Worlds hashtagging

For those of you who don't know, a good number of players and staff used hashtagging as a form of news broadcasting during the U.S. Nationals, and I was hoping we could do it again at World's, and maybe make a tradition of it.

I went through most of this in the Nationals thread linked above, but I'll relay some info here for those who are unfamiliar...

What is hashtagging? Hashtagging is a way to make your Tweets about a certain subject more easily searchable within Twitter. Essentially, we can have a million people tweeting from Worlds, saying "omg kenny wisdom just took last place at worlds but darn is he good looking." but there isn't really much of a way to find that information. If you tagged that post above with #pokeworlds09 or something similar, users could go to search.twitter.com, search for "#pokeworlds09" and be able to see not only the tweet above, but any and all tweets pertaining to worlds.

Why hashtagging? The biggest draw is that tweeting can be done from any mobile phone with that can send text messages. I imagine that a lot of the time players, judges, and anyone else involved may not have time to sit down at a laptop and write something on the Gym, but it would be quite easy to send a quick text that says "currently 2-0 at worlds woohoo #pokeworlds09". It's not a substitute for the full reports and updates that we'll get here, but it's a quicker, faster way to get that information out.

How can I do this? First of all you're going to need to register a Twitter account at www.twitter.com. From there, if you have a smartphone, I'd highly recommend downloading the TweetDeck app (also available for PCs) as it is the best way to experience Twitter, and it can save you time. If you have a regular, texting-enabled phone, you're going to want to enable Twitter updates via text, which is simple and can be done from your Twitter homepage. Then, just remember to send out updates at Worlds with the tag #pokeworlds09" and you're all set. You're probably also going to want to share your twitter username in this thread

How can I find hashtagged tweets? If you're not attending Worlds, you can read all of this information by heading to search.twitter.com[/url] and searching for #pokeworlds09. The site has a semi-automatic refresh process, and is easy to navigate. You'll be able to find all the tweets that include that tag on one simple page. If you decide that you want to read non-Worlds updates from some of the twitter users, you can create your own account and follow them, which will make all of their tweets appear in a feed on your Twitter homepage.

So what does everyone think? I'd love for this to be a success, as I think it's a simple and concise way to take advantage of social networking for our community.

If you'd like to know more or are confused, please let me know and I'll try and reply in this thread.

If you're going to participate, please let everybody in this thread know of your Twitter username. Although I won't be at the event, I'll be posting updates about what I hear and such. You can follow me at @kwisdumb

Thanks for reading, and I hope that you'll choose to participate!

I'll sign up for a twitter account and post my username.page of after I'm done. After the lack of news about Nats, I think it;d be nice to have a readily available, and easily accessable news source, nice idea

My account:

I'll post updates when the time comes, I'll be playing in the grinder event and post the top 10 or so after every round if possible

@Midnyte Awesome!

I really hope some more people jump onto this, we had a good bit of people do it at Nats.

Trying not to let this fall too far, but I'm also not trying to spam.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I'd like this to be an even bigger success than it was at Nats.

@Plaidlesspez: Thanks!

Remember, if you have any questions about this stuff, please let me know! Anyone who is thinking of doing this but is confused or isn't sure about something, I'm sure I can help you out. I want to spread this as far as possible.

My friend will be tweeting about whatever info I pass along to her from the floor on Friday.
