Does that include the ones where the site seems to be entirely unavailable, and message pops up saying an email has been dispatched to the admin (something about a database error...)??? 'cause I've gotten that several times the past couple of days - from different computers (but all from the same home LAN).

Yeah, actually. Just say it was the "default" error, and tell me what you were doing when you got it. I'll get the error in email soon after, so I can find out the actual error message.

I have a problem with some of the icons. With some of the moderators' icons, they look at little buggy and messed up. Was this from releasing the "icons that can be used by all?"

I'm getting a boatload down here. The Reply buttons have disappeard, the formatting buttons for text are gone. The pathway for the sites are gone, and the posting boxes are a different shape format from normal. What is going on?

Oh and my main purpose was to thank you for placing borders around the various tables. I was worried you were going to keep the borders off. Nice work so far with the current vbulletin update.

SOMEHOW the options in the database was heavily modified/deleted. So there were no available settings for the board.

Things should be up and running again. I'm again in contact with the host to find out what may have happened.

You think you people are frustrated? I'm the one having to figure out what's wrong! And I get to hear all the crabbing about it being down, when there is unfortunately not much I can do at the moment.

To my knowledge the host has been attacked a lot lately by someone. They have had a lot of downtime due to this, and the mysql (the database) has been turned off frequently since that is what the user is attacking.

No way. Oracle is expensive, usable, but expensive. SQL Server is well... pure crap. Free does NOT mean it's bad. Infact, mysql and Apache are better than top notch servers.

Both Apache and mySQL are extremely stable, secure, and very easy to work with.

As for the recent downtime, I spoke with one of the owners of the company: Well we actually have never been down. It's mostly due to removing abusive accounts from the server. When an account is removed it has to restart apache, which causes HTTP to go down while it's restarting.

I don't know if this is intentional or not, but in people's Profiles, the "Additional Info about ___" box has a dark gray background now, making it hard to read the black text. Making it white again would fix that. :) Thanks.

you go to edit subscriptions in your user CP (top left), check all subscriptions you dont want, then at the bottom of the table click delete OK.

That style is long gone. With the upgrade of vB to gamma 7 came a new default layout and system. This new system is much easier to handle and maintain. All of the features, plus some, that were on that bar are still available in the top menu... just in a different form :)

Just a few seconds, actually. You can check this by watching how your own status will change from "Viewing ___" to "Viewing who's online".

Try clearing out your cookies. More than likely you cookies are messed up in some way. Clearing them out of your system and refreshing it will more than likely fix your problem.

apparently more and more people are running into the same (or similar ) problem that I posted above - timing out when trying to edit a lengthy post. myst has mentioned it on his Origins topic and now bjj on his trade thread.

I used a workaround in that I parceled my long post out to three and was finally eable to get everything posted in this manner. :(

BJJ came up to me about this a week or two ago. I'll just let you know the same thing. Our host has a 30 second limit on page loads. On long posts the 30 second limit is exceeded and times out. There isn't much I can do about this, since I don't have control over the server. I will speak with Mark about modifying it... see if he'll agree or not. If he doesn't, then we'll just have to make sure we don't make the posts excessively long.

I havent tried to post a new thread, but replying, and trying to see my user cp and private messages all come up with the error message, saying an e-mail has been sent to the technical staff. It's because Arizona is wacky regarding how it observes or doesn't observe Daylight Savings Time.
Some parts of the state do, so don't, some go one way, some go the other .

Hmm. Several of us experienced some slowness/non-loading this (PDT) evening. Later some database errors showed up. We had some corrupted tables. You know, like when company comes over and spills on the dinner table, then no one wipes up for a couple days, causing a corrupted table. That happens occasionally in California because we are organic and natural. Now these are database tables, not dinner tables, and the host computer is not in California, so it wasn't the same thing, but you get the idea -- something was not right. I repaired the database tables because the database developers were smart enough to build a tool to do that and some other guys were smart enough to make a tool to easily use that repair tool. Load time and the (non-)appearance of database errors seem back to normal. Sorry if that explanation is too technical and hard to follow, I don't post in the RTC much.

Folks we added some security to the Gym tonite. So far, we've found that Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall default settings can prevent you from posting. For this site, http://www.pokegym.net/, follow the steps outlined in this support message from Norton:

But the box I posted on is still bold so I either accidently click on it later thinking a new post has been made, or I check the thread again. If I check it again, it goes back to normal. OK first off, let me dispel some rumors:

1. Old versions of Windows, including Windows ME, see the images as good as new versions.

2. You don't need to change browsers to see our images.

We turned on hotlink protection to make sure that people couldn't use our bandwidth and images via their web pages. We've just started adding graphical content and needed to do this to go forward with more.

So, what is wrong?

Your browser needs to pass the REFERRER information to our site.

The server now checks the referrer info to make sure you linked our image from our pages; if not, the image will not be served.

Some browsers can turn off referrer - this is considered a privacy feature. This way as you browse from site to site, the next site in the chain can't tell which site you were just on.

Also, some firewalls BLOCK transmission of the referrer, see these instructions if you use Norton Firewall/Internet Security:

Otherwise, you'll have to find the referrer privacy feature in your browser and turn it off for the Gym's URLs which are http://pokegym.net and http://www.pokegym.net.

Just wanted to acknowledge your and WPM's bug notice. I'm aware of the issue & there are a number of small graphical issues that need to be handled; this will be one of them. The icon file is present, but apparently corrupted. Give us about a week then check back.

Is it possible to modify the search function to allow searches for words that are three letters or less? Sometimes I like to see how certain cards are used, but for the cards that are often abbreviated to that many letters, it doesn't work.

If you want to use something that is three letters long, use * after the word. Anything less than that I don't think will work.

There's currently a bug in the search function when searching by keywords. The only stuff that's coming up in the Search Results window is stuff that was either posted or edited since the server move. This makes searching for older stuff way more tedious than it was before. I thought it was a side-effect of the read-only period, but the read-only period's over and the problem persists. Only keyword searching is affected, username searching is working fine. I believe all forums are affected.

Keyword searching through the Advanced Search page, the quick search from a forum, and searching from within a thread are all affected by this bug. Only username searching, both from profile and the Advanced Search page, works as it should.

Can the keyword searching be fixed?

Just edit a post of yours, or go to Advanced reply at the bottom of this screen. You will see the smilies icon for the message/thread(if it would be one) and see that the Question mark doesn't work. It isn't in the smilies list.

No, they didn't catch up - just resumed getting new notifications. Oh well, maybe Yahoo! was having issues (although other email was received during this period)...

Well, we're still working things out, but the idea is once you submit, you don't change your entry. This keeps the submission from becoming an arms race and the judges from having a moving target. Open to comments. PM me. So, "it's not a bug, it's a feature".

The combination was the number I just typed, then I tried typing it, and I just get a d. Is there an error, or something wrong with my computer?

MAJOR BUG TO REPORT!!!!!

Apparently, when the server went down, all posts from that time period were deleted. Any changes in avatars were also turned back to what they originally were, PM's that were sent were deleted, etc. I used to have a Eevee, then changed it to Jolteon this morning, and it was back to Eevee when I logged on. I also had a big conversation with my PTO through PM and contacted others on various things.

I'm sure onderlnd or bulbasnore will give a reply to it...

I've had a re-occuring error, and I'm not sure if this is the 'Gym or me. I am surfing PokeGym, and all of a sudden whenever I click on a link, two new windows pop up with the exact same thread. And I still have the existing one. This happens once every 2 weeks, on average. Any ideas?

On the news forum(any update that's on the main page, at the top of the page), non proffesors can't post! Pop said he'd report it as an error, but still, I can't comment on anything in there. I can comment on the articles farther down, but not on the news that is brand new.

I sometimes fall into a rare card and a lot of the time, I want to get rid of it so I can grab me something nice. But it's a pain to do so because even after I post it in my have list/ want list thread, the thread just falls to page 3 and nobody responds. I think it'd be awesome if I could actually search the trading forum for people who need the rare card I have. So when I need to trade my Groudon*, I can just do a search, everyone who has Groudon* in their want list thread pops up and I can contact each of them. That would speed up the process of getting rid of it and it would just be a lot easier than having to wait for people to reply. Seriously, how many people are going to go back 5 pages to my trade thread just so they can see what I have for trade? Not many IMHO. Sure, I could bump my thread, but everyone bumps their thread, so it all just cancels out really.

Well, you could seperate the trade forum into two parts, have lists and want lists. People could then open up a search on the want lists for a card they own, then PM that person and start up a trade.

Good idea, but here's my problem with it.

With one part having Haves lists and the other having Wants lists. It could be a problem going between the two. I wouldn't want to go from one to the other.

Nice idea, but it would be much harder to figure out big trades going from one list to the other. JMO.

you mean the link to contact you by email in your profile?

If the latter, nothing is obviously broken on the server that I can see, so PM me with some data like:

mail headers from a sample message
how many messages were sent on what dates and then delivered later (and the date delivered)

Profile pictures, haven't been working for me. Meaning, when you click on a member's avvy, if they are displaying a picture in their profile it doesn't show up.

Also, some of the buttons aren't showing their pictures on the Quick Reply box. For example, I can't see the Check Spelling, the Increase/Decrease button, and the Switch Editor Mode. Just 2 boxes where they should be.

EDIT: Another thing I noticed. On my Suscribed Threads, whenever I reply to one of them or view one then go on to another, it dissappears from the list. Before the upgrade, it turned from bold text to normal, so you could see a difference. Now it just dissapears. Was this on purpose, or an error?

It seems that now the default view for Subscribed Threads is "New Threads" - use the link at bottom right to 'view all subscribed threads', and you should see the view you're accustomed to :wink:.

I'm not really sure how to explain this. It's not really a bug, just something that's bugging me.

It used to be that, whenever you logged in, the next time you logged in, only posts made between the logins would be considered "new". Now, it considers all posts that you haven't read as "new". This is something that bugs me, as I don't read every single topic on the gym; far from it, actually.

Ok when I go back into a post I just made to edit it, and save. Sometimes it doesnt do anything at all. Then when I log out and log back in, it has all the information ive saved. It wont just update the post right then and there. ( this has happened to me 3 times already since yesterday ).

Lessee, sorry that these procedures are voodoo, but I can't figure this error out. Please, try this and let us know:

go to: http://pokegym.net (no www.) and see what happens.
Wind your way in and log out. Then come back and log in. ALSO, you might post (or PM me) with your browser and operating system versions. Try using a different browser (e.g. Firefox if using IE or Safari) and see what happens.

Did everything you suggested short of changing my browser, which I really don't want to do (I have IE). ;_; It seems to be coming and going. It stopped for a while when I logged out and in, then started back up again.

Since no one else seems to have posted it I figured it was one of those completely insanely random errors. XD

It's annoying but I can deal with it.

Hello, I'm not sure which area I'm supposed to post this in, or who to contact...

For some reason, my trade thread is bugged up. When I go to just view the thread, it shows posts that I made the previous day, but does not show my recent posts that I made today. Also when looking at the trading thread index, it says that Gatsu was the most recent person who replied, but when I go into my thread, it shows that I was the most recent person to reply to that thread.

On another note, when I click on Gatsu's name on the main index of the trading post, it jumps right to my public profile instead...

Also, whenever I make a reply to my thread, THEN I can see my new posts and new posts that other people made, but when I go back or exit the page and try to come back in, the same thing happens where it only shows my posts that I made yesterday... I switched the contact email to an external list that TC uses.

Before changing anything, go to your control panel and check your thread subscriptions. Are you still subscribed to everything you think you should be? I used to be subscribed to this thread, but somehow I lost the subscription & had to resubscribe. I'm guessing the upgrade is associated with this problem, but I'm not sure. Lil' help with some data on this problem would be great.

To be honest, I've got subscriptions for 21 threads. That is by no means all of the ones I've replied to (over 600), but it's still a fair chunk. I'm getting no notifications at all. None on pm's either. Mind you, when I go to this site I automatically have a pop up if I have gotten a pm, but that's it.

Edit: After posting this, I went back to my CP and it doesn't have this thread in my subscriptions. Odd, .... very odd.

Edit #2: I went to my total subscriptions and there was a box that was unchecked. I think I have it sorted out now, but I'll know for sure when I get home to check my emails.

Edit #3: I doubt it worked. I went back to my total subsriptions, and the notification checkbox was unchecked again. So I went to options and changed from instant notification to daily, saved it, then went to my total subscriptions. The box was still unchecked. So I changed it back to instant notification again. At the moment I have 21 new threads I'm subscribed to, and over 600 total, but no notification.

As you can see when you go to your total subscriptions, there's a box on the top right that you can check and uncheck for notifications. None of those are checked - or stay checked for that matter, when I check them. Someone might try sending an email to me through my user lookup, and see if that goes through.

Ok, this may not be a bug, but its been annoying me for a while now... I used to like getting email notification when someone post in a thread I posted in/started. But now the inconvinience of deleting 10+ emails a day is a real drag! I keep trying to tell it to stop in my options, but it wont.. I even tried weekly notification (figuring I could just delete 1 email a week instead of 70+) but to no avail. I still get an email for every PM and thread I am subscribed too... wat up wit dat, yo?

Well, I try... lol.... I am as far beyond Normal as possible! I only tried going into my user options when I tried to stop email notification.. I still recived emails today, and up til 2/28 12 AM

I just went in and set all my subscriptions to no email notification, which is lame since I had to click all them instead of just one box in the options menu... maybe it'll stop now thoug... I hope.... Maybe since I was already subscribed to them I had them.... I dunno... seems like alotta extra work... I'll post back tomorrow if I keep recieving email notifications.....

And how does that even work, not being a R.U.? Wow, I didnt know I was that good!!! lol

Just to further confuse the problem I'm having with the board's notifications, I thought I'd try to change my email address that it sends to one of my other email accounts, just to see if that will make a difference. I'll keep you updated if I'm able to get any later on today.

Crap! Yes, I'm now getting notifications. I'm not sure what is going on with my ISP, but they are stopping the notifications for some reason. I'll be giving them the boot shortly if that's what's happening. Thanks for the help, and sorry for causing a problem.

there might be a hitch in the subroutines for the siglength thing. Since different computers have different text sizes and hense different spaces to place text, what takes up 1 line on one computer could take up 3 lines on another computer. The subroutines might only check for 5 "return" enters, rather than 5 lines overall. At least, that's my guess...

Recently, after some change somewhere down the road, most of the images dissappeared. I was wondering about it, and tried replacing mine(which also dissappeared). So I try uploading this animated pokemon, and it says no animations allowed.

Is this a new rule that was implemented and not said about?
