time and money allow for this.

snorkeling?

Hi,
My niece from NY is meeting us in Florida. She wants to snorkel. Is there a place near Orlando for that? How about Cocoa Beach? I've looked online, but the best advice comes from a local.

As for Disney--it's always a class act. I'd go if you'd never been before. From my experience, save your money and don't get the hopper pass. Just decide on a park and spend the day there. There is SO much to see and do in each park you really have no time to 'hop'. My husband loves SeaWorld. That's fun too. Bring a hat. The sun is hot.

i have heard rumors of pokemon center merchandise at the EPCOT japan store, via collector's sites i lurk on. can any locals or recent EPCOT visitors deny or confirm this?

thanks :)
'mom

I got some information yesterday that my brother and SIL and their 2 children went from the same hotel we where Pokemon is going to be to Sea World and it cost $50. round trip for the shuttle. It is pretty far out from the hotel. Plus the cost to enter Sea World.

The other local parks, I believe it is a free shuttle ie: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot etc.

I do not believe that these places are within walking distance. You've got to take the shuttle or have some other transportation available.

Downtown Disney is in walking distance from the Hilton where Pokemon is, but I've heard it is a very BUSY street and crossing can be dangerous, so BE CAREFUL!!

when i say disney world i meant magic kingdom, sorry ^^'

just changing the subject for a while... anyone (not minors) up for any nightclub? i'd like to see the nightlife of orlando, and it would be good with some people together

count me in :) I havge a reason to party this is the week of (well the week after) my birthday..

Things to do in Orlando

I've done a little research. Here's what I found:

Orlando has many theme parks so pick some you want to go to. Disney has 4 main parks: $71 for 1 day, buy 2 days for $69.50 each day, $67.67 for 3 days.
1. Magic Kingdom known for its rides, Mickey Mouse.
2. Epcot, with its many lands, futuristic exhibits and some rides like the race cars.
3. Animal Kingdom (the largest park) with real animals and rides.
4. MGM (now Hollywood Land) with some fun rides (tower of terror, the fast roller coaster) and fun shows like Indian Jones and the Muppets 3-D.

There is also
 Cypress Gardens—Florida’s oldest theme park; open 10-7 adults $40, seniors $35 (botanical gardens, rides, water ski shows, water park with slides and such)
 Gator Land; $23 adult, kids $15 (alligator shows, petting zoo, water park, aviary, ride the train thru the marsh). Sounds educational. Site says it’s a half day event but one can stay as long as you want.) Open 9-6. Free parking. Buy discount tickets online.
 Sea World (animal shows, rides) $70 with $10 discounts if you buy online ahead of time. Open 9a-10p. parking $10
 Universal Studios $70 parking $12 (rides, see how movies are made)

Head east 50 miles to the Atlantic Ocean. Cocoa Beach has Cape Canaveral Space Center. Open 9a-7p. $38. I don’t think any shuttles are due to take off or land when we are there. The space center has hands-on stuff to do, meet an astronaut, etc. Cocoa Beach is noted for surfing and boogie boarding. Daytona Beach allows you to drive on the sandy beach with your car.

Head west to the Gulf of Mexico. Manatees come to inland rivers during the winter but I found that they are in Crystal River year round. Crystal River is on the Gulf side, north of Tampa, about 90+ miles from Orlando. There are snorkel boat tours to take, rent a canoe, etc. The water is 72 degrees so I think a wetsuit is necessary.

Florida is hot and muggy in August. Bring a hat and drink lots of water. Have fun!!

hi i just wanted to ask, is $71 for all 4 parks if i want to hop or just 1 park for 1 day.... thanks for the info

Sea World has the new Aquatica water park. I've heard a multitude of good things about it, so if you're looking to spend some time in the sun and enjoy the heat a little bit, bring some sunscreen and hit a water park.

Or if you're driving/renting a car, go east or west for an hour from Orlando and hit a beach.

Being able to hop is an extra charge. This is what I found:

9 Day Ticket $29.78 $25.67
10 Day Ticket $27.00 $23.20

Personally, I wouldn't add the park hopper. The parks are so huge, just pick the ones you want to visit and thoroughly explore that one for that day. You won't run out of things to do at a park in one day. Then visit a second park the next day. If you only have one day, you should pick the one park you want and visit it. The parks aren't that close and hopping will take a bit of time. (that's my opinion.)

Have fun!

For the dads out there, the Orlando / Kiss/ area has some of the best golf courses in the south
within 20-30 minutes of the event. Falcons fire, Orange County National( 08 q-school last stage
was there), Champions Gate( either course), Reunion( if you can get on- AMAZING
place with 4-5 tour quality courses, part if the Ginn Resort), Celebration is great.
Grand Cypress is magic!

As for parks, Sea World is my favorite.

ilikegengar, that is GREAT info. thanks for posting. i know that will help alot of people.

i know now i am going to disneyworld.

thanks!
