What a weekend! Saturday I drove up to Michigan with Jason K. for the Michigan State Championships. We both played Dragtrode, and we both went 3-3 =(. Although the luck wasnt with me there, i had a feeling that things would change on Sunday, and they did :D. I drove up there with Jason again, and we both played Dragtrode, AGAIN (although I was VERY close to playing rock-lock). Here's my list (Slightly changed from my list a few days ago in the deck forum.):

Pokemon: 27

4 Dratini
4 Dark Dragonair
3 Dark Dragonite
4 Dunsparce
2 Voltorb
2 Dark Electrode
2 Pidgey
1 Pidgeotto
2 Pidgeot
2 Rocket's Sneasel EX
1 Rocket's Scyther EX

Energy: 13

4 Darkness Energy
4 Dark Metal Energy
4 Rainbow Energy
1 R Energy

Trainers: 20

4 Steven's Advice
4 Celios Network
3 Copycat
3 Rare Candy
2 Briney
1 ATM Rock
1 Charm
1 Shard
1 Rockets Hideout

I decided to go 4 Dratini and 4 Dark Dragonair so I could consistantly evolutionary light turn 2 and grab the Pidgeotto/Pidgeot/Dragonite.

Round 1 VS Dragtrode

I went first and got set up; he didn't. Dragonite went through everything.

1-0

Round 2 vs Dragtrode

I go first again with a Sneasel vs a Dunsparce. I do 20 to it with a dark, he draws and PASSES, I play an R Energy and win. =(.

2-0

Round 3 VS Mr. Lucas w/Rock-Lock

DOH, had to run into that damn deck eventually. He got set up REALLY fast whereas I went pretty slow. It wasn't looking good, but a nice Steven's ripped me exactly what a needed, and a well timed Scyther nailed his Ttar, and Sneasel was able to do 120 to the Amphy to finish it up.

3-0

Round 4 vs Abe w/Rock-Lock

I went 2nd with a lone Pidgey against a GOD START! I got Rock-Locked pretty fast :D.

3-1

Round 5 VS Rock-Lock

Anyone notice a pattern? We both got set up well, but mine was better. A nicely timed 120 to the Ttar with 3 energy on it ended it pretty quickly.

4-1

Round 6 VS Vileplume EX

We both got god awful starts, but I got a dragonite that he couldnt touch for most of the game. I had 2 chances to knock out his Belossum, but he paralized me 3 times in a row, and finally drew the pidgeot to search for a shard and KO my Draggy. It all went downhill from there.

4-2

So I'm pretty confident that I WONT make top 8, but Vince does the tiebreakers, and I just BARELY make it in 8th place. Unfortunately, round 1 I get to play the 6-0 JASON KLACZYNSKI.

Quarterfinals vs Jason K. (Ness) w/Dragtrode

Game 1: I get set up, he doesnt, I win.

Game 2: SUPER close game. We both get set up. I shard his draggy, he shards mine right back. Eventually it came down to who had what left in their deck, and I just had a little bit more of everything, so I was able to barely edge it out. He had 1 prize left when I won :D.

SemiFinals vs Paul w/Rocklock

Game 1: I get a god start, he gets a Pidgey. Draggy goes through everything.

Game 2: He gets a god start, I get a Pidgey. I scoop turn 3.

Game 3: Alright, this is actually a legitimate game. We both get ideal setups, but since his Pidgeot and Ttar were both candied, I got a very nice rock on him. The Scyther nailed his next Ttar, and his Amphy WOULD have killed my Scyther, but he played the DRE on it instead of the Scramble. OOPS. He rams Scyther, Sneasel comes up and does 120, and you can figure out the rest.

Finals VS POOOOOOOOOKA w/Lanturn/Rydon/Pidgot/TECH

*Side note* This deck beat the hell out of me and Jason before the tournament in like 10 playtest games.

Game 1: I THOUGHT I got a god start, but he gets a nice Lanturn/DRE/Shard on my Draggy, and draws into more DREs and Pidgeots and Swamps and Exodias and... anyways I lost bad.

Game 2: We both get set up and exchange knockouts. I pull ahead, but Pooka has the GAME WINNING REVERSAL FLIP.... TAILS!!! I knock something out and win.

Game 3: I get set up early, but he gets super nice draws. Without a Pidgeot, he actually Scrambled me then DRE'd me 3 times to get a 6-2 lead early. Eventually he ran out of gas though, and never could get his Pidgeot up, so Sneasel and Draggy took care of the rest. What a series!

So I took first and got all that good stuff.

-Special props to Pooka for putting up with 10 hours of constant Pooka jokes.
-Props to Vince for running an awesome tourney.
-Props to everyone!

Sorry I couldnt do more, but I'm tired as hell.

Hey, nice job Alex. You had the 3rd game all wrong though. 2nd game was with the 58590358 Double Rainbows. 3rd game is the one when I got nothing. =(

Woohoo--I beat the state champ!

Too bad bad resistance yet again kept me out of the top cut--finished 10th. Didn't help that my round 3 opponenet left before the final round and that my first round opponent 'let' his opponent win in the last round.

Still a great fun-filled day and got to meet some more people I hadn't gotten the chance to meet yet.

I probably won't be going to MO/IN/or IA states, so WI will probably be my last and final one this year. Besides, MO/IN/IA is a pretty long ways to go riding a cow :thumb:

Hopefully I can at least make top cut at WI states and see what I can do then.

I'll definately be at Wisconsin. Nothing would make me feel better than winning a 2nd states so NOBODY gets a trip. Would be even better if it was Pooka again :D.

Well,

Before this weekend, I would have swore that Drag-Trodes would dominate the states. At least one won. I do find that some people play the deck wrong, it is obvious you don't. Why to go!
