Would Machamp/Gengar/Etc. still be played as much if they were EX.

As the title says. Some of the big deck of the format are Beedrill, Machamp, Gengar, and the likes. Do you think they would still be as popular if they were EX types instead of normal? LMK what your opinion is.

MODS - If this is the wrong forum, please move it to the correct one. Thanks!

Since EX cards use up 2 prize cards, they certainly wouldn't be as popular. But I think Gengar would still be popular, and the rest as well - just not as much.

Of course they would. Nothing ever stopped up from playing ex cards DURING the ex series, they would be played now, but played in a different fashion where you have to plan you move out carefully. The difference is that I could run 3 gengar, and 2 gengar ex or 3 machamp ex and 2 machamp. So in theroy, making them ex would only make them better.

lol, it would kill Gengar. A 110 HP Stage 2 EX?

Even with Fainting Spell, you would give up 2 prizes for 1.

(I'm assuming you mean that the card would be the same, only an EX)

prolly not b/c it would give the X2 weakness to two different typs of pokemon making them vulnerable to any and everything.

I think Machamp would because it is all about donking anyways 2 prizes for 1 on a feinting spell flip wouldn't be worth it

It depends on the Beedrill if you mean the attacking one then no, if you mean the RR support one then yes it would be played.

Um... no, DEFINITELY not.
You can't say "Well, Ex's were playable then so they should be playable now," because now things have changed. We have normal Stage 2's that are just as strong or stronger than Ex cards. The 2 prize thing would be unplayable.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Well of COURSE if they made Ex versions alongside normal versions it would be better, but I read the opening thread as if they ONLY had ex versions.

Yeah, that's totally true. The average Chansey is now better than Chansey EX, etc. The majority of Stage 2 cards are much better than the first EX cards and may be better than the least old ones.

Those decks thrive on the favorable exchange rates they pull, in terms of KOs. Unless the EX Status hyped up the power, which would be kind of funky, no.
