It appears all NA Nats have been uploaded and Congrats to Top 40 Masters in NA, especially the T4 who earned paid trips.
My son squeaked in as #40 going 9-2 at US Nats. The question that I have is he changed his email address and no longer receives emails from Pokemon. If you earned a T40 invite is Pokemon going to send an email? Who should I contact? Thanks.

Yes I meant T4 at US NATS. But that would be cool if T4 Ratings earned trips too
When he attempts to log into his account it says that it needs to be activated and to click on the activation email. Thats the problem he no longer has that email account from years past and has his own email account. So clicking on the activation link will be useless since he does not have the old email anymore.

Actually it's probably better to go to support.pokemon.com and use the form there to allert tech support of the problem.

I should probably know this question, but I can't seem to remember...how do they contact you about it? If memory serves, it's just a letter in the mail, right?

You should be able to change his email without the direct assistance of TPC web staff. After logging in go to your profile, there should be a tab called "edit profile". There should be a space where you can enter the new email address. Take extreme care to enter the correct address because once you confirm changes the account will be locked out, and a new authentication email will be sent to the new address only. Until you respond to this email. You will not be able to log in again.
Also I receommend you immediately check to make sure the account is set to receive awards from Pokemon, make sure you authorize pokemon to contact you in order to insure you receive the invite.

Sorry their is no tab as My Profile, it just shows the log in tab. when an account needs activation you are stuck in Step 2 "Awaiting Activation" So you cant even get that far into the screen.

Well I'm no expert at all, but I think you might have to go to the My Profile thing from your own account, not your son's if he's under 18. But don't hold me to this; I just know there are some things only the parents can change.

That is a possiblity I have not considered. Since I do not have kids I cannot speak to that level. However I thought age restricted access was to those under the age of 13.

40 Brent Siebenkittel Master Mississippi, United States 1845.00
41 Nick Chimento Master New York, United States 1844.44
Ok how does this happen? My son was #40 yesterday but gets passed by .56 of a point? I know Brent and nothing agaisnt him.
My son was finally able to log into his Pokemon account and we looked at his match history and it appears that all the matchs were correct. He thought he was ok for Worlds and not play in the Grinder, now he is just crushed. when do these rankings become final? I mean he has moved from 39 to 40 now to 41 in a couple of days. Did I say how crushed he is that he now has to Grinder in?

Someone has to come 41st. Did your son go to nats?
You shouldn't have trusted them to be final. It'll be final when emails get sent out.

Yes he did go to US NATS and finished with a 9-2 record!!
Yeah someone has to come in 41st but I checked 3 days in a row and one day he was 39 then the next day 40 now today he is 41. How do these ratings keep on changing from day to day is my question?

unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can change a person's rating. one example would be if a correction was made to an uploaded tournament; there are oftentimes players who show up in the wrong age group due to upload errors (player used the wrong POP# when registering, TO made a typo when entering player info into TOM, etc.) or players who show up in the wrong age group due to a parent getting their junior's account mixed with theirs when creating their player account online.
i myself usually have the latter type of errors show up after i upload my tourneys, and i have to have OP correct the (for example) junior-who-shows-up-as-a-master. after that's corrected, then ratings are going to be re-run afterwards and all players involved with that player are going to have THEIR ratings adjusted as well...and so the ripple effect spreads.
hope this makes sense...

Same thing happened to me, except 28-29. I see that the person below me must have had some messups and P!P must have fixed them thus putting him ahead.
On my account it doesn't even register the few BRs I played in, or that I even played in MO States. If that ever gets corrected, I'm sure a few Senior ratings might be changed. Don't ever assume you get the invite (if you're around 35-40) until you get the email.

probably a good idea to contact P!P as a missing k=32 event can have a major impact

To the OP: I'm sorry to hear about your son dropping out of top cut over errors. 41st in NA is nothing to sneeze at, though. If he made it that far, I'm sure he'll do well at Worlds regardless (if you choose to go).

Expanding on what 'mom said using w/e easy numbers I can think of.
State Championship- KVAULE 32
At K value 32 a difference 20 ratings points would mean a 1 point difference at stake
Jimmy's Player information is entered in the Computer. His Birthday is correct in the computer however his Player ID does not match what pokemon.com thinks it is and the PTO doesn't discover this until after the tournament is over.
~This is what should happen~
Round 1 Timmy (1600.00) plays Jimmy (1680.00), Timmy wins.
If Timmy wins he gains (and Jimmy loses) 20 points because he is behind.
If Jimmy wins he gains (and Timmy loses) 12 points because he is ahead.
Timmy wins so he should gain 20 points.
Round 2 Timmy (1620.00) plays Kevin (1700.00), Timmy wins.
Timmy Wins, Gains 20
Round 3 Timmy (1640.00) plays Greg (1720.00), Timmy wins.
Timmy Wins, Gains 20
Round 4 Timmy (1660.00) plays Justin (1580.00), Timmy loses.
Timmy loses, loses 20. and drops at 1640.00
~This is what happens after the first upload before fixing errors.~
Round 1 Timmy (1600.00) plays Jimmy (1680.00), Timmy wins.
Timmy wins so he should gain 20 points, but doesnt because pokemon.com thinks he is in a different age group. Timmy stays at 1600
Round 2 Timmy (1600.00) plays Kevin (1700.00), Timmy wins.
Timmy Wins, Gains 21
Round 3 Timmy (1621.00) plays Greg (1720.00), Timmy wins.
Timmy Wins, Gains 20.xx
Round 4 Timmy (1641.xx) plays Justin (1580.00), Timmy loses.
Timmy loses, loses 19.xx. and drops at 1622.xx
Timmy goes home, checks his rating and sees that he gained 0 points from beating Jimmy. When Pokemon fixes it not only his rating is changed, everyone who he played (and all of his oppt's after playing jimmy (and all of oppts Kevin Played after Timmy (and thier opprts after playing Kevin)) (and all of Gregs oppts after playing Timmy) and so on, you get the picture. As sdpokemom said.... ripple effect. If timmy or any player goes to another tournament other players are affected, something like this may of happened with your son. the tipple effect follows. I always tell my league players to: play and have fun, dont worry about the ratings/rankings untill they announce ranking invites

So the T4 players at NATS that earned a Free trip and are already ranked in the T40 for invites are basically wasted. It really means the T36 get invites because face it if you make T4 at NATS and play about 13 games your ranking is going to be high enough to place in the T40 anyway.
Furthermore, players that won a Trip from last years worlds (Frankie Diaz) are already ranked in the T40 because of his 9-0 NATS performance, thats another wasted Rating invite since he is ranked 17th currently in T40 in NA.
So with no pass downs there are wasted invites is what Im trying to say.

Actually, all of the ratings invites for T8 at US Nats, T4 at Canadian Nats, T? at Worlds last year, and T? at Mexico Nats are wasted. I'd say that altogether it probably takes up a good 10 or so invites from the Top 40.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that each spot that isn't passed down or used is an additional spot given for Grinders.

^I really hope you're right, as somebody trying to grind in (I didn't play at all this season). However, I think I asked about that on a different forum and they told me there's almost always only 8 spots to be earned at the grinders. I could be wrong though (hoping I am).

There are only 8 guaranteed spots that have been announced in advance. Anything beyond that is a bonus. Check the Worlds FAQ on the TPCi website.

They are not wasted. POP wanted to avoid the hassle of passing down invites, when there were only 20 or 25 2 years ago? With all the passdowns, they calculated more or less always the 4th player in NA got an invite, so instead they allotted alot more invites and denied passdowns, essentially keeping the number the same but avoiding them a huge hassle in figuring out whose is getting passed down and whose isn't.
The invites have been more or less the same every year and Worlds is always tried to be made a 128 person tournament.

I can't see grinders invites in a SE format being anything other than a power of 2 because the SE format eliminates resistance (and thus a way to discriminate between 9-16, for example). So most likely it will be 8 invites, or if we're lucky, 16. I'd like to see more invites given away rather than fewer this year considering how big the grinder will be in SD.
