Now, I'm sure this question has been asked several times, I know i have seen a thread like this one a couple times. But I do not think I have ever seen the question acctually answered.
So, what I would like to know, is why do we not have the same format as Japan?

I ask this because i was reminicising in the Achetype section of the Deck Help and Stategy fourm and I reread a lot of the articles posted there and thought "Wow, I can imagine how much fun I would be having if i could still use cards like "Giant Stump", "ATM Rock", "Metagross δ", "Crussed Stone", "Magcargo", "Pidgeot", among many others.

We have a much smaller format than Japan. While they can still use cards from packs as old as Firered Leafgreen, we are stuck with just Holon Phantoms and up.
They have a heafty 16 or so sets to choose from and we only have a mere 8.
They double us in Card Pool size, not to mention some of their newer packs have had more cards in them than ours.

I dont think there is a single person who posts here that wouldnt like to have the same format as Japan does.
They have so many more card options and deck choices open to them than we do.
They could still play things like LudiCargo or Flariados if they wanted to, and personaly I would LOVE to have those same options.
Personaly, I never thought I would miss playing against LBS or Mew EX.

I do know that it isnt up to Dav, Pete, or Mike, or anyone else who runs our company here in America.
I do not, however, know who is in charge of that choice.
Is it Japan? If so, why would they want us to have such a diferent format from them?
That honestly wouldnt make a lot of sense to me, especaily considering how they have to reduce their card pool to ours at Worlds, so its more of a hanicap, if you will, towards them.
Pokepop, SDPokemon, or Bulbasnore, you all seem to know quite a lot of who is in charge of what, so would you mind my asking of who is in charge of this and why they made that choice?

I do feel as though since our format changed to the state its currently in it has become much less fun. Back when I was able to use last formats cards I looked forward to playing in any Tournaments, even Battle Roads.
But now with this formats small card pool I wasnt even looking forward to Regionals, even right before the Tounrament. I really couldnt have cared less of how I did at regionals, whether it be 0-6 or 10-0.
At this point I dont even care how I would do in tournaments, I just want our old FUN format back.
Is there any chance at all of ever being able to use my old cards agian in tournaments at all?
Is there anything we could do to change the mind of the higher up that decided to have us loose cards via pack rotations at the end of each year?

I would also like to note that I did not make this thread in any form of "Sour Grape".
I dont usually have a problem with the constant G&G or Magmortar decks at tournaments, (unless its Ian, haha).
And I didnt make this thread to bash any of the Pokemon Officials. I know that many people, including myself, are guilty of bashing the people incharge (to an extent) of how we are allowed to play the game, but I think I've come to realize that the reason I feel so content tworads those incharge is because I (and I'm sure many others) feel like I have been robbed of the amount of fun i could be having playing my favorite card game of all time.
This also wasnt made because I did bad at tournaments or anything like that (quite the contrary) and am upset that I couldnt use my beloved old format.
I made this thread because I am genuenly curious as to why Japan has such a more diverse format than us, thusly leading to having much more fun than us.

Now, if anything sounded sarcastic in this post please disregard that, as I mean everything I have written in the way it has been intended.

Isnt there anything that can be done?

Oh, and if this isnt the right place for this, my appologies. Please feel free to move it if so.

    Thanks for reading!

Because japanese people want to be special. But I think that if we would have the same format as japanese people, pokemon should be a lot more fun and there would be a lot more decks we could play. And if we would have the same format as the japanese, we won't have to buy cards over and over again to have a new deck because we could play longer with the same deck. I will love this if this would happen but I don't think this will happen.

    That was a lengthy read.

I completely concur with what you are saying.
I myself, would love to have those sets back.
Especialy since the DP sets came out, the way of play seemed to have become severely limited in my opinion.
There are to many good combo's with the cards that where out already.
It would also get rid of archtype deck spammers.
I'm bored playing against the many G&G/Magmortar decks.

I always assumed that the main reason for not having the same format as Japan is that because of translation and printing delays we would be forever doomed to a stale copy of Japans environment. Want a winning deck? Just find a top list from a Japanese tournament that ran three months ago. Yeuch!

My guess is that we'll have a worldwide format of PK-on next year, since they received some cards from PK after we did.

Personally I am VERY happy that cards like Blastoise EX and cursed stone aren't in the format anymore. It was also nice to see the holon engine go. I can definitely see where your post is coming from, but even with a couple decks dominating our current format, I'm glad we don't have some of the cards in our format that Japan does.

I think POP has come onto these boards a few times and tried to explain the logic of why our format is how it is. One of the main points was that it would be too hard for new players to find cards from a set that was 3 years old, especially if retail outlets like Wal-Mart and K-Mart stopped selling them a long time ago. It would give certain players a huge advantage as their card pool would be much larger to work with and would force anyone who wanted to be competitive to going to eBay to get their cards.

The format how it is now is made to work best with how the USA is in terms of selling products and their overall stance on how things work. I'm sure if card stores were a more prominent part in our society and were seen as more than just a "hobby" store, we might could see a different format, but a format like Japan's just wouldn't be logical for the USA.

Also, from what I've read from Tego and other people's posts on this forum, it doesn't seem like Japan has a single format like the USA does. When DP1 came out in Japan, I remember Tego posting that some places were holding tournaments in a DP-on format while some were still doing the regular format.

The game evolves every year. Sure, I'd love to play some old cards, as would everyone else, but the game to keep changing so to keep people interested and it helps with certain problems that games like Yu-gi-oh encounter. If we had a good 5 years of sets, we would encounter combos that would be absolutely broken, and it would probably lead to a ban list just like Yu-gi-oh has.

Which is the better evil? Smaller formats or ban lists?

But Japan has a FRLG-On format and doesn't seem to have that ban list problem now do they Prime? In fact, the shout for a ban of specific cards (Hello Gardevoir) seems to be much louder over here in our smaller format.

Do Japanese players get to play FRLG-On at worlds?
Because that would give them a huge advantage,
I really would love to have a format like Japan:frown:
Oh well, I'll just use what we have.

If they decided to go about changing our format like that, it would really take a long time to get things in a normal state. They would have to increase production of sets that they have already stopped printing here. I think a lot of us wish that, and I wish it could happen, but it's not something that would be able to be done all of a sudden. It would take time.

In my opinion it is unfair on both the side of Japan and the U.S.

We barely get any promos they do and our format is much smaller.

They on the other hand have to plan for our format at worlds while they may have been playing LBS all year.

    Things like that.

Why do the cards have to be released in Japan then everywhere else?

Why can't there be some form of communication so they are developed together and are released all at once everywhere?

All of this thread is making us sound hard done by, but think about it. How would you like having to change decks for events?

Meh. I want DRE out of the game next season, heh. It give evo's an unfair advantage over Basics, since the game is speedy these days anyway.

Have you noticed the recent spate of mistranslations lately?

The main problem we have right now is the format has not provided the same sort of restrictions on LV. Xes that we saw on EXes. So far, there is one Pokemon with a safeguardesque ability. It's not the cards that are broken-it's the mechanic.

Rewriting DRE to have the same exclusions for level Xs as EXes would definitely even things up a bit.

They wouldn't go back and print old sets.
    That's not how it works.
They only print the last one or two sets and that's it.

Well now I understand why they dont do it now, but why did they start doing it in the first place?

I would even be happy if they made some kind of other format kind of like unlimited, but the same as Japans and it was more recognized than unlimited currently is.
Not their main focus, but a nice thing on the side with some prize support, or rankings if they wanted.
Then, maybe someday, that could turn into the overall format and become the one that is used in Premier events.
