This will definitely make me consider picking one up. Probably once they start making nonremakes for it :P

Is there seriously anyone who DIDNT see this coming?

I called this day one, that the price wouldnt last and it would buckle under for a lower price. The ideas they have are sound, but most families just bought the DS/DSi/DSiXL that came out alongside the new Pokemon Games. The fact that there was a DSi specifically themed for the Pokemon games (I got the black version!) should've been a clear indication that this was a bad idea. Can't compete against yourself, Nintendo.:nonono:

This makes me want one more. The price is now pretty fair... but I still am following my 3 game rule. I wait to get a console unless there are 3 games that I want. So far, I have RE: Mercenaries. I already have 3 copies of OoT: why do I need a 4th? I have 2 copies of SF4. Otherwise, no other games are very interesting. $170 is fantastic, but I would rather save even more money by waiting longer. Sadly, no games coming out soon are very interesting IMO (Kid Icarus and Luigi's Mansion 2 are TBA). Sigh... so sad that this is what has come of Nintendo's newest handheld system. I want to enjoy a 3DS, but I just can't find enough games to enjoy to worthy a purchase.

Hmm, maybe when my DS Lite finally quits working...seriously the thing is over 4 years old, and despite the infamous hinge problem it still works (though I sometimes have to wiggle it a bit to get the top screen to work). I put a piece of paper in between the screen to hold it in place.

I kind of suspected they were having issues when Gamestop was doing that trade-in thing (got up to $150 off).

Buy now. The games for free are good. Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™ are some.

I'm waiting to see what the other 10 games are. Lots of those have been made several times over. I'm more interested in seeing what "other" games they toss our way. If a Square Enix game is in there, it might be worth the purchase...

Honestly not surprised, in fact I'm surprised they didn't cut the price sooner; that $250 price tag was utterly ridiculous and easily has to be the worse misstep Nintendo has made in quite a few many years (other than zero 3rd party support for Wii games, and allowing shovelware to litter it).

Also, the free games have to be pointless, unless you're literally a new/young gamer who wasn't around when those were released...not worth paying over $80 for the lot of them considering you can scour ebay/gamestop and probably buy them all for cheap.

You can't sell a 3DS for the price you purchased it at. No chance. You probably couldn't sell it for HALF that amount either.

Apparently Nintendo will no longer make money on each 3ds purchased, and employees are getting salary cuts.

I was going to buy a 3DS once more good games came out for it. This is just a plus for me :). Probably going to be a christmas present for me, as by then there will be Super Mario Land 3DS, Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 3DS and Paper Mario, with Luigi's Mansion 2 hopefully following suit soon after.

I dunno, I still don't see much of an urge to get a 3DS. I personally don't see any games I'd like to get in the near future and I know sooner or later they'll release new colors, include some kind of bundle (Kingdom Hearts 3D bundle please) or hopefully release a new model with a longer battery life. Regardless, it's a great move on Nintendo's side.

According to gaming websites - the GBA games (the ones i am most wanting) will not be out until later this year. Why must i wait for Metroid Fusion?

That's assuming the previous owner didn't register it right? You know, considering that maybe you should get some of the upcs off the used ones and run them through until one registers...

The free games are linked to the console, not the immediate serial #. And to qualify you just have to get onto the eshop channel and the console is registered.

the Serial #'s will not get you free games, the console connecting will.

Im wondering if you can buy one now, get the 20 free games and then see if Wal-Mart will refund you the differance once the price drops in two weeks on the one you bought. That way you can have cake and eat it too.

it is 20.

And in the notice nintendo sent out, the NES games will be available to Ambassadors Sept. 1st and then the public a while after.

The GBA games won't be available to Ambassadors until the end of this year, and never (according to them) for the general public.

I already have 3 copies of OoT: why do I need a 4th? I have 2 copies of SF4.

Are they portable and/or in 3D? Serious thing to consider: I don't have enough money to even think about buying anything right now, but as soon as the Game Boy Advance came out I realized that the style of games I cared the most about were now adequately functional on a handheld, and that handheld gaming was for me the superior experience. Playing whenever and wherever I could, as opposed to being tethered to a TV and having to dedicate important time (instead of filler time) to it and having a harder time dealing with interruptions.

T.T They would do this now... Last week I finally gave in and bought one. :< 20 games I probably won't play much =/= $80.

First, there are a handful of excellent, well known titles that unless you truly hated them, should be worth $4 a piece to have in portable form. Especially because there has been talk that they will have potential enhancements for the 3DS. Even if it just means multiplayer functionality between 3DS units, that's nice to me.

Second point is... think about it carefully: 20 games means that cost is $4 a piece. Even if you don't play them much, you're telling me you can't extract $4 worth of value from a game? The Legend of Zelda is worth playing over and over again, though with at least a few months between it. Sadly I didn't learn until the "no sword" run until I had to sell off my two copies of it.

OK guys, I'm thinking of buying a 3DS so I can get the games, but my question is, do I need to do something special to get them? This isn't quite clear to me. If I buy one I'd be ordering it online, and it would take a while to get to me, so would this be a problem?

My basic understanding is to get the price cut you have to register with your 3DS online with Nintendo's e-shop BEFORE the day of the price cut... like 11:59 PM EST the night before at the latest.

If you're ordering it online, I'd only do it if shipping is guaranteed fast and you know you'll make the deadline (or can return it if it arrives too late).

The price cut doesn't have to do with registering your 3DS before midnight. If you register on the eStore before Midnight Aug 11th, you get the 20 free games. You get the price cut if you buy the unit starting on Aug 12th from a store. So it is one or the other. Unless you find a store with a good price match policy.

Or its true that Wal-Mart is dropping the price early, which if it causes them to sell out their stock might be a stroke of genius.

If they sell out their stock and get plenty of attachments (that's where most stores make their money on electronics anyway) then it will be a stroke of genius.

Oh, and it has everything to do with the price cut: that's why the off exists and the official dates determine it, and Nintendo has even said that the Ambassador Program is basically a way to compensate early adopters of the system who paid full price. ;)

Thanks for the info. Hopefully my friend who is going to Worlds will be able to buy one for me since he arrives pretty early in San Diego, and find a hotspot to log in to the e-shop that very same day. Is that all that he needs to do? He doesn't have to register anywhere or anything? I really want those free games.

I just did it and that is all you need to do. Go into the eStore and that should auto register your system. To make sure you can go under news tab in the eStore and click on the Ambassador Program. It will them confirm that you are signed up for the program.

Eh, I'm not too worried. The 20 free nostalgic games sounds nice, but the hastle and necessity of a 3DS just doesn't add up for me. If it was redeemable for something brand new that nobody has seen or played yet, then maybe, but truth is I keep my old systems and if I wanted to play that list I'd just fire up an older system, lol.

They should be willing to show you the console before selling it, as it isn't a sealed product. As far as what's on the actual system, they're "Supposed" to wipe the memory before re-selling it..
