Yay! This is a really good decision that should allow new players a chance without restricting our options too greatly when deckbuilding.

Lots of good news here. Seems like the rating and ranking system is going to be very professional and serious. This will become at least as good as the DCI, if not better. :D

So, here we are.
Now things will change slightly.
Without Best, Elm is no more allowed, nor Electabuzz and Hitmonchan and R's Mewtwo & 'Chan..

It may be a good thing, but it will be more difficult...
We'll see... ^_^

So, which Promos can we use? If any.

Just promos made by nintendo, no wizards best ofs or wizards black stars.

I can't believe it! It's amazing that they gave us the format we wanted!

Or to be more precise they (nearly) gave us the format that WE were going to use anyway ;)

I'm a little bit surprised that the BEST promos aren't included.. Elm is a card that really helps beginners decks and was readily available to give to new players. I don't have a stock of the alternatives that I can give away. Oh well goodye Prof Elm its been nice knowing you.

Ah, nuts, just after I built an E-on deck with Electabuzz... hmm... Four spaces to fill now...

It's good that they're getting a move on with info, though, this is pretty good.

Professor Oak's Research, Copycat, and Desert Shaman will have to suffice in place of Elm. To replace Bill, Bill's Maintenance or Mary's Impluse. Focus Band and Gold Berry... well that is a big loss because only Healing Berry and Oran Berry is the closest it gets. Well now that we know what is to come it is time to get to work!

Lets hope maybe in future sets of something they might reprint the Focus Band, cause it is a good card to have in your deck. :nonono:

Well I have printed off everything on the site that they have up right now about tournaments and such. It looks like I know what I will be reading tonight when I got to bed. :) Of course it doesn't hurt to have a hard copy of it during tournaments also.

Yes, I'm glad for this format! Death to Focus Band and babies! Woohoo! I personally can't wait for sanctioned tourneys to start up soon! Nintendo, you made the right choice going with Eon!!!

YES YES YES YES YES YES, I KNEW it would be this.

THANK YOU NINTENDO, THIS IS THE SECOND GREATEST THING YOU HAVE DONE!

Back to the non-cap version. I was really dead set on this happening. I traded all my old cards away and stuff. I built on alot to my expedition and up sets while others tried collecting other old cards. I told everyone at my league it would happen like this. Yes, this is great. I can't believe it. The single card that could kill alot was Muk because alot of the best pokemon had powers. Now that isn't here. Professor Elm was thought to be a staple. Well guess what people, not anymore. I congradulate nintendo on a great move. Now we can have tournaments now.

i don't know about focus band killing the game....its more like killing your opponents game if you keep hitting heads.

i personally used to be a big fan of gold berry, but after seeing the true power and damage a focus band can do...i was convinced focus was the way to go. i guess with focus and babies (power) now out of the picture, possible game winning flips are a thing of the past................memories................. :(

Just a quick question: It doesn't say anything about 2 vs. 2? Will all games involve 2 vs. 2? DO i have to have 2 basic Pokemon at the same time?

I love that they got this info at the first of the month! Now the play-testing begins! :D

I am very glad to hear that Modified will be E-on. Having done some experimentation with E-on (the first Modified I ever tried), I must say I like it as a format. Plenty of deck options, good base of Pokemon and Trainers, and an overall environment that, at least at present, seems very balanced.
Not having the Best Promos hurts a little, but we'll adjust. What I don't like is that every card E-on has for drawing or hand-changing is a Supporter, now that we don't have Elm. This is probably not going to change soon.

Nah.. I only have two Elms, and no Best Of ones, so either I forgot that was Best of card, or I preferred Desert Shaman... I don't even remember. 0.o I only built the deck on Tuesday. heh
Desert Shaman is quite an ownage card though, haha, especially when your opponent has more than 8 cards in their hand.. :D

djcati did we not get you 4 elms at London last week? Shame on my helpers .. email me your addy and I will stick 4 in the post.

Myst' Professor Oak's Research, Copycat, and Desert Shaman will have to suffice in place of Elm.

Great but we have a pile of elms to give less experienced and new players but with the scarce nature of uncommons we have few "Professor Oak's Research and CopyCat to replace them with!

Hmmm, I'm looking at the floor rules now and it looks like all of the black star promos are still allowed, including the ones WOTC banned last year. Yay eevee's back!!!

BLiZzArD

it says promotional cards numbered 001 and higher sorry only nintendo promos so no eevee

Articjedi
10/02/2003, 10:31 PM
well scratch that idea, oh well

Anyway, this new format does leave room for new drawing engines. I wonder if copycat will still be viable without elms or cleffas to copy.

dkates
10/02/2003, 10:40 PM
People seem to think so -- Copycat is still everywhere. The other favorite seems to be Juggler. Strangely, Oak's Research still doesn't seem to be catching on...

Tego
10/03/2003, 02:16 AM
I never liked Oak's Research. I've been against Oak's Research and for Copycat since the day Expedition was released. A new hand of only 5 cards is no card advantage. Copycat will give you more than 5 cards 80-90 % of the time. And even though it sometimes gives you few, it's still work playing. Because what do you have to worry for when your opponent has a tiny hand?

League Leader Terry

I know the feeling, Flygon. I only have a few of those cards and most of the peeps at my league have none.
