Looks like the codes are unique.

Soon booster packs for Black & White will be available in stores and some of them have codes that grant users access to the closed beta for the multi-player version of the Pokémon TCG Online.

Every single pack opened by my family at 2 PRs had a code in it.

That's 40 packs, 40 codes. Ok that doesn't prove that every one will have it, but I didn't see anyone not get a code.

Believe me or not, your choice.

For anyone who is interested, here is a scan of the front and back (http://www.flickr.com/photos/45652011@N07/5640980951/).

Yeah go ahead, the first one to enter it gets to steal my code.

that is for the beta.

In the case of the UK all the beta boosters were sent to pre-release organisers. Every pack in every box has the extra card with the beta access code.

I was told that this was part of the one and only beta print run and the one and only shipment of beta boosters into the UK. Normal retail boosters will not have the extra card.

Come September when the online game goes live for everyone I expect all boosters to have a code card. But I have not been told anything official so take it as a guess. My guess is that all boosters for B&W2 will have a code card.

You guys are misinterpreting the statement completely.

Soon booster packs for Black & White will be available in stores and some of them have codes* that grant users access to the closed beta for the multi-player version of the Pokémon TCG Online.*specially marked booster packs.Obviously every one of your boosters had codes Baby Mario. You bought a "specially marked" coded booster box!

What will likely happen is that Nintendo will release some booster packs with codes and some without codes. The ones with codes will be more expensive than the ones without.

I would not pay more than a $1 premium for a coded booster over an ordinary booster.

Question for those that did: Does the online pack match the contents of the pack that they were in?

NoPoke

I'll eat my hat if the online code matches the contents of the booster.

I expect the code to open a random virtual booster from the same set. I'd like for the random virtual booster to be drawn from your very own virtual box and then case rather than just a random booster that is similar to a real booster.

For anyone who wonders why this matters then search for the "Coupon Collector Problem". With the recent outbreak of stats and math on the gym this math would apply to random virtual boosters.

'Each booster pack contains 1 code card. This card gives you preview access to the Pokemon TCG online'.

All the boxes I got had the code it in. My question is once the game actually gets out of beta, if I put in one of the "beta cards" will I get a booster pack or will I just get a response that tells me that I can't use the card anymore even if the card hasn't been used yet?

NoPoke

Tthe intention is that the beta codes will unlock a pack for the beta test and that the codes will still have value once the beta is completed.

If the beta needs to be reset then the used beta codes will all be reset to available and can be reentered. Which means that you may get something really good in the reset pack or may get something worse. But then it is a beta release to test the online game so that is to be expected.

Each code = one pack, as it is a beta there is no guarantee that you keep exactly what you unlock only that you will get to keep one pack for each code.

If you enlarge the picture it states that there is a card included for each pack for the TCG Online. I pre-ordered a box from the site last week, I am unsure if the ones I pre-ordered will contain the code. I'll let you guys know when I receive it.

Question for those that did: Does the online pack match the contents of the pack that they were in?

The codes are released only in specially marked booster boxes. From what I have seen (and given the
cards opened), they are NOT in the tins (Reshiram and Zekrom), special boxes (Victini) or peg packs.

The shrink wrap on the boxes references the code info on it, as does the boxes themselves. However,
not every booster box appears to have it. However, every pack in the specially marked boxes has the
code.

The code does NOT unlock the identical pack. It unlocks a virtual pack you can choose
from the HG-SS series of sets, as well as the B&W set.

Pokepop, this forum does not allow for pictures to be attached, but I put up pictures of the selection
screen and the sample B&W pack I opened (for which I was quite happy) on the Pokemon OP forum.

In addition, I have seen a number of boxes listed on EBay that are selling the boxes with the codes.

Do we know that if these codes are for beta only and will reset once the game goes live?

From what I've read around different places, the cards you get in the beta will be wiped when the beta ends, but you'll get an equivalent number of packs to the number of codes you've entered at that time. I don't know if you'll get the extra packs for participating in the beta or if there will be any other perks associated with participating.

JohnnyBlaze
04/28/2011, 10:36 AM
So theoretically could you save these code cards and use them once the online game goes live? Or do you have to use these cards during Beta to get those extra effects after the wipe?

espeon200
04/28/2011, 10:39 AM
That I have no idea about. The post on pokemontcg.com (http://www.pokemontcg.com/forums/announcements/topics/booster-pack-code-redemption-and-tcg-online-closed-beta-april-26-2011) doesn't say, and nothing I've read anywhere else says so. I'd be willing to bet they work afterwards. I think it's the prototype for how TPCi is going to handle the online game here in the future. They release some packs with codes and others without. I'm thinking the packs with codes may sell for a premium amount, though that is nothing but speculation at this point.

sdrawkcab

Johnny from my understanding, once the wipe occurs you will lose your entire collection, however your account will be credited with new packs equivilant to the amount you have already redeemed.

I was disappointed in the 15-odd boosters I got after putting in codes. Most was just garbage, and I found out real quickly why I buy singles online. It's hard to form decent evolution lines and get multiples of cards without buying singles (or trading).

Trading in beta seems iffy. Why put so much effort to trade when your collection is going to get wiped and reset when it goes live?

It would be nice, if for the beta version only, all the cards were available so it could be properly tested. It's hard to test when you can't even build a half way decent deck.

For those complaining, you have been invited into a closed beta with prior knowledge of database wipes. You are not expected to build up a tier 1 deck and be playing competitive pokemon. You are expected to build what you can with what you have to test the game and find bugs and issues and have suggestions to make the game as best it can be.

Entered my box worth of codes last night. The deck builder is working but I can;t get matches to come up. lots of sorting options which are great. The pulls did kind of suck, I have 2 pieces of deo/ray bottom but no top, and a couple other legend pieces. Like above I pulled like 4 ampharos prime?! and the evo lines are kind of wonky. But i built a mewtrick deck. It will let you max out cards you don;t have but without the ability to make matches I can;t tell if you can build a deck with "proxies" or not.

edit: Just found out the answer. You can build lists but not play a deck you don'tt own cards for. bummer

Yes, but if we can't access most of the cards in order to build the types of decks the system is going to have to handle running bug free, how can that be considered a "good" beta test of anything?

why are you posting questions like that here, instead on in the online beta forums where they can be seen and handled by the people running the beta?

the OP and TCG online staff are completely different, and as far as i know NO ONE from TCG online reads or posts to the 'gym...so the ONLY way to get online TCG issues to the people who can actually do something about them is to follow the closed beta instructions and open a support ticket/post to the online tcg forums.
