Is it wrong that you don't want to play in your own state, cause you dont like the store?
Dude, don't worry about it, you got me, Jacy and Zach to hang out with, man this is going to be awesome, but i must say, i will not try to win 2 states for the life of me.

BoDragon

Along with Team Dragon, I look forward to playing down in Columbia again. I should have enough time to figure out which deck to play once EX Deoxys is out.

Less than 4 weeks to go and 90+ now pre-registered!!!

Wow, that is incredible. Even if some of those do not attend, this is going to be the largest turnout for a Premier Event anywhere in South Carolina yet. I do understand there will be some players from out of state, so I look forward to seeing them. If we have a vast turnout of players from within the state, that is a good sign more players are playing Pokémon.

A great way to prepare for South Carolina's States is coming to our leagues in Greenville (Books-a-Million #418) and/or Columbia (Fine Art of Baseball).

See you don't understand guys, because you are all Warcraft noobies. Thats right I said it. I'll admit it, I'm a Pally Fanboy, but Paladins have speed, and consistency something that Jacy's new deck from North Dakota States (Vibrava/Electabuzz EX? I had to look twice at the signature when I saw this) doesn't have, nuff said. Nahh just kidding, Paladins don't suck that much because they resurrect and that pwnz ME.

Alright Jeff,

I just heard from Sensei. I will be judging in the Virginia State Championship. Therefore, I am competing in the South Carolina State Championship. Sorry, but when it came to playing in VA or SC, I'm gonna go where the waters are uncharted. Tough decision though.

Like my signature says, everyone better get ready.

Jim Ferrell
03/21/2005, 05:38 AM
Well, I WAS going to do a State Report, but I've already done two. So :P

The event was seriously awesome. It was great finally getting to play in South Carolina and test myself against the big players down there. Patrick, it was especially nice getting to play you after hearing so much good stuff about you man.

Matt, it's always nice to see you. :) Good game Round 2. You had me, you really did.

Yeah, I dunno how I lose in Top 8 after going undefeated all day. I think I gave up 2 prizes the whole day, both of those to Matt Riddle. I keep telling people that Slaking is a viable choice. People just do not want to either listen or believe me. But after beating 2 Rock Lock, 1 Dark Amphy/Hypno, 1 Blaziken, and 1 ZapturnDos, and giving up 2 prizes all day, I think I've proven it's worth. I'm a combined 12-1 with it in State play, the only loss being to Ben Thompson.

Props to Ben Thompson. Even though we really never had a good game in Top 8, I tried. :) And hey, turn threeing someone in game three is all about how the game goes sometimes. I was gonna do the same thing to you next turn! Besides, anyone who can beat me, instantly earns my respect.

Again, great event. Dunno who won, but I'm hoping it was Dave M!

~Jim

03/21/2005, 06:17 AM
I did slightly okay, but things could have gone better as usual. I lost my first game, won the next three including one against Prime, and concluded with a loss to slicknscc finishing the event at 3-2.

Jim, it was great meeting you and several others.

It was great seeing Team Dragon in action, both new members who joined yesterday and current members who had a great time.

Adv1sor
03/21/2005, 06:30 AM
So, who won?

Jim Ferrell
03/21/2005, 06:50 AM
Also please note,

Since I had already one a State Championship, I thought about it for awhile prior and during the tournament, especially after making Top 8, had I made it to the finals, I would have given my opponent the win. Wasting $300 to stoke one's ego with another trophy really is a travesty.

Please, this is in general, just an observation from both days in VA and SC, PLEASE those of you who meet me and are members of this board, STOP treating me like I am some sort of unbeatable, godly player. I'm just someone who enjoys competition, who's playing like everyone else. I do not need the extra attention, really. I go to these events to meet new people, hang out with old friends, and mabye whip a little butt. Please just think of me as a friend, not someone to be afraid of.

Oh, also, when I got my State pin at registration, I was given a National pin by mistake. I thought it was a nice little trophy in itself. :)

Humbly yours,

~Jim

Prime
03/21/2005, 08:36 AM
That was a great pin too!

I hope everyone has a good spring break, other than Jacy and Patrick who doesn't have spring break until next week, lol. Jim, it was a honor to play you. I never had gotten the opportunity before.

Sorry Jim, if I sounded like I was treating you like a god player or something.

Congratulations to Dave Messinger.

After the whole Maryland stink that Michael R and everyone raised about a fellow Ohioan named Stephen D for winning a second State Championship, I would think that he would now be ashamed.

I just want to say that if the reason that Michael R played in the 11-14 was reflected upon my decision to compete in the Top 8, then that's pretty frickin' lame. Like I said in my earlier post, I didn't intend to waste $300 to stoke my ego. Especially after I voiced my opinions on Chuck's post.

I had no intention of JUDGING the whole frickin' weekend. I judged in Virginia Saturday, and played a ROGUE deck yesterday. I cannot help that my deck went 5-0 in Swiss. If there was direct reprocussions for my playing to play, then fine. But I would think that after all of the pressure and anger directed towards Stephen Davis, that Michael Reynolds is now a hypocrite.

I'm calling it how I see it. I debated for a long time on what the right thing to myself and the other players. I didn't want to step on any toes, or cause waves amongst my Southern friends. But this post I know will, and I'm not posting this out of anger, just disgust. Jeff, if you hold this against me, than so be it.

~Jim

Edit: Per request, I did take away the minor players' last names.

Stephen Davis now has 4 State Championships under his belt. I failed to keep up with my DISAPOINTING 2nd in Indiana (Yes, 2nd place sickens me, although most Pokemon players will never make it to the finals in their life.) THANKS A LOT MATT TENNIS-GETTER! BTW Serena is hotter than Venus and Gymbo is hotter than Carmella.

Jim based on what you said on Saturday you evidently are more concerned about how Sensei would feel about you than me. Thus the reason you wanted to judge on Sat in VA and play in SC. That also sounds hypocritical too!!! I understand your feelings but I talked to Michael after the MD event and told him he owed Stephen an apology because Stephen did nothing wrong with deciding to play. Michael did IM Stephen and apologized how he acted. SO feel free to flame Michael all YOU want!!! Also please DO NOT post Michael's last name...especially since this is against board RULES!!!!

Jeff,

First of all, the whole "where I wanted to play" aspect was thought out and discussed long before this weekend. I had never competed in South Carolina. I've won in Virginia TWICE already. Why do I have to prove myself there? Besides, I didn't want to compete both days, nor did I want to compete both days.

I was teasing you about Sensei. True, I did know Sensei would mind about previous State Champs from competing, and probably say something. He's done it before. You told me you had enough judges. So what do you want me to do? Sit around all day?

All and all, the reaction from Mike getting mad about someone doing what he later did himself isn't very cool. I mean, like I said, it's different how others win several. But they don't condemn it, then do it themselves.

I will apologize for my tone, I was harsh. I also apologize for using the last names of the minor players. I didn't think about it. I edited my previous post.

Jeff, I respect you and your family immensely. You do a lot of good work down here, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate it. I'm just surprised that this was allowed to take place, especially since I defended Michael from the nasty comments from the Ohioans he angered by his display. Also, I asked him myself if he was going to win a second one before I came down this weekend and he told me he wouldn't be allowed.

Other than this whole debacle, the tournament was very well run and the day was very fun.

Hey, tell us more about Ben T. He's a good player and a nice guy who hasn't really won as many big tourneys as he probably should have.

And I'm glad to see Dave Messinger win one for the old guys.

As far as the whole multiple States thing goes, I've got 2 things to say about it.

One, Michael is a good guy and people get caught up in the heat of the moment. He apologized and deserves a break.

Two, why does Nintendo let this situation even exist? WoTC was very explicit - if you win a Gym, you cannot compete in another. None of this passing down of prizes or any of that nonsense. If you won, there is no reason to even compete to affect the outcome of another tournament.

Pokemon USA should take a seriously hard look at this. As this game stands right now, there is a ridiculous amount of ego and greed driving players. If Nintendo is serious about this "spirit of the game (TM)" the FIRST thing they should do for the upcoming Regionals is institute a policy that if you win a Regional, you cannot compete in any other.

If they don't, their SoTG is nothing more than a joke.

It should have happened prior to Cities. Like the man said, more winners = better for the game.

FWIW, WotC didn't start with the "no play if you win" policy. There were some SERIOUS feuds between groups of players because they were winning multiple events in the STS days. WotC saw what this was doing to the player base and changed it so that once you win, you're done. We're reinventing the wheel here.

Gymbo, if you made top two, would you really have handed over the win? I doubt it. You were there to win.

Even though I won KY yesterday, and am attempting to volunteer to judge in VA, I WILL be competing to win in South Carolina simply because I've never, ever played in SC before.

But when it's over with (and you didn't get first) you now say that you would have stepped down? Pfft, gimme a break.

For the record, the reason Mike decided to play in the top eight was because of Patrick, Zach, and myself. Michael was going to give the win to Zach in T4 originally (maybe feeling pressure from Patrick and me), but things didn't work out that way. Mike advanced, and is now standing in Steven's shoes and has a chance to win the tournament. Being a great friend of Mike's, I know that he's very competitive... and saying "I lose" without even playing the game can be a difficult thing to do. Lots of pressure was on him, so he made a decision--to play it out. And he won.

:clap:Congrats Michael!!!

I can say now that I would give up the win, if it were me... but its a lot easier to SAY than it is do DO. If I were in his shoes WOULD I have made the same decision? Who knows?

***** ABOUT IT IF YOU WANT... but it's finished. Leave it.

<3 Peace out <3

Well, I didn't want to say anything about this, but I will say that Mike is human... and humans make decisons and just because someone doesn't agree with it, doesn't mean its wrong... it doesn't mean it's right either...

This is going to be my last post in an attempt to tie some loose ends together. I have already opted to contact the parties involved and apologize to them personally.

First of all, I wasn't going to go public, but I decided to after reading later posts. Jacy, up until the tournament, and even after the Top 8 cut, I hadn't decided what I was going to do. Part of me posting on this thread about winning the Championship was just blowing some smoke up the SC players' skirts. I'll be honest, I was messing around. And it makes me look like an ***, but hey, everyone makes mistakes. Those in the Top 8, any of them were deserving of winning, whether it been Dave M, Ben T, Steph B, or even Patrick W, and if I had made the finals with any of them, I'd dropped. I honestly mean that.

Do you really think that I would eliminate someone like Stephanie, or even Dave Messinger? My point not to drop was driven by the fact that I was 5-0 with a Rogue deck. A ROGUE deck. I wanted to see how far I could get with it. That's all. Especially after getting crap all the time about how it sucks.

I do not hate Mike R at all. He's not the only one who's won two. I mean he had the choice, as does everyone else. My first posts were over the line, looking back, I realize that now. And I've apologized. I felt as of my loyalty to Mike was betrayed after defending him from some very uncolorful comments that some Ohioans back home direct towards he and his family. That's what set me off.

Therefore, I am leaving this alone. This does not warrant uneeded attention. If there are continued problems, please, direct them to my AIM handle: Gymbo4Ever, and away from the board.

To those whom I've offended, I sincerely apologize.

~Jim

Anyway, the SC SC is over and done... thanks for the wonderful event, Jeff! And congrats to the winners!

Congrats to all the winners! Knowing Michael and his family, he is a good young man who made the choice to play, which was within the rules. Not having met Jim F. First off please don't hijack this post about opinions on multiple winners, what was/has been done for multiple winners...there is another thread for that. Also thanks to Jim F. for his apology and I would ask that you only continue posting to this thread if it is about the event itself or to congratulate the winners (not to complain about someone winning multiple states or playing after winning a multiple state...once again there is a thread for that). Okay onwards and upwards...

I would like to thank everyone who came and played. We had a total of 90 players (compared to about 45 last year)!!! Thanks to all those out of staters for attending (we had players from OH, NC, VA, & GA). Also a BIG THANKS to the judges Greg D, Jacob B, and Javier S. for all their help in judging this event!!! A BIG THANKS to my wife for all her help with this event!!! There is no way this could have been pulled off without all of your help!!!!!! See below for final standings, pictures (coming soon), and winners. I would also like to give a HUGE KUDOS and Great Sportsmanship to Tess D. for conceding to Tad M to give him the 10- win since she had won a previous one!!!
