Chapter One
A long time ago before the lands of Johto, Kanto, Hoenn, or Orre ever existed, there was a time when war erupted amongst men and Pokémon were set against each other in senseless combat. The evil empire of Aragtok was set on conquering the known world. Already the lands of Olania, Feron, and Ocenia were conquered by Aragtok, even Sia, the palace of the sky, was taken by the black army. Only the land of Koritain was the last free Kingdom.
It is only a matter of time before the known world is plunged into darkness. However hope remains. Light is still present in some distant corners of the world. In the mountains of Layania. A village laid in secret and its inhabitants lived in peace. This is where our story, a Pokémon story, begins.
It was a clear morning. The sun has not yet risen. Hope, a sixteen year old girl with long brown hair, laid in bed asleep and silent. At her bedside a Plusle and a Minun, also slept in their small bed. They were snuggled together to keep warm. Soon a glow came from the eastern mountains. Stars started to disappear and the sky turned ruby red.
The first beams of sunlight shined through Hope’s window. Hope opened her purple eyes upon the warmth she felt on her skin. She raised herself from the bed and her covers plopped on top of Plusle and Minun. Soon they woke to discover they were covered in blankets. As she gave a refreshing yawn, she heard a muffled voice from below.
“Plusle! Plusle!”
“Minun!”
Hope looked down to see her Pokémon covered. She pulled up the covers and Plusle and Minun jumped up on her bed.
“Oops, sorry you two.”
“Plusle.” said with excitement.
“Minun.” Both Pokémon jumped into her arms.
“Okay, okay! Good morning to you too.”
Hope let the two Pokémon down. She went to her closet and started to look for something to wear. She had many farm clothes, and despite there being not many differences in them she still had trouble finding something to fit the day. She looked out the window and saw that it was going to be a beautiful day.
“Hmm, I think I wear my favorite today.” She pulled out a faded blue shirt and brown loose pants along with a firm leather vest and her belt that looked more for a swordsman than a simple farm girl.
Plusle and Minun pulled open the door of her room and ran out. Hope changed and cleaned herself up. She then walked out of her room and quietly slipped down the stairs. She then went outside of her family’s small home and over to the stable, where the family Miltank just woke up to Plusle’s and Minun calls.
“Millllltank!”
“Good Morning Miltank! How are you today?”
“Miltank.” Miltank said with a happy smile.
“That’s great.”
Hope milked Miltank and took the milk pail into the kitchen. She heard some noises from her mother’s bedroom. It was apparent her mother was also up and ready to start the day. She went back outside to fetch water from the well near the road. She slowly lowered the bucket into the well. Soon it plunged into the crisp and clean water. As she pulled up the heavy load, she heard something distant in the forest, bordering the opposite side of the road.
“Who’s there?” Hope called out but no one answered. She soon saw a flash of a shadow race across her sight, startling her and causing her to drop the bucket back into the well.
She paused for a moment longer but soon a call from the kitchen got her to continue to withdraw water from the well. Hope returned to the kitchen to find her mother already starting to cook up some food for breakfast.
“Good morning, Hope. Thank you.” Hope’s mother said.
“Good morning, Mom.” Hope handed the water pail to her mother.”
“Well you are looking special today.”
“Oh, I just felt like wearing my favorite outfit today.” Hope replied.
“Okay, that is fine. I think I will make something special for breakfast.” She then pulled out the basket of fresh bluk berries. “Could you go wake up your brother.”
“Sure Mom.”
Hope walked back up to the stairs and this time walked to her brother’s bedroom door. She knocked on the door. However no one answered the door. She then sighed and knocked on the door again, but this time calling out, “Darek! Come on time to get up!” But there was still no answer. She walked into Darek’s room to see her brother completely covered up in his bed. She nudged at him. “Come on! It is time to get up!”
“Come on, Sis. I don’t feel so good. I need to…” The last few words were not understandable as her ten-year-old brother covered his head into his pillow.
Hope sighed and then whispered into Derek’s pillow, “Mom is making Bluk Berry pancakes.”
Darek jumped straight out of bed when he heard this. “Wow really! Awesome. I love Bluk Berry pancakes!” he said with teary-eyed smile. Darek, in a heartbeat, changed into some clean clothes and started to head down the stairs.
“Darek, I think you forgot something!” Hope called out before Darek made it halfway down the stairs. Darek raced back up and cleaned up his face and hair. Hope nodded in approval and he then jumped down the stairs. Hope shook her head and headed back down the stairs herself.
Breakfast was quick and Darek was told to pack up for school, while Hope got ready to head to town to pick up some things for their mother. Hope’s mother was busily washing the dishes. The hour was growing near and Hope was ready to leave however Darek was still upstairs.
“Come on Darek, you are going to be late!” Hope called out.
“Plusle! Plusle!”
“Minun!”
“I coming already, Sis. Hang on.”
“Did you remember to do your homework, Darek?” Hope’s mother asked.
“Yes Mom!” Darek said and he raced down the stairs.
Hope hugged her mom good-bye while Darek tried to sneak out. However his mom caught him and refused to let me leave without a hug. Both Hope and Darek started their quarter-mile walk to the village of Peacecraft.
“So what have you been learning in school lately?” Hope asked.
“We have been studing about Highpeak City.” Darek replied.
“The capital city?”
“Yeah. I have learned that the city walls are over a thousand years old and no army can break them down.”
“Oh really?”
“Uh huh. There palace where the king lives is also a mile high because the city is built on a mountain.”
“Hmm. That sounds interesting.” Hope said.
“Sister.” Darek said with a heavy voice.
“Yes Darek?”
“Do you think the war is going to come to Koritain?”
“I don’t know.” replied Hope. “I sure wish not.” Hope looked in the sky and some Pidgey flew over them. She then looked to Darek with a smile. “Whatever happens though, we will always be together.”
“Yeah!”
They continued their walk to the village.
Some distance from the village atop from a high cliff, two persons, clad in black, stared down at Peacecraft. They were heavily armed and showed no smile upon their faces. One was a woman with red hair, cut short though. The other was a man, dark grey hair but long fashioned in a pony tail.
“So this is the village of Peacecraft?” the woman said.
“Yes, not a very big place is it?” the man said.
“No it isn’t.”
“It doesn’t matter. We will easily take this village by ourselves.”
“Quite right. Peacecraft won’t be so peaceful much longer.” The woman said with a laugh.
Hope waved good-bye to Darek as he dashed to the school yard. Hope continued to the city center, holding a basket in her left arm. She first stopped at the bakery and got a couple of loafs of bread. She then stopped by the herbal shop and picked up some spices that her mother had been wanting to try. She then went to the market and got some meat and a few vegetables.
As she shopped through the market she noticed several villagers gathered around the village bulletin board. She decided to go to it and see what was new. What she saw did make her happy though. It was a drafting bulletin for the Koritain army. All men capable of service were to report to the city of Torain for military duty. She pulled away and finished off her shopping.
Before she started to leave, she noticed Karen, a friend of hers sitting alone on a bench. She seemed sad, so Hope decided to talk to her.
“Karen?”
“Hope. Oh, how are you?”
“I am good. You?” Hope asked.
“Oh…okay.” Karen said with a discouraging sigh.
“No your not. Tell me, what’s up?”
“My father was drafted. He left this morning for Tortain.”
Hope didn’t know what to say, afraid that anything she said might upset Karen.
“I think I will see him again though.” Karen said.
“Really?”
“Yeah. They are only being called just as a defense for the nation. Just in case the empire tries to attack.”
“But the empire and its conquered nations is oversees right?” Hope asked.
“That’s sort of correct. The nation of Ocenia, their most recent conquered land, is mostly an island chain.”
“Then it they could easily make an offensive against Koritain?”
“I guess. I am not to good with geography though.”
Hope laughed with Karen. “Don’t worry if you really love your father, he will always be with you.”
Karen hugged Hope and said her goodbye. Hope finally set off for home. She took the longer road this time though. She stopped at the village’s cemetery and she walked to a grave with a clean headstone.
“Hi Dad.” Hope said. “How are you? Karen’s father has just been drafted into the army, just like you were. I hope he will be alright. I miss you father.”
A tear came to Hope’s eye. After a few minutes of silent she started to get up but then heard a noise from the forest. This time her curiosity overcame her and she walked to the border of the woods. She heard the usual noices of Taillows and Pidgeys making their chirps in the trees but she also heard something rummaging in the bushes.
She approached the bushes only to find a Sentret hop out and dash deeper into the woods. She chucked at her embrassment being so easily startled and started to get up. However as she turned around she came face to face with a woman dressed in black. She tried to back off but bumped into a man wearing the same colors. Both of them surrounded her looking very angry.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Hope asked but they did not answer.
“You have seen too much. Now die.”
This put a chill up Hope’s spine. She started to feel her heart pump up. She desperately looked for a way out. They blocked her path back onto the road, and even if she was too get back on the road, doing so would be futile because the man was equip with a quiver filled with arrows and a black bow.
The woman then withdrew a straight medium weight blade from her hostler and charged at Hope. Hope evaded the attack only to see the bow, loaded with an arrow, pointed straight at her. She dodged around a tree as the arrowed dislodged from the bow. The tree took the shot and Hope fled into the woods. The two in black followed her however, Hope pace was faster.
“This is getting us no where.”
“Quite right. Let’s use our Pokémon.”
Both of them pulled out golden metal vials from their belts. The pulled off the lids off of each, and in a flash of light a Mightyena and a Crobat appeared. They commanded the two Pokémon to pursue Hope. Hope ran through the woods as fast as she could, not knowing where she was going. She then stopped to look around. She was alone, but unfortunately she was lost. She didn’t know what to do because calling out for help would only risk giving away her position to the two in black.
She sat down to catch her breath. Hope was in tears, not knowing why they were determined to kill her. She soon heard a growl from some nearby bushes. She got up not only what to expect next. Soon the Mightyena blasted through the plants, scaring Hope. She figured that the Pokémon belonged to the two and she ran off. The Mightyena followed in tight pursuit. Hope could not shake the Pokémon off.
She thought things couldn’t get worse, but at that moment the Crobat emerged from the trees and struck her in the head. She cried out in pain and tried to run faster but both Pokémon was catching up. She was getting hit again by the Crobat. Soon the Mightyena tried to lunge at Hope. She tripped and upon her fall to the ground, the earth gave away and she fell into a chasm.
The two Pokémon didn’t follow as the hole was deep and led into darkness. Soon their owners appeared only to discover what had happened. The black man kicked a pebble into the hole and after a while finally heard the impact of the rock hitting the stone at the base.
“No one can survive a fall like that.” the Man said.
“I agree.” the woman replied. “She is as good as gone.”
Both of them called back their Pokémon and walked off.
Deep in the base of the cavern, Hope laid in a soft growth of cavern grass and moss, only inches away from the stones where the pebble landed. She was bleding in her side and out of her mouth, and was lying unconious. Lost from the village and going into the darkness of night.

Chapter Two
Night shined bright in the Village of Peacecraft, the townfolk retired for the day into their homes. Cheerful songs could be heard in the night. Smoke continued their accent into the sky as they emerged from the chimneys of several homes. However one home was not at peace. Hope had not returned and to make matters worse Karen came bringing Hope’s basket which was filled with the items she bought in the village that day.
“Karen, when was the last you seen Hope?” Hope’s mother asked.
“The last I saw her was when she was heading here, but she apparently took the long road by the cemetery.” Karen replied.
“I see. We need to get some help I think.” Darek said.
“Agreed. We should ask help from the mayor.” Hope’s mother replied.
Karen came up saying, “I’ll go do that. You too should wait here I guess.”
“Okay. Please hurry.” Hope’s mother sat back down with a tear in her eye.
“Plusle?” the worried Pokémon asked.
“Oh, don’t worry Plusle.” said Hope’s mother. “I believe she is alright somehow. She is Hope afterall.”
“Minun!”
“Plusle.”
Meanwhile in the chasm where Hope fell after her escape from the two villains dressed in black. A full moon shined bright into the hole. Hope still laid unconscious in the night. Her life was draining away as she lost a lot of her blood from her disastrous fall. Her breathing was labored and continued to bleed.
Upon midnight, a shadow emerged from the depths of the cavern. It wasn’t a human but it was alive. The creature sniffed at Hope and then lifted the limb girl. Hope was guided through a passage completely submerged in darkness. Soon the creature took her into a room illuminated not by moonlight but a light from a pool of clean water that surrounded an alter of sorts.
She was laid down on a smooth surface of marble. Then the water started to shine a bright green and energy from the water worked its way up the smooth inserts of the marble. Patterns and runes formed on the alter and light shined brightly around Hope. Then bright shining figures appeared in mid air. They surrounded Hope. Then they started to speak but it could not be understood which one was speaking for they spoke in a psychic voice.
“It is a human child.”
“She is injured.”
“Must be from the village.”
“She could have been brought here by destiny.”
“We must test her.”
“Test her to see if she is one of the chosen.”
Light amongst the grooves turned while as did the water. Soon Hope started to glow. Light engulfed her and she was once again lifted into the air. Light continued to emanate from Hope. Then the light suddenly vanished and only the green glow from the alter remained.
Hope started to descend to the marble platform. Her wounds were healed and new blood filled her veins. Also her blood-stained clothes has been replaced with new ones. She now wore a white non sleeved shirt and skirt vowen with light blue trim. Silk ribbons wrapped around her waist a holster was equip on one of the ribbons while six sapphire medallions were wrapped around the other. Metal guards decorated with gold runes were wrapped around her shoulders and elbows. At her chest a white and gold seal wrapped around her chest.
“She is the Child of Virtue.”
“As we have forseen.”
“She will bring peace to the lands.”
“Now things are in motion…”
“…that cannot be undone.”
“She is now responcible to the fate of the world.”
“Our kind must help her.”
Breath was restored in Hope. She opened her eyes to see the illuminated figures floating above her. She took a gasp in fear. But they spoke to her.
“Do not be afraid, young one.”
“You are amongst friends.”
“You are one of the many chosen.”
“Chosen?” Hope asked. It was then she realized she was completely healed from her fall. She also realized her clothes were different from her own.
“You were brought into this world for a destiny only you can fulfill.”
“You have the strength to uncover the dark veil that haunts our world.”
“Me?” Hope asked.
“Yes.”
“You have a gift that no other possess.”
“You have happiness…”
“…charity…”
“…and virtue.”
“You are the child of virtue.”
“One of the seven chosen meant to give the world peace.”
“Who are you?” Hope asked.
“We are the guardians of life in this world.”
“We are the gods of the creatures you humans call Pokémon.”
“We have watched over this world and can no longer allow humans and Pokémon be tortured against the evil that comes from the forgotten land.”
“Aragtok.” Hope said.
“Yes.”
“The evil there will doom this world and only you can now stop it.”
“Help us.”
“Why have I been chosen?”
“No one knows why you are the Child of Virtue.”
“Expect that you show more virtue than anyone in the world.”
“You have the power of…”
“…happiness…”
“…charity…”
“…and virtue.”
“You always had this power.”
“You always were the Child of Virtue.”
“I understand.” Hope replied.
“Then travel across your land and seek the legendary Pokémon.”
“The legendary Pokémon?” Hope asked.
“Yes seven of these Pokémon will unlock a power that will undo the terrible things that have happened.”
“Stop the evil.”
“You are the only hope left.”
“I will.”
“Then we shall grant you a gift.”
A bright flash appeared before Hope then when the light cleared a shining steel sword floated into her arms. It was extremely sharp at its edge and was light as a feather. She swung it around a few times almost as if it was natural to her. She never held a sword before, however she felt like memories of practice and combat have been with her as she held the sword. She gave it one last look and then put it into the holster on her belt.
“Use the medallions to find allies in your quest.”
“Allies?” Hope asked as she held on the medallions.
“Their spirit can be captured into them and they can be summoned to battle.”
“Pokémon you mean.”
“Yes that is correct.”
“In fact one of those Pokémon has come to you to help.”
Hope heard a faint voice from the darkness where she was brought in. Soon an Absol appeared before her. She jolted at first, all because she knew that the appearance of an Absol meant disaters and doom was at hand. However she already knew that. She knew then the Absol was here to help.
“Absol will guide you.”
“Absol…” Hope got on her knees and started to pet Absol around the back of its neck.
“Sol.” The Absol said.
“Will you help me?” Hope asked.
“Absol.” the Pokémon said as it nodded.
“Thank you.” She then turned to the gods. “Where must I go first?”
“We do not have that answer.”
“Expect it would do no justice if your family was left behind.”
“You must say your fair wells.”
“For it is unlikely you will return soon.”
“I understand.” Hope replied.
“Fairwell…”
“Child of Virtue.”
“We have put the World in your hands.”
“Now what you chose to do with it is up to you.”
In a heartbeat the gods disappeared and the room was getting dark as the green light was disappearing into the water. Soon only the water was lit just as before. Hope finally took a moment to look around and then sit down to review what had just happened.
“Okay I got chased through the woods, almost died from falling into this place, brought back to life, got a new outfit, sword, and you, and became the Child of Virtue. I guess today can’t get any better?” Hope said with a smile.
“Absol.”
“Well despite my curiosity about this place I guess we will have to get out of here.”
“Sol.” the Pokémon said while nodding.
“Okay. Lets go.”
Hope and Absol walked back to the place where she fell. Hope was surprised when she saw the bloodstains on the ground. She still couldn’t believe she was still alive. She then looked for a way up however it was like a well as there were no foot holds to climb on.
“No good.”
“Absol.”
“What you know another way?”
“Sol.”
Absol led Hope into a new part of the mysterious chamber she was trapped in. The new path led into a great hall. It was illuminated with the same magical water as the alter room was. She was amazed on how beautiful it was decorated and so untouched. However this moment didn’t last as Absol called out. Hope caught up with Absol as they went down a flight of stone stairs. Hope stood on what appeared to be a great seal with the same mark as her’s on her chest. She then saw a large door.
Hope walked up to the door only to discover it was locked by three locks. They also appeared to be needing keys. Hope was stumped.
“Is this the way out.”
“Sol.”
“Then how do we find the keys?”
Absol look to the right of them and Hope saw another pathway leading deeper into the temple. She decided to go down it and Absol quickly followed. Water flowed down the sides of the stairs which continued to illuminate their path. Hope soon entered another chamber this time it was large and open with little light. She saw another doorway leading into another chamber.
“Look the key!” Hope said as she saw the glimpse of light emit from the key.
She started to run for the Key however a figure appeared and blocked her path. It was strange and didn’t seem to form into anything. It seemed to be more like gas than anything expect Hope could see eyes and a mouth.
“Gastly!” the gas cried out.
“Gastly?” Hope asked herself. “Wait, that is a Pokémon.”
The Gastly started to charge Hope. Hope was scared for a moment and then all of a sudden a vision came into her mind. She saw Absol using attacks. She then was filled with the knowledge of what it can do.
“Absol, use your Swift attack.” Hope commanded.
“Absol!” Absol shot of stars of light at Gastly but they just passed through it.
“What it had no effect? Absol use your faint attack.”
Absol submerged itself into the dark shadows of the room. Gastly couldn’t see it. Suddenly the cloaked Absol struck Gastly head on. This time Gastly took the dark energies of the attack. It didn’t like the hit and flew off through a wall.
“We did it!” Hope cried out. “That was great.”
“Absol.” the Pokémon said with a smile.
Hope grabbed the key and started to head out. Another Gastly appeared but Hope and Absol quickly scared it off just like the last one. Soon they found themselves in the main chamber again. Hope inserted the key into the door and turned the lock. While the main door didn’t open, another doorway opposite from the direction they came from did. Hope went through expecting to see the same what she encountered back in the last passage, but it was not to be.
She came across a great chasm. Light was flowing upward like a magical river however there was no bridge to cross. The other key was in a chamber across the gorge. Hope was really stumped this time. She thought about it but when she leaned against the wall to the right of her, she slipped into the gorge.
“Absol!” the Pokémon cried out.
Hope floated back up. She was levitating in mid air because of the mysterious light. She laughed at the sight of Absol’s stunned face.
“Come on Absol it’s great.”
“Absol. Absol.” Absol said as it furiously shook its head no.
“Oh fine. I’ll go get the key.”
Hope quickly flew across and obtained the second key and flew back. Absol was scared to approach the edge any closer. Hope still chuckled at Absol’s cowardice to the gorge, but figured that there are some things that some Pokémon just doesn’t like. She returned to the main chamber and unlocked the second lock. Then instead of another doorway opening, the great seal lit up white and it center opened.
Hope approached the seal cautiously but all of a sudden a new Pokémon flew straight out of the hole. It was black with feather shaped blades on its head and arm. It called out a terrifying taunt.
“Sneasel!”
“Sneasel? I never have seen a Pokémon like this one.”
The Sneasel was poised and ready for battle. Absol was ready too and the two Pokémon charged each other.
“Absol, use Swift.” Hope commanded. Absol shot of streams of stars straight as Sneasel a few hit but the Sneasel seemed unphased.
“Quick Attack.” Absol ran fast to catch up with Sneasel but it looks like Sneasel could run just as fast.
“Use your Faint Attack quickly!” Absol once again jumped into the shadows like before and Sneasel lost track of Absol. Soon a straight-on impact landed on Sneasel. Sneasel got furious and struck back.
“Absol are you okay?”
“Sol!”
“Good keep at it with Quick Attack!” Absol ran faster this time and struck Sneasel hard. Sneasel went flying.
“One more time with Faint Attack!” Absol made a finishing move from below Sneasel. Sneasel was tossed into the pool. Sneasel couldn’t take it anymore and scampered up the stairs to the well where Hope fell.
“Yes! That was a great battle!”
Hope walked to the seal and discovered the chamber was only a compartment where the Sneasel sleeps but there was also the third key and also a scroll. Hope opened and discovered it was a map of the nation of Koritain. Hope tucked the map away and used the third key. The door finally opened into the dark forest.
“It’s nighttime I guess.” Hope said.
“You know, I just realize something.”
“Sol?”
“Mom’s going to kill me.”

Chapter Three
Hope and Absol continued their quick trek through the forest. Absol was mostly leading the way. Hope was exhausted enough as it was from her adventure in the temple where she found her new friend. She was plenty glad enough to get home to get some rest but she was also excited about the new found journey ahead of her. However in return she was sad to be leaving her family and friends. She still didn’t know how to explain it to her mother.
The forest border was starting to come up and Hope got excited. She and Absol raced the rest of the way to the village of Peacecraft. She however could not beat Absol’s natural speed. They popped out of the village onto the road alongside the cemetery, right where Hope had got into the forest in the first place. She noticed that her basket was gone and figured that someone picked it up and returned it home.
“Hmm. Now my mom must be worried sick about me Absol.”
Absol did not answer.
“Absol?” Hope turned to see what Absol was doing.
Absol was stunned at the sight of the village. Hope also gasped in disbelief. Homes started to burn and the villagers were being ambushed. Hope continued to watch as she saw the same two attackers who tried to kill her earlier. They had unleashed all of their Pokémon and was wrecking havoc on the village.
“I’ve got to do something!” Hope said as she started to run down the road. “Absol? You coming?”
“Absol!” the Pokémon said and followed Hope.
It wasn’t long before they were in the middle of the action. She and Absol saw their first target, a Charmeleon using flamethrower on the homes of the village. Absol immeditatly attacked with Swift and Charmeleon took a direct hit. Charmeleon got furious and try to use flamethrower against Absol. However Hope, called out Quick Attack in the nick of time and Absol made a finishing blow on Charmeleon.
“You!” a familiar voice said.
Hope turned around to see the woman in black staring her straight in the face. Her eyes were filled with anger. Soon the man also showed up.
“What!? She is still alive?” the man said.
“Better believe it.” Hope replied.
“No matter. There is no where for you to run now.” the woman said back.
“I am not running this time!” Hope said as she withdrew her sword.
“What on earth? You think you are some sort of heroine now?” the woman said with laughter.
“Do you know who you are dealing with?” asked the man.
“We are the elite and proud soldiers of the empire of Aragtok.” the woman followed.”
“Prepare for a fight!” the man said.
“Or get ready to die.” the woman replied in rhyme.”
“To take this world and all of its possession.”
“To enslave the peoples is our passion.”
“To taint the goodness of true and love.”
“To extend our fists into your defenses above.”
“Shakita!”
“Torano!”
“Team Darkheart win this fight.”
“Surrender now or lose your life.”
“Okay that was embrassing to listen to you. Not to mention that is very crude humor.” Hope replied with a sigh.
“Hey! You do you think you are!” Shakita said. “It took me years to come up with that motto!”
“Doesn’t sound original.”
“Hmm. The motto isn’t what counts it is whether you live long enough to critize us anymore!” Torano said with fury. “Mightyena get them!”
“You too Crobat!”
Both Crobat and Mightyena charged Hope straight on.
“Absol Go! Quick Attack on Mightyena!”
“Absol!” the disaster Pokémon cried out as it charged Mightyena, but first it hit Crobat straight on before moving on to Mightyena. Mightyena also took a direct hit. Both Shakita and Torano were surprised to see the girl with her own Pokémon. However Absol was engaged with Mightyena which left Crobat open to attack Hope.
Hope continued to dodge the Crobat as it tried to use wing attacks and bites. However Hope was now too quick on her feat.
“I don’t want to attack Crobat.” Hope said to herself. “It is just a Pokémon forced to do these things. I don’t want to hurt it. But what am I suppose to do?”
In that instant a Thunderbolt attack came from the west. It struck Crobat straight on knocking it out. Hope was startled from the incident and wondered what Pokémon caused that attack. She then look to the west to see two familiar faces at her side.
“Plusle! Minun! Thank you!”
Plusle and Minun jumped into Hope’s arms thankful she was alright. Hope laughed and cried at the same time.
“It’s okay, I am alright. Hey can you help me? We need to stop the other Pokémon. Look for other types you can fight against okay?”
“Plusle!”
“Minun!” the two Pokémon said in unison. Both scampered off together to take on Torano’s nearby Pidgeotto.
Meanwhile Absol made quick work of Mightyena. It wasn’t long before Mightyena clashed onto the ground. Hope praised Absol for its efforts she then told Absol to take on another of the evil duo’s Pokémon. However while she was distracted, Torano aimed his arrow straight at Hope.
“Hope, watch out!” a voice cried out.
Hope turned to see an arrow coming straight at her. She was right in the path and could move away fast enough, however in that moment another person jumped onto Hope. Knocking both of them to the ground. Hope was stunned trying to figure out what had happened. Soon she saw Karen on top of her.
“Karen!”
“Hope you are alive!” Karen said. “We thought something had happen to you.”
“Argh! Blast you!” cried out Torano.
“No time to explain, Karen.”
“But Hope!”
“Karen just get out of here. These people are deadly and evil!”
“Hope…” Karen said with a whisper.”
“Ahhhhhhh!” cried out an angry voice.
Hope withdrew her sword and turned around to block the overhead cut from the blade of Shakita’s. Hope was somehow easily holding her back from making the attack.
“Karen, just go! Don’t worry about me!”
Karen dashed off without another word. Hope backed off from the standoff against Shakita. She then heard a stretch of a cord in the distance meaning Torano was ready to fire again. Hope charged Shakita straight on while Torano fired. Hope then faked out Shakita and the arrow went into her arm.
“Torano!” cried out Shakita
“Oops.” It was apparent that Torano has no sympathy for his misaim.
“What the heck do you mean ‘oops’?” screamed Shakita.
“Argh!” cried out Hope.
In a quick fury, Hope’s blade destroyed Torano’s bow. She then took away Torano sword quickly dashed to the wounded Shakita and did the same. She then tossed both blades into the fire of a home.
“How dare you!” Torano said.
“You are beaten.” Hope replied.
“Ha, not as long as we have our Pokémon! Pidgeotto get her!”
The bird Pokémon did not come.
“Pidgeotto? Charmeleon? Mightyena?”
All of the duo’s Pokémon had been knocked out. Absol, Plusle and Minun were standing and with very little damage. Miltank had also joined the fight. Other villager’s Pokémon were also fighting for their village’s freedom. Only the water and ground types were still in action desperately putting out fires.
“Argh! This can’t be happening!”
“Better believe it. Now leave and never return!”
“Not a chance!” Torano said.
“Stop embarrassing us.” Shakita said. “We need to retreat now.”
“But what will the general say?”
“What will the general say if we get captured?”
“Right.”
Torano and Shakita ran off leaving their Pokémon comrades behind. Hope tried to see where they took off too but it was too late. Hope looked around to see the fallen Pokémon that were once under the command of those two. The Pokémon were merely unconscious and not severely injured. The village was relief from the flames and war for the rest of the night. Hope was organizing with the mayor a disaster relief plan and looking for survivors. Thankfully no one died in the awful fight.
“I can’t believe they would just leave their Pokémon behind.” Karen said
“I know it sounds rather dishonorable.” Hope replied.
“What are these Pokémon going to do now?”
“I don’t know.”
“Hope! Hope!” Another voice cried out from the distance.
Hope turned around to see her mother running as fast she could to her. Her brother Darek was some distance behind trying to catch up. Hope dashed for her and both immediately hugged each other!
“Mom!”
“Oh, Hope I was so worried about you.”
“I am sorry Mom.”
“What happened to your clothes?” Darek asked.
“I… I guess this is going to take some time to explain.”
Karen was smiling and crying at the same time, while the Mayor started to applaud for Hope, soon a chorus of praise came from the whole village. A beam of light shot from the eastern horizon. The sun was rising to a new morning and it was again going to be a beautiful day.

Chapter Four
The rest of the new day went by in peace. However things were unusual from the tradition routines. Hope was in bed all day sleeping her exhaustion and letting her minor scratches heal. The villagers spent most of time recovering from the disater that took place last night. Thankfully the fires did little damage and no homes were lost. It was a miracle that Hope showed up on time to save Peacecraft.
“That girl never cease to amaze us.” The Mayor said as he walked with Hope’s Mother.
“Yes. The question is how did she become such a strong warrior. And the Absol I wonder where it could have come from.” Hope’s Mother replied.
“That Absol sure lives to it’s reputation that is for sure.”
“What do you mean?”
“Absol is known to be the disaster Pokémon.” the Mayor said. “It is said its appearance is based on the fore coming or arrival of a great tragedy. Absol is also known to do anything in its power to stop the tragedy from continuing though.”
“Wow I didn’t know that.”
“An Absol has never been seen anywhere in these mountains for decades, until now. I wonder how Hope was able to tame it even when she didn’t have her own Pokémon to fight against it.”
“Perhaps the Absol came to her.” Hope’s mother implied.
“Perhaps, only she can answer that question.”
“Mr. Mayor!” a distant voice called out.
The Mayor and Hope’s Mother turned around to see Karen running to them.
“Ah. Karen how are you doing?” the Mayor asked.
“I am good.” Karen replied. “Is Hope any better?”
“She is fine.” Hope’s mother said. “She is just getting some much need rest.”
“Thank goodness. Um, ma’am when did Hope get those clothes? I have never seen them before.”
“I don’t think anyone ever has.” Mr. Mayor said.
“Agreed. She never had such an outfit. It seems like it was made for a warrior.”
“Okay.”
“Once Hope recovers, I am sure she will explain everything that has happened.”
Meanwhile deep in a forest miles away from the western borders of Koritain. Team Darkheart entered a camp where Aragtok soliders were resting and preparting for battle. Torano and Shakita walked into the largest tent ready to report to their commanding officer.
“Sir, we have some… news.” Torano said.
“Report Torano. Did you take the village?” said a figure sitting in shadow.
Torano paused for a moment because fear griped his tounge. “No sir. We were overcome by the village.”
“What!?” said the shadowed man in outrage.
“There was a girl of amazing power and she had a Pokémon. An Absol.”
“Just one Absol verses your twelve? Impossible.”
“She was also a fierce warrior and could have easily killed us.”
“The girl wore a seal upon her chest which could explain her identity. It was written in a language not readable to my eye however I did copy it image down.”
“Show me!”
Torano passed a piece of parchment to the shadowed man. He opened it to see the inscription. After a moment of study. The shadowed man finally calmed down.
“So it has begun.”
“What sir?” Shakita said.”
“Silence and let me talk. When our emperor took our land for his control the old king’s prophets foretold that the guardians of the Pokémon would grant power to seven chosen that would free the lands. We didn’t think this would ever happen. However the emperor would not take any chances and began conquering the entire known world.
“We are strong,” the shadowed man continued. “We have the power to defeat this so called prophecy and we will. The emperor is the ultimate power in the world and we will defeat Koritain.”
“Yes Sir.” said Shakita and Torano both.
“I will grant you forgiveness on this incident however you should well know that unacceptable failure is not an option.”
“Yes Sir.”
“Go to the plains of Noi. Let the village of Boranth be our next target instead.”
“The plains are like an ocean of wheat though. It stretches for miles.”
“Yes, the village of Peacecraft was our more desirable location to establish a base in Koritain however this village will suffice. It is impossible to sneak up on this village. It stands on a hill which gives no attack from any direction an easy target.”
“Yes sir.” Team Darkheart said in unison. “We will not fail.”
“Be sure that you don’t. This time take a battalion with you. In the meantime the rest of the camp will establish an operation 20 miles northwest of Boranth.”
It wasn’t long before 20 troops including Team Darkheart started the long quest towards the village. After they left, the shadowed man unleashed a Fearow. He attached a message tube to the bird Pokémon and commanded it to go to Aragtok. “The emperor will conquer this girl and no one will be able to awaken the others before they all die.”
A huge banquet was underway in the village of Peacecraft. The villagers were singing and dancing around a bonfire while Hope sat at the Mayor’s table as the guest of honor. She was dressed in a festive white dress that her mother rarely allowed her to wear. It wasn’t long before she couldn’t stay pinned to the table and started dancing with Karen and the others. Plusle and Minun joined the dancing as well. Absol even was enjoying itself to the food. There was no worries that evening.
While the party continued Hope and her family, except Darek who continued to divulge himself into the food, Karen and her mother, and the Mayor took their leave to Hope’s home. Once they arrived they all sat down and Hope mother served everyone hot cider. Hope then began her explaination of the incident in the forest and how she came across Absol.
She kept things to the precise truth and explained everything to the exact detail, no matter how ususual things got for them. However the Mayor seemed to understand everything as if he was there when the hole thing started to happen. Hope then revealed the sword she received.
“It is such a beautiful weapon.” Karen’s mother said.”
“Indeed.” Hope’s mother said. “What is this inscription?”
“I don’t know. It seems that will learn it in time.” Hope replied.”
“Now about that seal upon your outfit you wore last night,” the mayor cut in, “is there a chance I might be able to see it.”
“Hope took all of them into her room where the outfit laid clean on her bed. Plusle and Minun woke up and surprised to see the group come in however they weren’t upset. The Mayor took the time to study the seal in particular while the other admired the whole outfit. Then the Mayor took out a piece of parchment from his inner jacket pocket.”
“Hope, when the incident ended last night, I sent my best scholars to find some answers to some of the many of the things that happened. Some of them went to the city of Sonora, which is the closest settlement to our village. They also reported the incident to the military outpost there which they should have reported to their commanders by now.
“When they came back they brought back a document that I found of use from the city’s library. It describes about the ancient times before the evil days of Aragtok.”
“Please tell us.” said Karen.
“Okay, long ago. The nation of Aragtok was ruled by a wise and kind king, and the people lived in peace and prosperity for 200 years. Back then the nation was actually called Noavia, which in the ancient people tongue meant, the white kingdom. The king had many faithful subjects and did anything of his desire because he continuously helped the peoples live extremely happy lives. There was no worry in that kingdom.
“However, there was a greedy peasent who was not happy in the kingdom. He often broke law and disrupt the peace in the cities of Noavia. However he could not get caught by the king’s militia. Soon he started to earn followers and called upon the aid of evil soldiers from all of the lands of the known world. Soon war broke loose and somehow the evil man conquered the land. It is rumored he broke into the Palace of Sia, and took a great power from its halls and won the land with it.
“Upon the old king’s fall, his seven prophets sacrified their lives in order to cry out to help to save the kingdom. Their souls are said to be absorbed in the spirits of the guardian gods of Pokémon who promised in return that seven destined heroes would take back the land lost to the evil man. This seal matches one of the seals of the seven prophets. So in other terms, you speak the truth and you are the Child of Virtue.”
When the mayor finished his story. Hope discovered her mother was starting to shed tears.
“Mom, what is wrong?”
“I don’t want you to go, but you have to.”
“Yes, this is something I have to do.”
Hope and her mother hugged for quite some time. Karen got the mayor another cup of cider while her mother carefully put Hope’s outfit into her closet. She then replaced the sword in its holster. Soon their conversations began again, discussing Hope’s departure.
Absol slept quietly outside of Hope’s home. However his rest was disrupted when footsteps could be heard from the distance. He then gave a mild howl which caught the attention of Hope and the others inside. Hope was the first out the door with her sword in hand, despite not being dressed for battle. Others followed quickly. They all waited at the gate looking at the horizon of the road to see what the marching was about.
“Koritain soldiers!” the Mayor said.
“Really?” Hope’s mother asked.
Hope put her sword back in the house and all of them ran to the battalion of men armed. A captain led them and then stopped the group as Hope’s party approached them. The captain then allowed them to at ease themselves. The captain was riding a Rapidash.
“Mayor of Peacecraft.” The captain said.
“Yes, captain?” The mayor replied.
“We have been ordered to guard the village of Peacecraft in this most unstable time. Forgive us as we did not anticipate an attack so deep in our own borders.”
“Oh, I am glad you are here now.” The mayor said with a laugh.
The captain then turned to Hope. “Heroine of Layania,”
“Oh you got a title now?” Karen whispered to Hope.
“Thank you for protecting your village in your time of need. We only wish we where there to stop from the attack from ever thanking place.”
“Thank you for your thoughts.” Hope said with a bow. “I am glad to see that the village will now remain safe in my absence.”
“You are not staying?”
“No.” Hope replied. “Saving my village is just the unintentional first step to a quest I must embark on.”
“I see. Very well.” The captain said. “We promise that Peacecraft will ever remain in peace as long as our strength will hold strong.”
“Well,” the mayor said. “Your men must be tired. We have a festival going on in Hope’s victory. Please allow your men to enjoy the food and water which we have plenty of.
“I appreciate your services.” The captain replied. “Men, dismissed.”
As the soldiers dispersed down the road, Karen was frantically looking at each soldier carefully. The captain then approached her.
“Young lady, are you looking for someone?”
“Yes sir. My father was recruited into the army. I was wondering if he is with you. His name is Koritae Ellenheart.”
“Ellenheart? I remember him. He is not amongst us I am afraid. He has been posted as a guard for the capital city.”
“Oh wow,” Karen said with a forced enthusiasm. “I am so proud of my dad.”
“You should be young lady. Few are chosen for such an honor. However if we are successful in defending the land in this latest conflict, he should return home soon enough.”
“Thank you sir. I appreciate it so much!”
“Hope,” the Mayor said. “I will see you in the future. Please come back alive to us.”
“Thank you Mr. Mayor.”
The mayor and the captain then walked down the hill to the festival.
“I think it is time to go to bed.” Hope’s mother said. “You have a long adventure in front of you.”
“Yes, I think so.”
Karen turned to her mother. “Um. Mom. May I stay with Hope tonight? This is the last night I will ever be with her for a long time.”
“Of course dear. I will see you in the morning.” Karen’s mother replied.
Karen’s mother walked down the hill. While Karen, Hope, and her mom went inside to retire for the night. Karen made out a floor bed out of the spare blankets next to Hope’s bed. Plusle and Minun did have to move their bed under Hope’s but didn’t minded because Hope allowed them to sleep on hers tonight. Karen and Hope spend the last few hours in Hope’s window sill looking at the stars.
“Look there is the Gardevoir constellation!” Karen said.
“Yeah. I can see it. Look there is the bright Pikachu star next to it.”
“Oh look a shooting star!” Karen said with excitement. She closed her eyes and crossed her fingers.
“What are you wishing?” Hope asked.
“If I told you it wouldn’t come true now would it?”
Hope giggled at Karen’s last statement. However the tear in Karen’s eye told her that Karen wished that she would make it home safe. It was then both went to bed. Minun and Plusle refused to move less than an inch away from Hope knowing this was their last night with their friend. Meanwhile, downstairs Hope’s mother was awake sipping on some tea and was in tears.

Chapter Five
The sun rose in a cover of clouds, however Hope awoken to the faint light nevertheless. She got up and dressed in the new clothes she received from the temple, she also quickly armed herself and got Absol awoken as well. She carefully wrapped her Minun and Plusle in her covers where she slept. She then slipped out the back and completed her usual chores one last time. She then went back up into her room and pulled out two letters. One she placed by her best friend Karen as she still slept beside her bed. The second she took downstairs.
She discovered her mom was asleep in a chair next to a dying fire. She was shivering in the cold because her blanket fell off. Hope wrapped the blanket carefully and wiped off one remaining her off of her mother’s cheek. She then left the second letter on the armrest of the chair. With her thing in her sachet, she left the house quietly with Absol.
It wasn’t long before she reached the last hill where she could see Peacecraft village. It still remained unstiturbed, she then thought of the letter she left her mother…
Dear Mom,
By the time you read this letter, I will be gone. I am sorry I didn’t stay for you to say one last good bye but I couldn’t bear the pain of saying good bye to you or to Karen. I wouldn’t be able to leave my home like that. I will return someday hopefully soon too. I know I will be able to complete my mission somehow.
I will miss you always.
Hope
Hope then left disappeared across the horizon and Peacecraft was finally behind her.
Hope walked down the main road for some time, Absol was right beside her the whole time.
“So Absol where should we go first?”
“Absol.” The disaster Pokémon said with discouragement.
“I see perhaps where we need to go will come before us.”
It was then a bright light appeared before Hope startling her. It wasn’t long before she relized that it was one of the guardians she met back in the temple. She then waited to let it speak.
“You passed the first mission successfully.”
Soon two more appeared around her.
“You must now save others.”
“To the southeast you must go.”
“There your foe will attack.”
“The village on the sea of wheat.”
“The village on the sea of wheat?” Hope asked. Then she relized what they were talking about. “Boranth! That is where they are going!” She knew that by now Team Darkheart had more than enough of a headstart on her and she could never make it on foot. “How can I get there?”
“Find allies.”
“Pokémon you mean?” Hope asked.
“They will challenge your strength,”
“But will join your fight if you prove strong enough.”
“Use the medallions.”
Hope looked at the blue jewels at her waist. She then relized they could capture up to six Pokémon. Absol was assigned to the first, the other five could be used for new friends.
“Alright. I will do it.”
“Thank you child of virtue.”
“Boranth and the world,”
“Rest on your shoulders.”
The guardians disappeared and Hope’s sight readjusted to the normal daylight. She looked around getting her bearing and relized that southeast was to her right. “Come Absol, we need to get to Boranth as fast as possible.”
“Sol.”
Hope and Absol raced through the forest. Occasionally Hope would take a break to get her bearing straight and continued on the quickest path she could find. They ran for about two hours when the stopped to take a much needed break. Hope took out some food for the both of them. Hope tried to rest against a tree but could help but think about the Boranth villagers.
“Hmm. I don’t think that Shakita and Torano would immediately head for Boranth after the beating we gave them.”
Absol looked up in curiosity.
“They needed to fall back especially after Shakita took a hit from Torano’s arrow. So they must have a camp around here somewhere.”
“Sol.”
“So we might have a chance at beating them to Boranth but we need to get there faster. Do suppose you could carry me there?”
“ABSOL! Sol sol sol Absol!” Absol argued while shaking its head.
“Relax it is just a joke.”
Hope and Absol got back up and dashed off again through the forest. They soon came across a meadow in the forest. Sunset was approaching quickly and Hope knew that the village was still about two days away at her given speed. She knew she had to get some help somehow however she only encountered small cute pokémon like Sentrets and Pidgey.
“Look over there.” Hope said.
Absol turned to the right where Hope pointed.
“A spring and a pond. Lets get some water before we leave here.”
“Sol.”
Absol started to refresh itself while Hope took her cantina and refilled it. She then got herself a much needed drink. She then paused at looked at the cantina.
“This use to belong to my father.”
Absol sniffed the cantina and turned back at Hope.
“He used this often as he took me on hikes in the mountains. We use to look for wild razz berries and play with some pokémon we would find in the Layania mountains.”
“Sol.”
“Well I had better stop thinking about it. Lets go.”
Absol nodded but then it said “Sol?”
“What is it?”
Bubbles started to emerge from the pond and then an explosion of water came from the pond. Hope fell back while Absol backed away from the pond. Hope looked up to see a distortion flying in the sky. She got herself up and discovered that the distortion was charging her.
“Absol! Use Faint Attack!”
Absol raced to the distoration and made a direct hit. It flew back now engaged with Absol.
“Absol use your foresight to see what we are fighting!”
Absol closed its eyes and then opened them in a shining blue color. The whole area turned blue and Hope looked to the distoration. Foresight caused the distortion to vanish which reveal a blue and white Pokémon, one that Hope never seen before or even heard of. It had usual wings with webbed feet and arms that were curled back into it’s body.
“What’s that Pokémon?” Hope asked herself. She then refocused on the battle.
“Absol use Swift.”
“Absol!” The pokémon fired off brusts of energy at the mysterious dragon like Pokémon. The attack made a direct hit, and the Pokémon was forced to back off from Absol. It then fired off an intense beam of energy at Absol.
“Absol watch out! That is a Hyper Beam!”
Absol barely dodged the intense attack and then body slammed the Pokémon. It fell to the ground while Absol landed on its feet. Hope for some reason instinctively tossed out on of her blue medallions into the air and cried out a lyric.
“Riahana lu nikano!”
The medallion shined brightly and shot a stream of light at the mysterious Pokémon. The light enveloped the Pokémon and collected it into the medallion.
“Whoa, where I learn to speak that?”
The medallion fell to the soft ground and started to shake while it glowed, then it stopped and appeared like normal.
“Did I just capture that Pokémon?”
“Sol.” The Absol said with a nod.
Hope picked up the medallion and looked at it. It was a little brighter than before. She then thought of something.
“Pokémon come out!”
She held out the medallion and in a flash of light, the mysterious Pokémon appeared. The pokémon looked exhausted but now calm. She approached it carefully.
“Are you alright? Don’t worry I won’t hurt you.”
“Laaa.” The Pokémon cried out in an unusual voice.
“Laaa?” Kristy asked “What is your name?”
“Latios.”
“Latios huh? I never met a Pokémon like you before.”
“Latios nodded it then looked down with a tear in its eye.”
“What’s the matter?” Hope asked.
All of a sudden Hope mind was filled with memories that Latios had it was like she was following it’s past on what had happen recently. She saw Latios along with another Pokémon like it only red slowly flying through the forest. Then a group of humans appeared out of no where and attacked them. Latios was fightly magnificently and got the red Pokémon the chance to escape.
Latios kept fight but lost track of two of the evil humans. Soon the entire troop fled the scene. Latios went looking for its sister pokémon, but only discovered one of its tiny red feathers instead along with a torn piece of clothing.
Hope regain herself and saw Latios pullout that piece of clothing, Hope recognized it immediately from being from Torano’s attire.
“Team Darkheart! They took your sister?”
Latios nodded.
“Don’t worry I know where they are going.”
Latios looked up in excitement.
“Latios! Laa!”
“You want to come along? Okay.”
Latios nudged at Hope’s side. Hope relized that she was suppose to climb on to Latios. She did successfully.
“Absol I guess you will have to sit tight for a while huh?”
“Sol.”
Hope grabbed the first medallion and recalled Absol into it. She then snugged herself tight and pointed in the direction they needed to go.
“Lets go Latios!”
“Laaaaaa!”
