Chicagoland City Championships Marathon
This event is open to all players. We are using the Swiss pairing format, so you can play through each round and never be eliminated until the swiss rounds are over. City Championships are a great place to test your new deck strategies and bring your play skills to the next level! The top players of the City Championship are awarded prizes for the skills needed to do well in such a large event.
When preparing for a City Championship Tournament make sure you have a Deck that is ready to play in a competitive sanctioned tournament. To do this first check that your Deck complies with the current Modified Format Regulations (http://www.pokemon.com/assets/cms/pdf/op/tournaments/2011/Pokemon_Official_Tournament_Formats.pdf). After checking your cards are legal for play, you will then need to fill out a DECKLIST! (http://pokegym.net/decklist/decklist_lite.htm)
If you are using sleeves be sure they are all the same color and size. Damaged sleeves will NOT be allowed for this event. Shiny backs or printed backed sleeves will also not be allowed.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Leave yourself at least an additional 30 minutes every weekday morning to accommodate for Chicago area traffic. If it says, on google maps, you will be there in 20 minutes, you need to leave at least 50 minutes early!!! Do not be late, if you don’t want a round 1 loss.

If you are using sleeves be sure they are all the same color and size. Damaged sleeves will NOT be allowed for this event. Shiny backs or printed backed sleeves will also not be allowed.
Does this mean they want us to re-sleeve for every event?

Day 3.... 94 players
Cant wait to see what the weekend has in store for us.
This is really an exhausting stretch for all the staff involved. 10-12 hours daily then up an at it again the next day. I was not prepared for the amount of work and lack of sleep a marathon actually has.
I am really excited that all our players have been GREAT!!! Todays masters finals exemplified true spirit of the game. It really was and honor (and tiring ) to be a part of it.
I appreciate all the smiles and determination of our players. All of you truly are the best players in the gaming industry.

Anybody enjoy a good game of turn-based 7 card stud? Then you'll LOVE the 3rd game of the Masters Finals!
I'm uploading everything right now. Here's the list of the games I recorded...
Junior Top 4 VVV vs. Green.Dek (I really have no clue what this thing was, only that it was green through and through)
Junior Finals 6 Corners vs. Green.Dek
Masters Top 4 CaKE / Terrakion / Landorus vs. Zekrom / Tornadus / Eelektrik
Masters Finals Magnezone / Typhlosion / Reshiram vs. Zek/Torn/Eel
That final game was probably the silliest thing I've ever seen. Enjoy!

Finished 3-3 for the second day in a row. Ended up decking out to another dang Durant round one, then got beat by Andrew H. next round, then went 3-0 before getting destroyed by Jeremy A.'s Donphan/Dragons in the last round. I'm at the venue right now sticking around for Top Cut, and also because one of the top eight needs a ride home.
As far as I know, the top cut for Masters is the following. I don't know what decks these guys are running...
1. Adam Vernola
2. Andrew Temen w/ Durant
3. Jay Horung w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik
4. Josh Wittenkeller w/ Zone/Eel/Zekrom
5. Vince Blasko w/ Zekrom/Tornadus/Eel
6. Adam Bigott
7. Austin Reed w/ Zone/Eel/Thundurus
8. Jeffrey Hannah

Jay Horung beats Adam Bigott in top 8 in Oswego. Vince Blasko beats J-Wittz in three close games as well to move onto top 4. Austin vs. Andrew and Adam V. vs Jeff are still going on as far as I know.

Added a few of the top decks I knew of. I don't know all of them as you can see, and I know it is between either Andrew or Adam that is running Durant, although I'm pretty sure its Andrew who's running it.
Josh and Austin I know because I over seen them playing; Vince and Jay I know because I faced both of them, and they were my only losses today (With Jay, it was because he had the advantage of going first in the mirror; with Vince, I, for once, did not draw any basics nor supporters the first couple of turns).
For me, at least I ended up 4-2 at 11th place.

Now that all the info about the decks from yesterday have been put together, I might as well make a complete results list (both after swiss and after top 2)
Standings after Swiss:
1st: Adam Vernola w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Kyurem
2nd: Andrew Temen w/ Durant
3rd: Jay Hornung w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik
4th: Josh Wittenkeller w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Zekrom
5th: Vincent Blasko w/ Zekrom/Tornadus/Eelektrik
6th: Adam Bigott w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Thundurus/Zekrom
7th: Austin Reed w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Thundurus
8th: Jeffrey Hanna w/ Zekrom/Tornadus/Eelektrik
Final Standings
1st: Jeffrey Hanna w/ Zekrom/Tornadus/Eelektrik
2nd: Andrew Temen w/ Durant
3rd: Jay Hornung w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik
4th: Vincent Blasko w/ Zekrom/Tornadus/Eelektrik
5th: Adam Vernola w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Kyurem
6th: Josh Wittenkeller w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Zekrom
7th: Adam Bigott w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Thundurus/Zekrom
8th: Austin Reed w/ Magnezone/Eelektrik/Thundurus
So in the end, Eelektrik-based decks dominated in both swiss and top cut in Oswego. Because of this, I can see a lot of Terrakion, Landorus, and Donphan based decks to be played a lot tomorrow to prevent those Eel decks from dominating another city.

95 total players.... This is a HUGE city championship by comparison. just because the masters division wasnt as large doesnt mean it wasnt a big event. 21 juniors, 20 seniors, and 54 masters is a great balanced event.

These were literally the most efficiently run events I've ever seen. One event was so on time it was almost annoying that we didn't have that little bit of extra time to eat! So used to having pokemon events that are delayed a bit for one reason or another.

Just to be clear....
There wasnt a thief walking around looking for things to steal.
My deck was taken by someone due to my sons carelessness. He played a game and left it on the table. Crime of opportunity. Had he not left it on the table it would not have gotten taken.
I would probably say the same of the other deck that was taken. Players NEED to be responsible enough to monitor their belongings. If they monitor their things they wont be taken. Players need to take some responsibility for leaving their stuff unattended.
This is becoming a MUCH larger problem than it really was. :nonono:

I will be the 1st one to say that it was my fault for not grabbing my deck(though I thought I did), but I did not tell the person(who took it) to take it with them and not turn it in. besides, They have to live with that. I learned to be more careful(since this is the 1st time this as happen to me), and have moved on. I can replace it, so can Jimmy. Its done and over with.

Props
- Going decently in Huntley and Oswego with a borrowed deck that I had no practice with!
- Trading one N to Ness in exchange for an old-school Double Colorless Energy.
- Meeting new players from all over.
- Smoothly run week of Cities, credit to Jimmy Ballard and Co. for that. :3
- Taking the Prof Test during the lunch break of Streamwood CCs and passing it!
- All of the cities other than Huntley being less than an hour from my house! Countryside was only 15 minutes away!
- Finding hilarity in J-Wittz losing to his girlfriend in Joliet!
Slops
- Going 1-5 in Joliet, 3-4 in Streamwood, and 2-4 in Countryside with Sharpedo/Cinccino/FlipTini (aka, EPIC FAIL from Ohio)
- Getting decked out by Durant EIGHT times, once by Ness. Thereby reaffirming my position of Durant as a deck that can either cheaply win tournaments or as a pile of ants that crawl all over your lunch and leave you failing around .500 or worse.
- Car trouble in Oswego, my ride dropped after going 1-2 because of it.
- Losing to Donphan/Dragons in round six of Oswego. (I hate Donphan.)
- Not finding a ride to Des Plaines for the last day. D:
I already can't wait for next year's Marathon. Jimmy Ballard ran an awesome week, everything went well, and Chan was a fair and balanced judge as well during the whole week and I'd surely give him props for that too. :3
