I was playing some PBR today and had my Staraptor use U-Turn to switch into my Pidgeot who has U-Turn and is also Banded. When I went to use Brave Bird with Pidgeot, it said she could not do it because she was locked into U-Turn when she did not attack. Brave Bird would be her first attack of the game.

Does anyone know if this would happen with the other choice items?

In gen 4 when you use baton pass/u-turn while choiced - and you switch to a pokemon with the same move and choiced - you will be locked. I believe this was taken out in gen 5 but i am not sure.

Not sure why it would work that way. Baton Pass and U-Turn work differently.

Even though U-turn and baton pass do work differently, I think that since BP passes on stat boosts ans status inflictions and the what not, U turn is more of a "move" pass, in which the move is like a pass with what ever effects the move like grudge could be passed as well. Just like maybe locking the moves that the scarf's did- you "locked a move" to "swap/pass"in, and the scarf effect stayed since it recognized the Pokies as having the same moves in common.
I hope that made sense.
It is kind of a glitch in that the programming might have been unable to distinguish the "lock" because of the switch to the similar move set and being scarfed. If that is the case.
Only the programmers know the deal, and it has been noticed and fixed in the newer games. Kind of like how Sky drop and gravity dont mix- so prolly something to be fixed in future games, in any.

Well, my Staraptor was not holding any choice items when she did u-turn when I went to Pidgeot. My Pidgeot does have u-turn. I think I want to try this with another choiced pokemon to see if it works.
