The card text for Pokemon Reversal in Expedition reads:
Choose 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon.
Flip a coin. If heads, switch that Pokemon with
the Defending Pokemon.
The card text for Pokemon Reversal in R&S reads:
Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent switches 1 of
his or her Active Pokemon with 1 of his or her
Benched Pokemon.
Would proper procedure be to use the new printing if it is not
a misprint (such as Exp. Darknes Energy) when playing
the older cards? This is what we are accustomed to using,
but we were told to play Best Promo Winner Hitmonchan
as written with only 60 HP, which breaks that tradition.
If the card is a misprint, we erratta it or use the older
correct printing.
Or would you like to establish a standard of playing cards that
are the same but have different text as written unless it seriously
affects the game?
I noticed the ruling below is play the card as it is written:
== MARILL (EX:Sandstorm)
Q. In the EX:Sandstorm set, there are 2 identical versions of Marill, but one has a retreat cost and one does not. Which one is the correct version and how shall the 2 different versions be played?
A. This appears to be a fairly common mistake in the set. Play the card as written; if you have the Marill with the free retreat you may play it as such. (Sep 11, 2003 PUI Rules Team Meeting)
There are a lot of cards that have small errors in them, most of them are
printing a Fighing energy symbol where a Fire energy symbol should have
been and vise versa. Blaine's Charizard is an error, but if anyone has
ever actually played the card as it is written, it still works very well,
maybe even a litttle bit better. Cystal Nidoking has a worse problem
its Pokemon Power lists Fire energy, but its attack require Fighting
energy. There are also cards such as Neo SlowKing that were not
correctly translated into English -- the Japanese text on SlowKing
only lets the Pokemon Power work when it is the Active out front
Pokemon.
I noticed this:
"Q1. What is the status of rulings that were made while WotC was in control of the property?
A. Anything that was done for Pokemon, goes to PUI or... well, we're allowed to have whatever work they produced for Pokemon. (Sep 11, 2003 PUI Rules Team Meeting)
Q2.So unless something changes the way a card works, those rules should be OK

It looks to me like older cards that have already been handled might be left
alone right now, but how to handle misprints and reprints is a major
question to deal with. Seeing as how the game is being streamlined
to make the game easier to understand makes this issue something
to consider.
By the way, I like the idea of using the PokeGym to give us a place to ask questions.
Also, I would like to say that I am very pleased with the time, effort, and
money that Pokemon USA is putting into the Game.
