View Full Version : What decks do you think will win City's

Professor Elm
09/17/2004, 07:40 PM
I know it's kind of early but what does everybody think the best decks that will do well in Citys

Exploud Insanity of course! LOL :)
Anything with Blasty
Lightning Counter Blasties
Blazitrode
Monarchy (Nido's)
Rambo possibly (in 10 and under)
Team Magma (doubt it but it's possible)

JediDrew

exploud is awful
blasty is awful
blazitrode is awful

good stuff
blaziken
monarchy

Professor Elm
09/17/2004, 07:51 PM
I disagree about Blasty and Blazitrode, they have much potential. I was just kidding about Exploud Thats the deck that i play. (Exploud, Gorebyss, Muk ex) and I think that has potential to.

Based on whats out now....

Blastoise will win some cities

Blaziken will still do good

Nidoking/queen will be very good

Gengar ex will probably make some wins

Salamance will most likely take a few also.

The Blazitrode is really not that good I prefer rayquaza and the old stuff as it does so much more damage... it does the same thing as ninetales from EXP sure but that wasn't an EX which is why it was good... sorry but I don't see this deck being that good, yes it has it's advantages but blaz/ray is by far better IMO.

Hmmm.

-Texas will be won by Blaze, Magma, and Monarchy
-Oklahoma will be won by Gengar and Exeguttor
-Missouri will be won by a rogue, most likely
-Illinois will get some rogue, but probably a gengex or monarchy, as well
-Ohio will be won by mainly sally and Monarchy
-California, I don't know. Probably something Gorebyss
-Virginia will probably see Beedrill and Monarchy take some wins
-Washington area, I have no earthly clue, 'cause I haven't heard a thing about what's being played from Monkeyman =p
-Florida, something Blaziken, because they need to dry up all that hurricane water =)

I am playing a raichu,charizard ex deck for city's.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the purpose of this thread, preparation-wise. Training wise, this thread hurts the player more than helps them. I'm sorry if I sound rude, but if people start to make assumptions to which deck will be at which cities, states, world, they will open up a huge hole that people can use to their advantage. For example, Hal "knows" that blaziken won't be in south carolina, so in all his tests, he techs his deck for crobyss, walrein, wailwall, etc, but not blaziken. So when the city/state championships come up, to the surpise of Hal, blazken showed up in good numbers. Not only is Hal's deck teched for other decks, but at the same time Hal has no idea how to use his deck effectively against a Blaziken deck. So in the end, the deck that Hal "knew" was not going to show up, showed up and beat him...or atleast causes him alot of havoc.

Then Hal deserved to lose because he made a fatal mistake. If you metagame correctly it can be a huge advantage. If someone does not metagame properly like Hal they will be in trouble. If you don't know the metagame then play it safe preparing for anything. Otherwise this thread is really only telling us what are the good decks right now pre-TRR which Cities won't even be, so if you just want to prepare for cities don't get anything set until Team Rocket returns.

The big decks in Wisconsin are....
-Walrein
-Team Magma
-Sceptile
-Metagross
-Gardevoir
-Blaziken

There are also quite a few extreme rogue's thrown in as well.
I'm guessing that most of Wisconsin's CC's and ones surrounding it will look something like this...
10 Under: Ampharos or Blaziken
11 to 14: Team Magma or Gardevoir
15 up: Metagross, Walrein, or Sceptile

Of course, those are just guesses from looking at the current metagame.

Also, from what I am aware, there will be 3 City Championships in Wisconsin (Brookfield, Manitowoc, and La Crosse). Brookfield will head to most of those and Niles, IL. We got ourselves a team of elites. :p

I've got a deck in the works that was actually inspired by someone I met in my round 2 Match up at worlds. Though I did manage to defeat him I liked the deck Idea so I came up with something along the same theme but quite different.

As far as what I'm expecting? Monarchy definately holding a nice piece of ground so expect that. Blastoise/Quagsire/Aqua's Walerain is making a bit of a showing in this area and seems pretty tough. I'm seeing Dark Electrode as well. Dark Amphy/Amphy EX is something I was toying with for a bit but seems relatively slow moving.

I don't expect much in the way of Gardy or Blaze really but then again I've been wrong before. Just my thoughts for the moment

At our CC in Winter Haven, FL, we saw no Blastoise and no Monarchy (there could have been some at the lower ends of the tables, but I didn't see them).

It does insane Bench damage, so with ATM Rock, they're bound to crush just about any deck.

What about Zapdos ex decks?

So far, all I know is that Levi Canfield, Jacy Sturkie, and Clay Carney are the only guys to have done well with it, to my knowledge. 1st, 3rd, and 3rd isn't too bad. ;x

I've always stuck with the idea that Blaziken was going to be the best deck in RS-on, even after people said the loss of Oracle would kill it. It packs too much of a OHKO presence to go down easily, and with the kind of setups it can achieve (on a good day), it will win.

In this uncertain format, what with Blaziken, Monarchy, Blastoise, Beedrill, Zapdos, Dark Draggy, and many other competitive decks, Blaziken, which can adapt to any environment well, due to good type coverage and a hugely gamebreaking power (no matter how overshadowed it becomes, it IS STILL gamebreaking), is bound to do well.

Against Magma decks at Worlds, Blaziken was able to get as far as it got solely because of this lack of dependence on one particular card for the deck to function. Blaziken is the card that makes the deck work, but once the beast is setup, the deck isn't too dependant on any one card to keep going and so it can hits and give 'em back out with equal or greater power.

Blaziken may not be the "best" deck in this format, that's up for you to decide, but it's the deck that's winning a heck of a lot. Monarchy, Zapdos, they're good and they win, but Blaziken still emerges the strongest as it did in Eon and as it will continue to do for quite some time.

Mmmm, Well Wooper, interesting thoughts on Blaze.

As I'm doing my analysis of winning decks of CC's so far, I notice this trend:

10- has gotten smarter about what it runs. Either by going with creative rogues, or top tier archetypes, they now seem to know what to play. Although almost always the weakest in skill, it's looking like they're choice of decks is greater. The players who succeed here just really need to be able to work well with their decks, and run a solid list.

11-14 is outdated. What I see winning in this division is blaze (4/6 cc's won by it from my results so far are in the 11-14), swampert, crobyss, Gardevoir, etc, etc. All the big stuff played last format. Granted, there are a couple creative minds like Pokemonfan123123 and JasonthePwnda able to win with more ingenious stuff, but through and through, the players who will succeed here are the ones ready to make change.

15+ Ahhhh, yes, THIS division XD! I believe that Wooper's analysis about blaze winning a bunch is a tad off in the older crew. Although a rogue hasn't been shown to achieve victory in those 9 cc's yet, it's still very possible that creativity could win out *coughcoughJUMPLUFF/MEWTWO/GOREBYSS ^_^*. Zapdos, Blaze, Magma, Monarchy, Dark Drag, and Blastoise are all making a very even showing, and even in uncertain times, people won't be running to blaze always. Although I'm worried about Salamence ex, for the time being, we have a lot of balance, and the successful older player is the one who knows his or her metagame well.

I recall you saying Blaziken was dead with your Walreign deck but meh :p

Blaziken is doing well, and yeah it's a really good deck, but faster decks should outspeed it, because with the loss of oracle, it's gotten MUCH slower. yes it cna still OHKO and all, but it is definately FAR behind its Eon counterpart, and there are other faster and better decks IMO.

Obviously Charizard ex will win every single CC.

I mean, what can withstand 200 damage?!

I'm seeing alot of decks with gorebyss in them. Why not play huntail? Everyone seems to be playing dark pokemon in their deck.

Loss of Orcale ha it is called Pidgot and it isn't that slow if you Consider a turn 3 or 4 set up slow with Blaze you are crazy. (It may not be the fastest deck but it packs enough power to back that up)

A wailord ex with Buffer Piece.

Actually it wouldn't survive. Charizard EX ignores Weakness Resistance Powers bodies and Any other effects on the defending pokemon.

Im playing Grumpig/Gorbyss, Team Magmas Rhydon/Lanturn and Machamp/Togetic at all the Cities as they are the best decks in the format, I mean NO decks can beat them.

Grumpig/Gorbyss does beat everything tho, and I DO plan on playing it over the other two.

I'm had another CC today in California. It was crazy! I may or may not write my deck report this time, but the metagame is again very strong and very balanced. There were 60-66 players today total.

This is what I saw:
7 Blaze
4 Blastoise ex
6 Magma
2 Dark T-Tar
1 Zapdos
1 Monarchy
6 Dark Dragonite/Dark Electrode

This doesn't resmeble everybody, but it resembles most of the age 15+ group, and some of the 11-14 group. Most, if not all, people from San Diego show up because in the El Segundo CC, they double the prizes if more than 35 players show up.

As for myself, I went 3-2 in a 5-round Swiss with my Blaze deck. It's similar to the one I've used in the Fountain Valley CC.

At the Wheatridge CO CC today, here's the approximate breakdown.

1 Mondarchy (ruined by two horrific draws)
1 BLazeatrode (3rd)
1 BlastoiseEX/Mantine (4th)
1 BlastoiseEX/Magneton/Pidgeot/Milotic
1 Shiftry
1 D-Ty (1st)
1 Polywrath-rogue
1 Gardy/mantine/wobby
1 Gardy/Regi/metagross
1 CharEX/GardyEX/R-MewtwoEX-psychotic deck
1 D-trode/D-amphy (2nd)

Well, here's Saint Peter's 11-14 stats:

3 of the top 4 people wore invaders from Saint Louis, me included,

1st Jake Shpringman [Hedgefoxidna] Eggscutor/Magneton/ZapdosEX aka MagnEggz, pretty self explinatory, recycle the nrgs, surprise with Zap, heal with mantine. Decklist is up, and hey it got me all the way. [StL Invader]

2nd Johnny Jr. [?] Gardyvor/ex , the standard Gex deck, pretty good, wobbs included. [StL Invader]

3rd Tim Doty [Togepikachu90] Shedinja/Ninjask/Glalai/Togetic aka Ultimate Annoyer, wow, I faced this guy in semi finals, the hardest match I had all day, this is the most annoying deck you can spawn, some ppl made fun of it, but it pwned all the Dark Decks, and did pretty good against the evo decks. [StL Invader]

4th Mike Hutson [?] Gardi/ex/espeon, again, the standard gardy deck cept with a twist, apperently JJ got luckier and beat him, not too shabby deck at all.

So, the deck breakdowns [for 11-14] are:

1 Eggscutor/Magnton/ZapdosEX [1st]
1 Ultimate Annoyer [3rd]
2 DarkTyrana/DarkHoundoom
1 DarkDragonite/DarkElectode/Trodex
2 Gardyvore [2nd, 4th]
1 Monarchary
1 Salamence, 'i choose who i atk' deck

pretty kool CC, can't wait for StL's...
