Dear all,

It was announced by our distributor, Croftminster, today, that there will be NO NATIONALS IN NEW ZEALAND THIS YEAR. The official announcement is posted in their forums, in which they announce that there will be a "joint Nationals" for NZ and Australia.

http://forums.croftminster.com.au/showthread.php?t=3567

For those of you that aren't aware, NZ and Australia are separated by the Tasman Sea, and it is at least three hours flying between the countries. This means that effectively NZers have NO OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY at such a "joint Nationals" (unless you spend your OWN money on a plane ticket to travel there). This is completely contrary to what we have been promised, and contradicts PUI's policy that every country with POP should have a Nationals tournament, and the chance to win invites to Worlds. A Nationals in our country is the ONLY CHANCE that players here have to win a trip to worlds, and now it has been taken away. We do not have Regionals or Gym Challenges.

Last year, our country's representative went 4-2-1 in Swiss and made it to the top 32 of the 15+ competition. Based on attendance figures from last year, other countries with much smaller player bases than NZ (Singapore, and Hong Kong for example) have each had their own Nationals this year. Considering NZ's small population, our player base (per head of population) is probably MUCH LARGER than in many other countries, yet Croft's decision excludes us from the World Championships.

In light of this, I am requesting to PUI that they take responsibility for the decision, and respectfully request that they change the decision. I am sending e-mails of complaint about this decision to the following e-mail addresses:

international@pokemon-tcg.com
leagues@pokemon-tcg.com

As members of the International Pokemon Community, your support would be GREATLY appreciated. Writing an e-mail in support of a separate NZ Nationals will only take you a few minutes, and it could make all the difference for our country. As International players, take a moment to consider what it would be like if your country was being excluded in this fashion - I guarantee that NZ players would be willing to sacrifice a few minutes of their time to do the same for you. We do not expect you to write much, even just a few lines expressing your disapproval of the current arrangement would be fine. It might be helpful if you included your POP ID in your e-mail. As players in NZ, our principal submissions to PUI are as follows:

1) We want to know who at PUI was responsible for allowing Croft to hold a "joint Nationals" in Australia, and reasons why this was thought to be an acceptable arrangement. We are also curious as to whether Croft is even allowed to do this, based on contractual arrangements with PUI.
2) We ask that whoever at PUI authorised the decision PLEASE reconsider, and encourage Croft to hold a separate event in New Zealand.
3) We find it offensive that a Nationals event which is in reality only open to Australians has been falsely named "Australia and NZ Nationals". We request that the name of this event be changed to "Australian Nationals" so that Croft cannot misrepresent the fact that they are excluding NZ from a National Championship.

Thank you for your time in reading this, and your support is appreciated.
