I was always the one who never went to midnight launches or anything like that, but I was super excited about this. A friend and I went to the GameStop to only find a handful of people there. We got the game, without a pre-order, in less than 15 minutes. Naturally, we stayed up all night gawking over the cinematics and the gameplay graphics. This is a must buy for any FF fan. The storyline is very captivating, plus the FFX sphere grid makes a pseudo-return, in the crystarium.

Anyone else excited about this, or is already playing it?

I'll get it eventually. I sorta still need to finish FFIV, FFVII, FFX, FFXII, Disgaea 1, Disgaea 2, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Eternal Sonata, Chrono Trigger...

@_@

Well I've already played star ocean (and gotten almost all the way through it - I'm at where you have to fight those two scientist guys in the "real" world) but thanks to the basically having forgotten how to play, I'll have to start it over most likely. I haven't started 4, 7, or 12 yet...

IMO, the best version of 4 is the DS version. If nothing else, it's the prettiest and the translation makes the most sense.

I would've bought this, if it would have gotten a little better reviews. I'll pick it up later on though, when it drops in price. The 8.9 on IGN kind of put me off.

you really can't go based on reviews. i mean every big fps is getting a 10 now and its trash because its like every other game in its genre. same way with a lot of the lastest game releases. if all the classic rpg's would be released now i doubt much of them would get above a 7

haha incorrect sir, the gba version of 4 is the best, because it has all of the story (they cut stuff out on the ds version) plus bonus content that goes further into the character development. As for 13, I just got it today, and am currently in love with it :D

What did the DS version cut? I didn't see anything, and I played both versions at least 3 times through each. The bonus dungeon in Adv was kool, but it only really expanded on one character (Kain). Everybody else was either some sort of maze or just beating the snot out of everything. Kain's was the only one with an actual story behind it. Meanwhile, the DS version expanded on the second coolest character in the game (Golbez) and has some of the best graphics ever seen on a DS game.

Wow, you're put off by an 8.9?

That's actually a little depressing.

I think he means that an 8.9 isn't worth a midnight release for him. He's going to play it, but not until the price drops. At least, that's what I got from his post. And it's not an unreasonable position, coming from somebody like me that has no money to speak of...

The first one with a female protagonist.

Anyone went out and buy the game yet?

I'm dying to get a PS3 or Xbox360 for this and many many other games, but I'm going to have to wait until summer to have enough money / time to play seriously. Game looks amazing though and sort of like FFX which I loved. I started playing through FFXII and stopped because it was so tedious and lame, but I still want to play it eventually too.

AFAIC, Terra was the nominal protagonist in FF6.

FF6 has the closest thing any RPG's ever come to a true ensemble cast, but yeah, if you had to pin FF6 down to one main character it'd have to be Terra.

Well, my brother went and got it. One more for the list of RPGs in the house I have to play ;_;

I mean, you can pretty well argue for Locke, Terra, Edgar, Cyan, and Celes. But having two women (two absurdly POWERFUL women at that) was a first for the genre...

I'll admit, my interest in FF games have pretty much died since 12 came out; I love the older ones with the simpler battle systems, not the newer ones where it now basically looks like some real time action RPG. Whatever happened to the good old simple ones?

I'm actually kind of stricken by 13. I much preferred the old times where you have an overworld and a ton of side story going on all at once. 13 Has no over world from my understanding and it goes level by level through 13 different chapters. It's a multi-disk game on the 360 but the more I think about it the more I'm wondering if this is only because of how high quality the graphics are.

That's not to say the game isn't good. Sure it's not everything I'd LIKE in a FF game, but the story is solid, the gameplay is fun and it's obviously beautiful. Game informer gave it a 9.25 or something like that, and that's a adecnt score by my standards.

Hopefully it stays good; that's all I care about.

Not every FPS is getting a 10, and not every FPS game is the same. This would be my first Final Fantasy game I've ever played. I'm a little more worried about jumping right in with my $60, with an 8.9. I will buy it, for sure, once it drops in price a little. It looks like a great game, and an 8.9 is a great score. But from my point of view, and my $60, there is a reason the reviewer did not cross that 9.0 mark.

Even more interesting is the added side note that you can also very easily argue that Celes is the 2nd most important character in the game behind Terra.

Terra starts the first half of the game basically alone as the only PC. Celes starts the second half basically alone as the only PC. We're agreed there.

8.9 is considered a very GOOD rating...not bad lol.
