Yes, there is shiny pokemon. It wasn't just for G/S/C. Shinies will probably be in the new Red/Green remakes for GBA.

yes they are back, and easier to catch (took me 700 hours to catch 2 shineys in GSC, 400 for RuSa) but you cant breed them this time around. I have already caught a Numel and a Wismur.

Now, how can you tell that a pokemon is Shining in R&S? Does the screen do something weird when you find one like in G/S/C or do you just see a pokemon of a different color than usual?

ROTFLMFAO. You don't know what IVs are? I'll have to explain, IVs are the formula that decide your pokemons stats. IVs can range on all pokemon from 1-31. The higher the better. The only way to tell what the precise IVs are on a pokemon is by using a special calculator on the internet, try www.pokefor.tk . IVs are not actually shown in the game, but they do exsist. Most serious trainers focus on high IVs for a stronger pokemon. It still surprises me people don't know about the exsistance of IVs and EVs. Incase you were wondering, IV means "Individual Value".

About 100 hours of game play, and a lame Tentacool shiny. I was just for fun trying to go to Slateport beach and found a Shiny Tentacool. At least it's better than those annoying ones that keeps using you know....

OK, I've been to that site before and I didn't know what it was talking about. Before I can calculate my IV's, I need to know what Effort Points are. :) I've only had R&S since the 17th. :)

This shining hunting thing sounds cool, heres some of the ones ive found:

Shining Latios
Shining Tentacruel
Shining Wailord
Shining Latias
Shining Kyogre [PINK!!! HES PINK!!!]

But, id say, my favorite find of all:
SHINING WYRMPULE!

anyway, Effort points can increase your stats very gradually; you get 1-3 of them per fight.

This is how we get effort points.

Fight* and win in a battle > 1-3 depending on the pokemon

Fight* and win in a battle while holding macho badge > 1-3*2 depending on pokemon

*- the pokemon doesn't have to knock it out, it just has to have participated. Also, experience share gives the pokemon thats holding it the same amount; it doesn't split it like it does experience.

Rare candies = Nono if you are trying to get good Effort points. Because it wastes levels, it gives you less oppertunities.
Once your effort points reach 510, you can get the Effort ribbon. This will lock your Effort Value in place, making rare candies safe.

I caught a Shining Wingull - it has Green bands on it's wings instead of Blue ones. I haven't let it evolve, though.
I stashed it with the LatiOs I caught in Sapphire (Yes, Latios. I got it via the EonTicket). Haven't got LatiAs yet. The darn thing is still running about Hoenn laughing at me. :-)

Guardian TM, Latias taunted me for 62 hours. And i also got Latios from eon tocket (those things are everywhere in japan).

Arthas_zero, shining pokemon are hard to catch; don't feel bad if you can't find them. Also, shining gyra is awesome.

The wild Lati@s can be hard to catch, if you had little experience with G/S/C. I believe the dogs were harder to catch. I caught my Latios 3 hours after first seeing it.

Oh yeah, one more thing. For all you Nintendo Power Subscribers out there, you might remember the Coluseeum section they had (now if they only bring that back). Remember the one colussem where some girl have a 6 Mewtwo party? if yes, remember that they mentioned that one of them was a Shining Mewtwo? My only question is how long it would possibly take to get a shining mewtwo.

I don't even see how that's possible without sharking. Mewtwo has not been catchable in any version with Shining Pokemon.

She caught the Mewtwo is R/B/Y. It turned out that when she traded it to G/S/C it was shiny. This is completely possible.

yeah; in R/B/Y a gender number is not generated. To get a coloured mewtwo your odds are some 1/656.

Also, Suicine and Entei I have coloured. No such luck with Raikou.

Seeing as this is a hunting community, i think ill start the hunt.

Normal Bagons are found in a small cave within Meteor Falls. You have to have Waterfall and Surf to get there. I assume Shiny Bagon would be found there, too.

Well, these are some things that make for an easier shiny: (examples in brackets)
-Pokemon that can only be found in one area (bagon)
-Legendaries that u only get one of (Regis)
-Starter Pokemon (Mudkip)
-Feebass

By far the hardest pokemon to catch shiny is latias/latios.

Fawkes, Duskull is a pokemon that only appears in a small amount of areas, so finding a shiny of it isnt too hard. *I have never sharked*

Alex, as far as where to start, find a Pokemon you like, and go for it. Search to your hearts content. I am currently in possesion of 2 RuSa shiney Pokemon, a Whismur and Numel, which are now fully evolved Exploud and Camarupt.

As far as Cradily goes, you can try saving right before you pick up your Cradily. Each time you reset you get another chance at it. Or you can just hatch eggs for it. Either way will be time consuming. I reset my Ruby game for over 6 hours and never got a shiney Mudkip. I temperarily gave up, but will go back once I have a new round of TMs from Ruby and reset again.

I am currently hoping to run into a shiney Sableye. Once I get there in Ruby, I will also try my best at a shiney Beldum, it looks so sweet..... Any shineys that get in my way will be caught as well....

Spectreon, shiny pokémon always come in 4-6 different variations; the one i'm in posession of happens to be in lime green. But yes, there is a red variant as well.

Question about Breeding.

for Ru/Sa, lets say you breed two pokemon. as soon as you recieve the egg, is it automatically determined to be shiny or not, or is it determined the moment it hatches? (like would I be able to keep resetting and hatching the same egg in hopes of getting a shiny)


And as for G/S/C, I was told that if you breed 2 shiny pokemon in that set of games, you can get a shiny baby. Is that true?

Shiney Beldum is Silver ,It ends up being mostly Silver with a gold X on it. Basically everything that is Blue is Silver, everything that is silver is Gold, on all 3 evolutions.

As far as breeding goes, In RuSa I assume it is all predetermined from when you pick up the egg. Everthing else is, Stats, Nature, IV's, so I assume shineyness is too

In GSC, if you mate 2 Shiney Pokemon together from the same egg group, you will ALWAYS get the brimming with energy message. 2 Shineys will NOT mate. But if you mate 1 shiney with a non shiney, the odds of a shiney egg are like 1:64. Thats how I got most of my GSC Shineys. I have about 160 different shiney Pokemon in GSC, mostly through Ditto trick and breeding. I did run into and catch a Ledyba and a Drowzee though.

Hey Kyfogre22, exactly how is it you manage to find shineys? How long do you usually search, what method do you use ect..... I have been fortunate to run across 2 shineys in RuSa, but never while actually searching for one.....

Hunting for a shiney starts with some research. Usually, i look for the following criteria.
1) does it swarm? What are the chances of finding it if it doesn't?
2) is it common?
From that criteria, i narrow it down to one area, then i find out this.
1) are there other common pokémon in the area?
2) is it rare or uncommon in this area?
3) is this area higher then level 40?
I try to aim for an area that is all level 40+, where the pokemon is common, and where there are no other common pokemon in that area. Well, in the case of karpy, i just used my old rod :)

It takes anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours to find a common shiney (karp) and two+ hours to find a rare one (spoink, chimecho).

well, if you are trying to get the shiny versions of the starters and the OPG pokémon, the best way is to save in front of it and then reload until you get it. Chances are it WILL take you awhile, but its worth it, if only for the purpose of collecting it.

you can breed an egg in RuSa, I know that for a fact, a friend did it.... odds are no greater or worse than runing into a wild one, as far as colors go, I have no clue... the sight I have seen shineys on, every shiney I have seen or heard of matched that sight. I wont agree or disagree as far as multi coloring, beyond reg, and 1 shiney.... I dont have proof either way....

In RuSa the odds of a shiney egg (whether you have a shiney parent or not) is the exact same as if you were to run into a wild Pokemon.

I personally have seen several different variations of shinies. My friend kicked my *** with his @_@. Normally, Shiny Charizard is black, but he kicked my *** with a silver one. Also but-whooped by a pink pidgeot and blue raichu.

What i usually like to do with shinies that have a way of running is to use wobbley against them. hes hard to weaken with, but it counters one of the most fustrating aspects of catching shinies.

Personally, I don't care how many variations of shinies there are - it's going to be almost impossible to catch one set, much less 2 sets of shinies, plus filling your pokedex with all the NON-shinies.

If there's one set, then so be it. If there's two sets, then that's cool too. Let's not divide the forum on such a petty issue.

(btw, Kyfogre, do you really need to be so condescending? Also, as someone who _doesn't_ use Unown Font in their sig, hearing you mention that you might send an entire message in Unowns is kinda silly - maybe even quite childish?)

Ok, this every once in a blue moon, run into a shiney is starting to suck. I am like 445 hours + in saphire, and constantly sticking to wild pokemon areas, and still only have my Numel (Saphire, 10 hours into game, now a Camarupt) and my Whismur (Ruby, just under 90 hours logged, now on Saphire and evolved to Exploud). 2 Shineys in roughly 100 hours, but almost 400 hours later and not another one to be seen.... grrrrr........ seeing if I can get into cave for Glalie......

Pure dumb luck. There isnt a trick to catching shineys, it is all randomized. The only "easy" way is on the Pokemon you get once per game. You can save before recieving/battling it. Just reset over and over (and over and over and over...) until it is shiney.

And Swampert, I liked Shiney Zubat and Golbat. They are sweet looking, they are green, with pink/purple on the insides of there wings. Then it evolved to Crobat... ugggg... nice pretty pinkish purple Crobat....... uggg

in order to shiny-catch, all you have to do is stash a few masterballs. thats the only way. i usually keep around 20 with me in ru/sa, and 50 in g/s. g/s/c shiny hunting is easy. do the blue ditto trick, and breed it with the pokemon you want to be shiny, 64 eggs or so later, voila!. ru/sa is hard, ive only caught 5 in my many hours of playing. but then again, im a big fan of repel.

you need a r/b/y and g/s/c cartridge. get shiny gyarados, trade to r/b/y, and let ditto transform into it. then catch the ditto. it takes on gyarados's ivs and thus becomes shiny. and its blue shiny.

I believe you have to give red Gyarados Mimic only, you Mimic, it Transforms, something like that, then catch it, trade it back, Shiney blue Ditto... Just to add to above post.

oh man I cant stand this..... several hundred hours searching, nothing

a few minutes of trying to run through an area, 2 shineys.. what gives. I screwed up my EV training on a Pokemon because while trying to learn its IV's for HP purposes, I stumbled into my Shiney Whismur. My Numel was just on my first trip through Jagged Pass.

that was 450+ hours ago since I ran into a shiney. I find myself in 1 area in preticular, battling with a Pokemon, and Item Farming hoping to run into 1 of 4 shineys on Saphire. The area just south of Fallbarror (SP?). there are only Seviper, Swablu, and Lotad/Lombre. Same on Ruby, cept it is Seedot/Nuzzleaf and Zangoose with Swablu.

I am trying to get an all shiney normal type team.... I only have Exploud now. Need Altaria, Zangoose, and some others, plus I have a friend who would kill for a Shiney Lotad line.... Seviper just lloks cool, and Seedot, eh, I would take it.... have spent well over 200 hours in this area alone, hoping, and nothing.....

Yeah, Deoxys has the ability to change its form, so Nintendo decided to give it 3 different forms, 1 for each game. Also looked like according to Serebii that dependent on which version, FR or LG, you caught it in is dependant on which stats are higher. If I recall correctly

In FR, the tentacal arm one, Speed, Attack, Special Attack are higher

In LG, the armored shell one, HP, Defense, Special Defense are higher.

The version may be flip flopped, to lazy to go back and check, but the way it looks compared to stats is correct, at least the way I interpretted it.... now that is interesting....

But, id say, my favorite find of all:

anyway, Effort points can increase your stats very gradually; you get 1-3 of them per fight.

This is how we get effort points.

Fight* and win in a battle > 1-3 depending on the pokemon

Fight* and win in a battle while holding macho badge > 1-3*2 depending on pokemon

*- the pokemon doesn't have to knock it out, it just has to have participated. Also, experience share gives the pokemon thats holding it the same amount; it doesn't split it like it does experience.

Rare candies = Nono if you are trying to get good Effort points. Because it wastes levels, it gives you less oppertunities.
Once your effort points reach 510, you can get the Effort ribbon. This will lock your Effort Value in place, making rare candies safe.

Lunaton eand Solrock are in the cave they are always in (Meteor Falls???), but are limited to each game.... Luna in Saph, Solr in Ruby... Basically a shiney is found anywhere the normal is found. So if you want a specific shiney, hunt in the area where they show up.....

its Possible, but you are just as likely to run into a wild one as hatching it... If you really want a Shiney Banette, my best suggestion is to play Saphire, and hang out on the first few floors of Mt Pyre... You would run into 20x more Shuppets than you could hatch since they are the only Pokemon you encounter, unless you are dead set on egg moves... just dont hold your breath!!!

shiney pokemon are pokemon that are alternate colors, or colors that they normally arent... like Ditto is Blue instead of Pink, or Groudon is Gold instead of red.... It is a rare occasion that happens in both the GSC series, and in the RuSa series. Occasionally a wild Pokemon will pop up, with a sparkle around it, and be an alternate color... If you see it, catch it, they are very rare....

Don't bother looking for shinies, they are far to rare to bother. Its totally random, your chances are above 1/1,000,000,000. I found a shiny spinda a few days ago and caught it though(finally, after 900+ hours between RS and GS I finally find a shiny).

Yay... FYI Shineys are most defenitely in FRLG.... upon hours of searching the Safari Zone for a Chansey... still havent caught one of those though... I ran into a shiney blue Nidoran male... the sparkle seemed a little different, it didtn go around the Pokemon, it shot from the Pokemon falling to the ground... luckily I caught it.... Stupid Safari Zone.... well, off to find/catch Chansey...

Safari balls make catching Pokemon seem much more harder that usual.

Unfurtanately it works like a Pokeball... the biggest difference is you lose the ability to cause/inflict status and lower HP tp make it easier... You can throw rocks/food, but Chansey generally run from food, and somethimes rocks.... They dont generally stick around long, though I was lucky to get 1 to stay for about 9 or 10 turns, but even still, it didnt stay in the Safari Ball.....

But on that note, I got Nidoran with only 1 Safari Ball, without food/rocks....

Shineys caught (not counting hatched GSC) by me....

Drowzee- Silver
Numel- Saphire
Whismur- Ruby
Nidoran male- Fire Red (Japanese of course)

that doesnt count the numerus Pokemon I hatched, or the Ditto I got by doing Gyarados trick in RBY, nor does it include the Red Gyarados you receive every game in GSC. 5 shinies is a pretty good catch, but note this was in 1500+ hours of GSC, and 800+ hours of RuSa and FR... so 5 in over 2300 hours.... man I need a life...

FYI on FRLG, when you are veiwing the Pokemon that is shiney, or you suspect is shiney, the box that the Pokemon is in on the staus screen (stats, moves, nature, ect..), it has a star in the upper right hand corner.

My friends have a pink lioone, an orange pikachu(in the safari zone) a green koffing, and a black charizard. right now I am attempting to get a purple mudkip through breeding. (twenty-four eggs!!!)

I think there are two forms of shinys. a bright shiny and a dark shiny like a regice can be ice blue (normal) blue (bright shiny) or black (dark shiny)

FYI on FRLG, when you are veiwing the Pokemon that is shiney, or you suspect is shiney, the box that the Pokemon is in on the staus screen (stats, moves, nature, ect..), it has a star in the upper right hand corner.

Gimme a code that lets me see/catch shiny pkmn for gameshark on Crystal, Gold, Silver, Red, Blue and Yellow. Thanks

oh geese, I havent used GSC game shark codes in forever... it requires a couple of different codes.... on allows to run into any Pokemon, the other makes every wild encounter a Shiney... surf around on the net for them, shouldnt be hard to find... If I find them I will PM you with them...

I restarted my red version and caught a mew that I think is shiny because all the other mews I raised to level 100 hade 343 or more HP bot this one has 322 HP.Iwont find out untill I trade it to GSC
