Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds TCG LCQ Question

They are 40 min rds. Keep in mind, due to the internat'l flavor of the event, there will be time extentions when interpretors are used to explain rulings. I'd wager about 1 hr or slightly longer from start rd to start of next rd.

The event will run like any other tourney excpet w/o a topcut.

is this with or without the fire alarm being pulled added? lol.

I remember last year going to the hall before 8 and leaving after 12 . Thats only if your in a position to grind in though I guess. As soon as they announce however many people are grinding in you could just find out what record you need to potentially make it and if you miss just drop . Should be shorter in Hawaii but I would still expect at least 10 hours though if you include waiting in line.

I don't get why ANYONE would ever fly all the way to Hawaii and drop. I dont care if I dont even win a game I am going to complete my Grinder experiance. Its a once a year chance to compete in a tournement against players you never get to compete against normally. Itrs nice to play a game where you do not know what is in your opponets deck and they dont know what is is your either. I only got to comete against one non-american last year. A guy from Frnace playing the Promo Porygon Z with Porygon Z X. You never know what you will face in the Grinder so stay at it until it is complete.
My gronder record is 5-4, 6-2, 4-4 and 3-5 and I have had fun at each and every one.

What I REALLY do not understand is players that drop from Worlds. So you Start out 0-3 and yes you will not move on to the 2nd day, YOU ARE PLAYING IN WORLDS. You are competing against the very best players of this game from across the globe. You dont drop, you finish the tournement. Last time Worlds was in Hawaii, a kid from Canada grinded into Masters by donking 1st turn in 5 of his games with Riolu DP and flipping heads on Holon Castforms. Now the next day he starts out 0-3 and drops in worlds. Talk about no sense of appreciation.

ya for sure, im not even sure im gonna be able to go to worlds this year(money issues) but if i did go, i would not drop until the end. ITS WORLDS!!!! Plus u get to play agains tthe best people in the world

I don't think it's he wants to drop so much as wants to play in whatever event he has the best chance in (TCG or VGC), if he's doing poorly in the TCG (assuming it starts earlier), he'll probably drop and go to the VGC event.

Po-Po-Pocchama's got it on the dot, just the other way around. Since VGC is single elimination, it's very fast paced and ends in 2 hours or so. If I get knocked out early, I plan to play in TCG.

Thanks for your answers!

(By the way, I have no intentions whatsoever to drop if I do play the TCG.)

If I were to play in Worlds, and I know I'm not making it to the next day, I'll probably drop and check out the side events. At least *TRY* and get some bang for my (proverbial) buck. Either that, or volunteer at something. IDK. Depends on what I feel like day-of.

If I do bad, I rather hang out with friends and get some great trades/purchases from other players, mainly the japanese. :3

after a noob appearence in 07, and a poor man appearence in 08, i will be FULLY prepared to raid the japanese this year =D

Also, another question:

What was the record of the lowest grinding Senior in 08 and 09?

to be safe dont have any more then 2 losses. A few 3 loss players may get in but I would not count on it. Masters can't have more then 1 loss. Last time it was in Hawaii I went 6-2 and missed grinding in by 5 places.

Hey Aaron. The record of the lowest grinding Senior in 2008 was a kid from Malaysia, Malik Hisyam. I believe he went 0-2, then 6-2 and finished 22nd, which is also the last spot into Worlds.

Wait a minute, THAT'S ME. :D

Two 6-2's in Hawaii made it last time. Originally it was only going to be one, but they gave Liz R. an invite the next morning when they figured out they had only 63 players and had an extra spot. If you go 6-2 you need one heck of a resistance or else you won't be making it in. Try to go X-1 as JandPDS stated. :thumb:

2008 in Orlando
JR: 117players, 21 spots
SR: 157 players, 21 spots
MA: 374 players, 2 flights, 6 spots from each flight - 12 total.

In Hawaii in 2007 there were
JR: 54 players & 13 spots
SR: 64 players & 11 spots
MA: 141 players & 5 spots

In Anaheim in 2006 there were
10 and Under: 95 players & 16 spots
11-14: 124 players & 8 spots
15+: 293 players & 8 spots

Note that in 2007, the World Championships consisted of 64 players in each age group. In all other years, there were approximately 128 players in each age group.

Just want to add that they did allow a 6th master to grind in in Hawaii in 2007 Due to a Senior player reigstering as a master by mistake.
