Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Why is Kingdra such an awaited card?

I have a list that can consistently dump 2-6 cards from my hand per turn BEFORE I attack.... so don't doubt the ability to do 60 for 0 or more pretty easily if I sit down across from you.

This is what I don't get. If you can dump energy so easily, why not play Infernape lv.X and do the 150's for 8 energy? Dump 6 energy to do 60 damage or dump 8 and do 150.

Also, I would love to hear how you dump 6 energy before you attack. I can see Felicity's Drawing (dumping 2), Lunatone (dumping 1), maybe even another Lunatone or Bronzong (dumping 1). There might be extra ways of doing this with the cards right now, but Kingdra won't be played in Premier Tournaments until after the format is DP-on. So, part of me is calling shenanigans on this thought until it's explained. Even if you can dump 6 energy from your hand, it will require you to have a full bench of Pokemon with Poke-Powers to dump it. Along with Claydol, the deck will be more susceptible to Dusknoir/Omastar than ever before.

Why not play Ape? Its all in the type.

A good Kingdra deck will outspeed a non-DRE Plox any time, I don't see any reason to worry. Plox may still be a good deck and able to beat some other metagame decks, but Kingdra isn't one of them.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Regice (dumping 2, destroying starts and getting rid of any anti-Kingdra-Mr-Mime-techs and maybe Alakazam (not tested yet, but could be nice).

Sure, you can discard 2 water with Regice, but unless their active is a basic (which won't be after the first few turns), you won't get an effect with it. Alakazam? So your setting up a whole slew of stage 2's and stage 1's and basics just to discard 6 energy, just to do 60 the same turn or 120 the next? Wow, totally doesn't seem worth it.

Kingdra takes 0 energy to use its attack, whereas Infernape takes two, and is a Lv X so that makes it a bit harder to use.
It also doesn't need as much support as Infernape would, and it isn't weak to Empoleon, which I am sure will continue to see play after rotation.

You won't get any effect with Lunatone, either.

Not only for discarding. Alakazam is a powerful card, but guess why nobody is playing it right now (except for its crappy stats and the fact that Stage 2 that don't attack or support aren't very popular)? Most of the decks can't effort to discard 2 cards every turn in order to stop the opponent in using powers. Even with Claydol recovery, the cards could be missed later if you discard some repeatedly. So the only time Power Cancel is worth using right now is to stop vital powers (Togekiss, single Claydol in case opponent has only 1 card left on hand etc) or to save you against destructive powers (Omastar, Dusknoir).

With Kingdra, a pool of 17-19 water energy in your deck and Claydol for hand recovery, you can use Power Cancel every turn, disrupting you opponent in setup in a way that can only be topped by Plox. It still takes some ressources to pull up Alazam, but Kingdra can take full benefit of Power Cancel in more than one way.

Regice doesn't seem like a good idea.
Start with him and, unless you've got a wp, you can scoop as well^^

Wasting 4 Turns in a T2 Deck ?
If you're opponent gets a good start you can scoop imo xD Exspecially if he uses empoleon

Warp Point much?
Heck, just attach energy and use its bad attack until it gets koed and then theres a good few energies in your discard for Kingdra to take advantage of.

I think the card will be good because it doesn't require much energy. With DRE,SCRAMBLE gone, this card sticks out. I think it is alright but, I am a Kingdra fan so beware of my Kingdra deck:p

I think kingdra is so over hyped, every other deck at BR's is going to be teched against it.

Somehow I don't see AMU consitently beating a lot of decks in the next format. But even anyways plox will not be played as much and if it is I don't have to worry about it.

The Sad Tale of AMU: A Prediction of the Future

"Once upon a time, in Japan, there was a deck called AMU. It consisted of at least 6 Lv. X cards, and was very expensive. It saw a great deal of play in Japan, and was winning a lot of tournaments.
However, one day another set came out, creating better decks and making AMU unplayable. Many AMU players cried that they had spent hundreds of dollars getting a deck they could not even use anymore.

THE END."

That is what is going to happen. DON'T play an expensive deck early in the format, it'll get knocked out of format by newer decks as sets come out mid-season.

I see more consolance in Kingdra.

It'll be awesome, and, more than likely, the BRs dominator of next autumn, considering the rotation of DRE's and Scrambles will hurt G&G.

Good luck with that. It's not going to be easy to tech against Kingdra.

Well I guess its a good thing that I traded for all the cards I need for the deck. Next format will be nothing like this one and will have a HUGE ammount of playable decks. I seroiusly doubt that AMU will get knocked out of the format for a while.

Prime, I like your negative outlook on Kingdra. Did you actually playtest? It seems like you're pulling one awesome show of Theorymon here. I prefer to play Pokemon, thank you very much.
Now, does hitting for 60 and a 20 snipe early game seem bad to you? No. If you get the Upstream once, you're in great shape, because you'll get to maul with Claydol-Alakazam-Felicity-Kingdra to discard insane amounts of energy, pulling an Upstream for an OHKO every few turns.
Also, you only need ONE energy in play. Every turn I retreat my active Kingdra to ditch ANOTHER energy. The only point at which the discarding can get a bit iffy is near mid-game, before your first Upstream. Otherwise you're in great shape though.
The fact that it can 2HKO 130 HP beasts by sniping a bit beforehand makes it that much better. You can't safely build up against Kingdra. You just can't.

Also Pika, I still wonder how you're gonna get past Mewtwo X with your AMU.

WHAT?!?!?!?! Anything with weakness can be teched against.

Lake Boundary + Pretty much any electric type??

Easy Tech to me. Kingdra will lose its crown when raichu Lv. X comes out.

Okay yeah you get a kill. I bring up a new kingdra and kill your tech and continue to kill everything else.

How does kingdra kill there tech? Not very easy for something that doesn't do much damage. Luxray's going to maul it.

:::puts on shades::: :::grabs his trusty jolteon and says" we can beat that pesky card no problem with the help of your friend espeon and my friend lake boundary theres no way we can lose":::
