why would you come from michigan to here you cant win a trip you have to pay a hell of a lot of gas money(unless u take other transport) you have to stay at a hotel only thing you can win is packs not worth it IMO cheaper to by boxes in USA than go.
SomethingElse
05/30/2005, 02:19 PM
you can win the invite and the scholarships still
Pokekid
05/30/2005, 02:21 PM
Nope you can't you have to be ''''canadian resident""" just like in another country.

Q: If I win a National Championship and I'm not a resident of that country, do I get a Travel Award to Worlds?
A: No, you will only receive an invite to Worlds along with the rest of your on-site prizes. International POP policy is that Travel Awards are only available to players residing in that country. So, that if a foreign national wins an event that has a Travel Award included in the prize package, the Travel Award part of the prize gets "passed down" to the next player at that event who is a national resident.

That would be me :D
I have a feeling that there will be quite a few people attending from out of Canada. I would like to wish everyone good luck regardless of where you are from. It might be wise though to not disclose your location to anyone except the judges. I don't condone any bigotry or Nationalistic spirit, and will penalize any unsportsmanlike conduct, but I have seen it happen in some tournaments that some people tend to dislike some they may view as "outsiders." Be aware that we will be doing our best to make this as enjoyable a tournament for everyone. If that means that some may have to be asked to leave to provide a suitably calm environment for the rest of the participants, then be sure that it will happen - regardless of who it may affect. In fact, I'm not above even asking my son to leave, so let's not go there shall we?
Here's a few I know for sure (guaranteed) are going to go:
Sam P 10- Barrie
Kevin H 15+ Barrie area
Kristee B 15+ Barrie area
Steven C 15+ Barrie area
Eric L 15+ Barrie area
Scott M 15+ Barrie area
Haley B 11-14 Barrie
Hailey S 11-14 Barrie area (unfortunately will just turn 11 before Nat's)
Mike C 15+ Barrie area
Ben F 11-14 Barrie area
Olivia F 10- Barrie area
Ben G 11-14 Barrie
not sure about his brother, but most likely. Josh G 10- Barrie
Plus these brothers:
Eric V 10- Barrie
Adrian V 11-14 Barrie
Daniel V 11-14 Barrie
Matthew V 15+ Barrie
Those are just a few I know for certain will be there. I haven't talked to a few people in the Toronto area, but I'm sure Greg C 15+ will be there with his son and daughter - both in the 11-14 age group. Plus I'm sure I could rattle off a few more possibles. I'm sure it will be rather large.

How many players attended last years at the Canadian Nationals??
There wasn't one. Our "Gym Challenge" was perty much our provincal chapionships...
2003-2004 Premiere events (not including prereleses)
City Championships
Gym Chalenge
we never saw any states or natinals....
2004-2005
City Championship
State (Provincals) Championships
(no reginals for us)
Gym Chalenge
Natinals Championships.
there is only (as far as I know)
3 MAJOR areas left that have a good league aswell as Primere Events in Canada
I attend the one in St.Albert Albert, lucky I live 2 blocks away from it, aswell as work there ^_^
The Second one is Barrie Ontario
And the third In Toronto Ontario it self.
Unfortunitly for me, the natinals our held in Toronto, due to the population base. It'd be awsome holding a tourny that big at West Edmonton Mall...(for those of you that don't know, its the worlds biggest mall, with a Theme park (and rollercoasters INSIDE ^_^) as well as a waterpark (over 20 water slides) and a heck of a awsome hotel ^_^)
Oh well.....
Rainbowgym
05/31/2005, 02:52 PM
Did that Gym Challenge last year offered a trip/stay for Worlds 2004?
Meaby I can compare it with Nationals 2005.
Which area was that gym challenge?
Yes there was one trip per age group given away last year here in each of the gym challenges. One was held in Ontario, and one was held in Alberta. So actually this year we're getting quite a bit more with both gym challenges and Nationals.

Okay here are my predictions for show up in nationals:
15+=60+
11-14=20-30
10-=10-20
Total=100-->150 ppl
this is about right, from what i got off the op site added some numbers for ppl who have not signed up for my pokemon.

Thanks Jay, you saved me the trouble.
The professors at our gym are sporting some new tokens to be used as a badge challenge. Perhaps I will be able to bring some. If we have enough time to play (either before, or after), and you win, you get my gold badge, if you lose you get a silver one. Perhaps Adam, Josh and I can have a chance to meet and play many of you, and have some more interesting times with some new friends. Sorry to hear you can't make it Granmajoner, but I'm sure the competition will be very good anyway. Hopefully we can get some side events happening as well. No guarantees of course.

Well just bought the plain tickets all but 3 days ago...total came too *pulls out stub*
$495,97 CANADIAN after airport taxes and what not....
All i can say is, its a good thing i can stay with my unkle, who knows, maby I could get him to play :P XD
I've got bout 200$ spending money left over, (thanks my mom&dad for the b-day present of 150$ to go to this ^_^ )
And procrastination_alley, would the "pre Nats" on friday night, be at the hotel or at the league in Berry, Because if we can get enoufe people, I'd love to have some fun with Ladder Night, and Draft tournys friday, saturday & sunday, might aswell make it the best CANADIAN NatS ever ^_^ even an unlimited tourny would be a heck of fun and bring me back *gets lost in thought*
This is going to be awsome!!! As for card Signage, I would be happy to, but you gotta sign my lucky psy energy too ^_^ lucky, but I still lost Provincal final by 1 prize in tie breaking round -_- (pokekid, whatch out for landon)
Ok, time to wrap this up...(this is what happens when i forget bout A topic)
If anyone else would like to meet up with me I will be
A) the one with a Canadian Back Pack
B) the one with a 12 pack of coke beside me at all times
C) whos 6 feet tall and extremly skinny :P
D) the one with a sdrawkcab sign on my back (hopefully :P)
+ I need to recrute members for my three (EDIT: 4 teams) teams before nats since they kicked me outta the Corfish Clan XD I KICKED MYSELF OUT lol
Team ARL : Is My First Team Co-founded with SuperTyranitar, we both have an extream hate for RocK Lock decks, and so we shared the idea of A) Destorying them with muk decks (i hate u spencer XD) and B) preventing them from taking over worlds by japanesse players ^_^ As of now we have 6 members that I know of..." Shadow Zangoose, Green Gonzo, Time for Pain, Poliwag62, My self and ST If you wish to join you know what to do...
Team Blex: Well me and Super Stoise Ex both were getting tierd of people looking down on Blastiose decks after CityChamps, theres a hole chunck of a thread where even Chris Fluop said "Blastiose just isn't good right now, it has potenial, and we'll see more of it next year...." others said it just had "bad weaknesses"
Well....i have at least 10+ diffrent usable lists depending on the metagame, and stoise Ex went undeafted in a GC or a State Champ ( i can't remeber )
Last But not tsael
Team Backwards: suprisingly this mostly wasn;t my idea, Cofounded by me and DukeFireBird at 3 in the morning, we were just talking, and then talked backwards, then one thing lead to an other LMAO ^_^ O well it's still awsome having a team named after you! ^_^
You know wut...
Team COKE: Well put it this way...with a case of coke by my side theres no way i can lose a game ^_^ I just made it now, but there is a long insider for this...(well 5 diffrent insiders to be correct) Any one who has A love for coke go ahead and Join, and As I typed this, SuperTyranitar joined it ^_^
TO geather we make One ulitmate groupe of....i'll get my head advicers in each to come up with a name...I'll be back .....

Pichaque, I'd love to have a game with you, but I gotta be honest. Chances are that I will be right into the final stages of set up for the tourney. I will be there early, but I'll probably be very busy. After is probably a better time, even though it may be late. I plan on staying for an hour or 2 after the event to trade and battle.

Everything?
everything but the Invite & trip?

so the top 4 canadians still get the trip even if they place all the way down in 9-16th...THATS AWSOME XD
So we get a free trip to play in the grinder XD still that makes me alot happier
If A canadian makes top8 and loses still got a 25% chance of going to the grinder XDi wouldn't be surprised if a groupe from detroit cross the boader to play us...but whatch out, I got the Corphish Clan on my side...well, maby i'm on their side...XD just whatch out!

Tuo backwards
Wow, it was so great to see so many people there. We had 104 participants - I'm not 100% sure, but I think this was the breakdown: 18 in 10-, 32 in 11-14, and 54 in the 15+. I know it's somewhere around that area anyway. I wasn't so concerned about the numbers at the time, just that the tournament ran fairly smoothly by the rules, and I hope everyone had a fun time with that. I have to admit, it was some of the funnest and busiest tournaments I've had a chance to be involved in. I watched the whole 15+ finals match myself, and although it was late in my opinion, both participants were at the top of their game - and kept me involved as well. I was proud to be there, and felt honored to be able to in some small way be a part of their match, by doing the odd shuffle or cut for them. Congratulations to Something else AKA Sean F. for the win in an exciting matchup.
In the whole day the only thing I had a real problem with, that I took offense with was when one of the participants in the top 8 cut for 11-14, attempted to argue with me about his use of Wally's training on either a Harriyama ex or some other such highest stage evolution ex, just so he could search his deck to see what's there, and what was in his prizes. I slapped him a warning for stalling.
One problem resulted due to a glitch in the program, that one of the participants were seeded higher then what their rankings after swiss indicated, which meant that instead of a 4th place finish which she rightfully deserved, the program gave her the 3rd place finish. I wasn't involved with that conversation, and don't know too many of the details regarding what happened there, but the tournament organizer took care of that, and got the trophy to the rightful owner, and gave some extra product to compensate for the mistake the computer made. Let's hope this problem doesn't happen often.
Other than those 2 incidents, I think the tournament went really well, and I'd like to congratulate all the winners, the top 4 finishers and those ones that got their trip handed down to them, and thank everyone for coming. I'd also like to thank Pokemon Organized Play for the chance to run this tournament, and their sponsorship for the prizes given away. I'd also like to thank Pete DeShaw for coming up here, and losing some sleep to help us out. Very much appreciated Pete. Let's do this again next year! Maybe I'll have to play next time, you never know! Thanks again everybody.

My son and I had a great time even though we didn't make the finals. He was 2-3 with a Team Aqua deck in 11-14 and I was 3-3 in 15+ with a Ludicargo/Lantern deck. Props to Skyfox and the POP guys. It was run very smoothly, nothing like Origins last year.
