Hello everyone. I've decided to get out front and offer our City Championship on the first available date!

Saturday, November 20th
Hobbytown USA
Brookfield, WI 53005
Doors Open at 10:00
Tournament begins at 11:00
Admission: FREE

PUI's prize support for each division in the event is:

1st place: 18 Boosters
2nd place: 9 Boosters
3/4th place: 4 Boosters

I will be providing additional prizes over and above the standard prize support. In fact, if there are at least 10 players in a division I will give out

DOUBLE THE PRIZES

That will make it:

1st place: 36 Boosters (1 Sealed Booster Box)
2nd place: 18 Boosters
3/4th place: 9 Boosters

That's right. Double the prizes you get everywhere else. And it's FREE.

This is a great way to kick off the new OP season and get a jumpstart on testing your latest RS-on Modified Decks!

Edit:
There will be a draft event to follow the main tournament. The entry cost for this side event is $10, and the prizes will be TRR, with some Dragon possible as well.

The venue for this event has seating for only 50 players. Please arrive on time to be sure you are able to play. We could have a few games running on the floor, but there are definitely limits to that. We have never had more than 36 players at any event here, but free admission has a way of bringing people out of the woodwork.

I will open registration as early as possible, which should be no later than 10:30. [/Edit]

How bout a Sealed event using the new starters (the ones with Blaze and Gardy in them) and the Worlds decks (which might or might not be out by then)? That'd be very fun...

HypnosProjectHQ

Wicked awsome. I will be there. Dunno how many of my homies will tag along, though.

For a side event, how about finally trying out the GBA tourney? :p

The problem there would be the high cost of the product needed for the event. Add in prize costs, and the entry fee goes too high. We can do sealed with older theme decks though, if that interests people.

I personally favor a draft format (perhaps a Neo/EXP draft for old times sake. Prizes would be from Modified-legal sets.

For a side event, how about finally trying out the GBA tourney?

I'm all for that! But, the only problem is that is exceptionally hard to get the word out to all potential players. I suppose I'd like to run a GBA event separately from the TCG events, on a different day. Maybe we should have a GBA tournament over Christmas break?

My main goal is to provide a side event that is fun and rewarding for ALL players!

If you ever want to run a GBA event then, alert me before anyone else because...
A. I know all the rules to official GBA events.
B. I thought of the idea for Brookfield in the first place.
C. I can help set up/run GBA stuff.
D. I can play and/or .... JUDGE! :)

Depending on public opinion, then maybe a 5 pack TRR/FRLG draft? That shouldn't be more than 15-20ish, right?

The only problem I have with a GBA tournament is Gameshark/AR hacks. You can bet someone will come with a hacked team.

Thats what checking in is for. You check the team to make sure it hasn;t been sharked. There are quite a few obvious give aways.

36 days until the CC! :)

For the side event, I am leaning toward drafting from older sets (Neo/EXP) and giving prizes from Modified-legal sets.

We could do a 5-pack Neo draft for $10. The prizes would not be huge, but I could probably make them TRR.

Sounds like fun, I should be able to make the trip up there for this tournament. A older draft would be totally "nostalgic" and would definately be fun.

Everyone is welcome at Brookfield!

We can hold our own against the competition (we sent 2 players to Worlds with invites after all) so we like it when people come in from other cities and states!

I'm glad to see a big crew from Chicago is coming. Tell Drakemere to bring a whole vanload from Iowa if he can! :D

ACTUALLY... Jared presented the option of the 6 of us in 11-14 playing up so we have a chance at the enhanced prize stucture. If everyone takes that, which most likely most, if not all, will, we will have absolutely no 11-14 attendance. :p

And also, Magma Meltdown is no 40-0. So, so pretty. ;)

I really agree with mekonow, people should wait until after TRR is release to hint at what they are going to use. I believe, however, in keeping what I plan to use in any modified deck to my self, surprise can be a great ally and your opponent doesn't know what to expect.

I would have to agree with HypnosProjectHQ, TRR is gonna be the big thing in decks now, there are a lot of good card combinations and new cards for all types of decks. I know I will be changing my decks after the 4th TRR prerelease I attend on Sunday Nov 7th- I should have enough knowledge about the set and enough cards by then.

Broken Lizard
11/04/2004, 04:30 AM
Exactly. The idea of having this CC early on is to give everyone a chance to test new deck ideas before everyone else. Who knows... maybe someone in Brookfield will manage to lay out a new archetype!

HypnosProjectHQ
11/04/2004, 05:06 AM

We've had a surge of new players at league recently. I think that'll carry over into good numbers for our CC!

I need to get going on deckbuilding myself. I look forward to actually playing in someone else's tournaments for a change. I'd like to win another World's invite, and I'll need to do some serious testing to get there.

I've gotten some inquiries about the side event over AIM. It will be a straight draft event, using Neo or Expedition-block cards. Prizes will be from MF-legal sets (probably TRR). The cost will be $10.

Want to have a rough idea on whos coming and what kind of admission (if any) and prize support is wanted. My prize structure wont be able to compare to what you offer being a poor college student, but I do the past I can. Theres a link to my league/tournment thread in my signature.

Anybody who thinks they may be able to attend PM me or post on my thread and I can give you any details you may need, like directions and such.

I'll be at the CC for sure, I'll be busy playtesting all week with rulemaster and pokewisconsin.

Where's that Team Wisconsin spirit, as a member, you should be positive and support your fellow members to do their best and offer what advice you can, to lead them to victory. Helping each other out is an important rule, in fact its in our charter...lol...rule # 2. So, with any luck one of your fellow members in the 15 and up, will take the gold, but we wish everyone the best. We will also cheer you on as well....
Team Wisconsin rocks!!!!!!!

See ya

Heh. You guys will absolutely LOVE my spirit today! I am like... totally prepared. Ready for a whoppin', Chi-town and friends?

SLOW DECK

Did Dave III run his perfectly built Monarchy Deck?

(I truely admire the deck because the fit's together so very well. I am too proud to copy, and ain't smart enough to figure out a spoiler balanced enough to win a tourney yet.)

Who won? What Deck's where out there?

Signed, sealed and delivered!

The TRN files for the CC and for the side draft are both uploaded as of now.

We had 19 in the 15+, 12 in the 11-14 and 2 in the 10- (and another 10- who dropped 1st round).

Thanks to all who came out and made this a great event! :D

Yes, Dave III did win, but he didn't go undefeated. I beat him. Nobody in 15+ went undefeated.

Jason did go undefeated for 11-14, but nearly lost his final game (Props to Peter for keeping him on the ropes!).

10- did matter because there are some really competitive players in there right now. Watch out for them when they move up!

The draft side event was awesome. I got 1st place for Team WI. Props to everyone who stayed.

I pulled a Shining Treecko out of the packs I won in the booster draft. PM me if anyone wants to buy/trade for it.

Overall a great day of Pokemon. Thanks to all who came.

Major props to BrokenLizard, another awesome job!

10- winner was Jimmy's boy (played a Meta/Byss). I hear he beat some in the higher age divisions to win too. :thumb: (congrats buddy) Congrats to all!

Congrats to all! I was sad that I didn't win, but I realized there are almost 6 other CC's I can possibly make it to. :)

Hey Dave III,

Just because I am affiliated with Team Wisconsin now, doesn't mean that on the city level, I don't consider myself as part of Team Chicago, cuz I do. I created Team Wisconsin so I could help gather all of Wisconsin's players and form a group, in order to get everyone to help each other with tourneys, trades, and anything else. I noticed how players are few and far from each other and now with Team Wisconsin we can keep in contact and keep the game alive here. I hope you understand, and I would never consider myself a cheesehead under any circumstances. I live in Wisconsin, but I didn't come from Wisconsin.....

Its okay Dave,

I wasn't trying to be all serious about it, I was just trying to make my point about establishing Team Wisconsin.

As for the challenge, hopefully most of the team will make it, I know I will be there. All I have to say is ...Bring It On!!!!

Saturday was a lot of fun. My magma deck experienced losses from 3 crobat decks, and had many tough games...so its time to make a new deck. I had a lot of fun anyways. In the limited tourney i played parasect/magcargo, but didnt put enough energy in the deck to get mag out fast enough. that was also a lot of fun. props to team chicago, and everyone else who traveled to come to brookfield. it makes the events so much better when we get the out-of-town players. hope you all can come to the 2-on-2 rochester.

The draft was more fun than the CC itself: I drafted a 6-5 Piloswine line b/c everyone just kept passing the things to me. Same with the stalling babies. Every single game save one, I got a baby active and a Swinub benched opening hand, and only lost b/c of resistance and b/c I didn't have a baby active on the last turn. I got 2nd, my friend got 3rd, and I got 12 packs total from the day, as well as 3 of each CC promo (Manda and Macha), and 2 TRR boxtoppers. Good times!

Yeah bullados that deck you drafted was tough. I'm glad I had enough resistance to stall and deck you. Great game! Can't wait for the rochester draft!
