I should be there with an invasion force from Team Chicago... it'll be good to go to a local tournament on the last week of SC's- am going down south for the middle week. Hope to see a lot of new and familiar faces there!

I wish it was closer to central Indiana :(

We tried that last year, had terrible attendance numbers. Had better attendance at Cities last year then I did States. So we moved it further North.

Wasn't it in Fort Wayne last year? Derek... it's only 20 minutes north of where it was last year... You really should look into moving further south (Not that it matters to me, as you know I do travel) but there IS a good amount of players around Indianapolis... I think that's more where he was talking about. You'd get a good amount that's a pretty good central location. Not trying to butt in or nothing... just giving my opinion =)

Anyway I'll see you guys there, I plan on defending my title =p

I like the location.

3 hours from:
Chicago
Clevland
Dayton
Columbus (maybe 3.5)

Its close to Michigan too as well as Indianapolis.

I think they'll get a lot of people this year.

Believe me, it will make a huge difference.

Northern Indiana Cities had over 60 different people attend between the 4 City Championships. Indy tournaments didn't even have a total of 60 players. If I remember right (could be wrong, don't have the email in front of me) Indy area only had 25 different people at the two down there. Most from Ohio and Illinois. I am almost betting the numbers in Northern Indiana would have been higher if the SB City Championships wouldn't have had 6 inches of snow and freezing rain the night before.

I highly doubt this. Can't justify moving the States away from the major portion of the players to an area that just doesn't have many players. There league shows a lot, but yet very few of those league players seemed to show up at a City, so I am not convinced the numbers reported at that league is correct. Most people in Northern Indiana are not willing to travel 3 hours to a State. Can't put it in a location if over 75% of the players in a state are not willing to come. That is just a terrible idea. I am expecting a lot of players at this tournament. Set up for over 100, changeable to 120. From what I hear the hotel is almost booked for this day and the day before.

This will be my last post on this. Nobody complains where any of the other states are held. Even though they are just barely on the state line.

I agree, this is why its held here, its a great location, real easy to get to, lots of places to eat, and a lot of shopping and hotels. That and it did have the second highest attendance in the state for a City (highest was 45 minutes north-west). Would have been higher if half of my league members would have gone. I think they were a little burned out after 6 Cities in a row though.

Only 6 cities in a row? I was just getting warmed up...

On a more serious note, I have to agree with Sceptile7990 and farbsman about the location. I was out there for the first time with my dad who happened to tag along on 1/29/05. The location is nice, its right off of the interstate and has all the fast food and regular restaurants you need within a short distance. It's a distance from the big cities, but not too far... the location is central to the player base of the area.

There were comments about in being further south... but the numbers speak for themselves. I was down in Indy for the CC in November- there were only 4 people in the 10- or 11-14, I forget which. Had 18 people total, Ice Cold was there as well. South Bend had nearly as much and that was despite that huge storm...

Indy is only 150 miles away, less then 3 hours. I have to travel further then most to get to this tournament. It may be true that some people dont have the time or the money to go galavanting around the state and the area for these things... I think that's why it's at this location, to serve the most number of people. You can't please everyone, life just doesn't work like that... hope to see all of my friends and some new faces on 3/19. Can't wait!

This will be my last post on this. Nobody complains where any of the other states are held. Even though they are just barely on the state line.I don't think anyone was complaining. I would make the long drive if I didn't have a prior commitment. I'm going to Kentucky's SC afterall, and it's about 1/2 hour further.

There were comments about in being further south... but the numbers speak for themselves. I was down in Indy for the CC in November- there were only 4 15+ people and I believe 18 total people there. South Bend had nearly as much and that was despite that huge storm...I was at the Indianapolis CC and there were at least 11 15+ players. I know that's not a huge number, but that's way more than 4.

Well I think the idea of having the tournament more centralized is a better idea, especially when alot more people will traveling around for states.

ST Pika
02/27/2005, 04:23 PM
Mewchou, I fixed my prior comment above, I mentioned the wrong age group, thank you for catching that. I have no bias towards anyone running a tournament event, I was just trying to point out the facts. It is mentioned above that more people will be traveling around for states, that is most definately true. Some people will be going quite a ways for their SC's, some will not. The prizes at this level and higher make it worth the drive, especially if you have friends and/or family to come with you- that will the case for me for 4 of the 6 SC's I am attending. The other 2 I am going solo on- I'm making a vacation out of the trip.

Centralizing the location may or may not work, it depends on the player base of the state and the other nearby states. For example, having IL states in Springfield or Normal/Bloomington wouldn't really help because 90% of the player base is in Chicago and Rockford areas. In this case, people can make good arguements either way... and I'm not indicating a personal preference on this subject, nor should one be implied. I will go to wherever it is, it doesn't matter to me. I am merely pointing out a few relevant details.

Mewchou
02/27/2005, 04:38 PM
I don't blame him at all for having it where there are going to be more people. It's just too bad the people I play with in Indianapolis won't be able to go to a State Championship, that's all.

ST Pika
02/27/2005, 05:13 PM
Hey, Mewchou, try and organize a van group or something- those are the best ways to get people to tournaments and to spread the cost out. That's how a lot of people from my area get to tournaments, lots of them don't have their own cars or don't want to drive long distances.

I'm not trying to start a fued or nothing but I have to correct a few things here

ST pika and Mewchou you guys are discussing two totally different events lol.

Mewchou is talking about the INDIANAPOLIS CC
ST pika is talking about the PLAINFIELD CC

Plainfield numbers did stink, I will agree to that. We had I think 18 total... most were from out of town but like 6-7 locals I believe. The reason for this though was because we didn't know it was a church town and the event was on Sunday

The event Mewchou is talking about, Indianapolis which was held on a saturday not to far from the Plainfield (in good driving distance it wasn't that much further) we reached 29 people I think

Only 8 of those were from Ohio (the only other state to have players compete in this... that means there was 21 local players. I was at both of these events and the Indy was much better than Plainfield because of attendence.

Derek I'm not trying to get you to change where the states are, I'm just trying to get you to realize that there are really a lot more players down there from Indiana... you know I don't mind the travel to either area as I attend both places. I'm not trying to make you mad or anything so if I do I apologize but is there someplace further south, closer to the Indianapolis area that would be about equal driving distance so you can keep most of the players you get now and gain the ones from Indianapolis. Most of the time do you really get THAT many locals at yours? I'm just wondering because most of the time people I see coming to the events (From the ones I attended) were all MI/IL peeps with a very small amount from Indy... you'd get a much larger local player base closer to Indianapolis (as long as the events are on Saturday). Hope I didn't upset you by this, that wasn't my intent I just know there's a lot of players down there that don't get much in the way of OP other than league and they love it. I'm just trying to get them some help so they can attend more events.

ST Pika
02/28/2005, 04:48 AM
I see... the circumstances do make sense for what happened at Plainfield. I stand corrected. <Does a little now before YoungJohn06> I did also suggest caravans to get groups of people to the event, wherever it may be. If I was passing thru Indy on the way to a OH or KY event and had room to spare, I'd let everyone know on the board and arrangements could be made, my car has become a travel service, lol.

You have to remember some of my local player base is from Michigan. I am only 10 miles from the Michigan border where I run my normal prerelease and leagues. I have a lot of players that travel to Indiana for league.

If I moved it to Indy, not only would I have no judging staff, I would also only have Ohio and Indianapolis players at the event. Most of the players that are local (local being an hour driving distance) are not willing to drive 3 hours to play in Indy. Why run my event in a place that almost all my locals wouldn't attend.

I was told to run the event by Pokemon USA in the area with the most players. After looking at prerelease numbers and city numbers I would have a lower attendance if I would have run it in Indy instead of Auburn.

That is why I ran Indiana both years up North. Last year I was told what city to run the States in and that didn't work. This year I am running it where I wanted to last year. This place is 10 times easier to get to then the place in Ft. Wayne. There is also a lot more to do in driving distance. The Auburn cord-duesenburg museum and the ebay autos aution place are both in Auburn.

I had this same discussion about Michigan States with some players up there. Garden City always ran events and had States. However, The Jackson/Ann Arbor Area has more players then in Rochester Hills/Garden City area. Tecumseh which is 15-20 minutes from Jackson/Ann Arbor had over 50 players at the last Prerelease. So kinda hard to justify running that one in the eastern part of the state when most players are centrally located.

If attendance numbers were better in Indy, I would have run it closer to Indy. However, the numbers just don't support it. PUI wants the most people to be able to attend the States as possible. That is why I am running it in Auburn.

This is probably the last time I will post on the subject. Numbers don't lie, PUI had no problem with the decision. When the numbers change, so will the location.

Now why the questions on Indiana but no complaints on Ohio. It isn't centered either. Neither is Missouri, Illinois, or any the others. Why am I the only one being questioned on location? I already know the answer to that question. Wonder how many complaints I will get in May/June also.

No offense to anyone, but why do you guys are complaining about driving =/?

"quote"

Most people in Northern Indiana are not willing to travel 3 hours to a State

"end quote"

Not to be like complaining or anything, but Cali players have to drive the following
Oregon: 10+ Hours
Nevada: 10 Hours
My Cali States: 8 Hours.

Just be happy you guys are close honestly.

ST Pika
03/01/2005, 04:45 AM
Well, certain locations have the advantage of being very centralized- Chicago, ST. Louis, OKC, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, etc. provide the player who can drive 0-5 hours with lots of options. I know some places out west have bigger distances... but they're a decent bit with a day's drive. I had only 2 people go to more CC's then me, and both were from California. (Both had 12 vs my 11) There must have been a lot going on out there for that to be accomplished.

One must deal with the circumstances of their area, we live where we live. Thank God I dont live in Alaska still or I'd only have one CC to go to and no states, unless I drove/flew down to Vancouver or Seattle. Anyone in NW Canada, Alaska, or any other Canadian province with the exception of S. Central Ontario and SW British Columbia is really only in range of one or maybe 2 SC's- those people would have a real right to complain about distance to a tournament. And also remember that lots of Canada does not have interstate hwy's like we do- sometimes I think we're spoiled here in the US... but that's another subject. I hope no one takes offense at this comment, I am merely pointing out a few facts.
