View Full Version : Family Feud--Pokémon Gym Leaders Edition

Carrington388
08/02/2005, 04:55 PM
This fanfic is basically a week of Family Feud episodes where Pokémon gym leaders play as contestants. Odds are you know how Family Feud is played, even if it's not called Family Feud where you're from (i.e. Family Fortunes in Britain, 100 Mexicanos Dijeron in Mexico, etc.). I will be writing the episodes in a script format, so you can follow it as if it was actually being shown on TV and the like. Just for the record, Burton Richardson is the announcer and Richard Karn is the host of the current iteration of the Feud in America.

Just for the record, the teammate-swapping mechanic used in this week was initially used in a week of the original iteration of Family Feud, the one with Richard Dawson as host, where the two teams competing were the Hatfields and the McCoys, where there were 10 Hatfields and 10 McCoys.

[FAMILY FEUD THEME BEGINS PLAYING]

[BURTON RICHARDSON] It's time for the Family Feud! It's a special week where gym leaders from three different regions compete for their favorite charities! Let's meet them now!

Introducing the gym leaders of Kanto! Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni. Ready for action!

The gym leaders of Johto! Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, and Clair. Get set!

And the gym leaders of Hoenn! Roxanne, Brawly, Wattson, Flannery, Norman, Winona, Tate & Liza, and Wallace. On your marks, let's start the Family Feud!

With the star of Family Feud, Richard Karn! [RICHARD KARN WALKS ONSTAGE]

[RICHARD] Thank you, Burton, and welcome to the Feud! [CROWD CHEERS]

We've got a special week lined up for you. It's a week where Pokémon gym leaders from various regions compete by region for their charity. And we've got the largest cash pot in Feud history ready for these gym leaders, since the winning charity will be guaranteed no less than $100,000! [CROWD CHEERS]

We'll be playing three games with each region facing the other two exactly once. That is, you'll see a Kanto vs. Johto match, a Kanto vs. Hoenn match, and a Johto vs. Hoenn match. [CROWD CHEERS]

Anyway, each point earned by our players is one dollar toward their charity. It takes 300 points to win a game here on Family Feud, and if neither team reaches that amount by the end of our fourth round, we'll play a sudden-death tiebreaker to determine the winner of the game. Fast Money in each of the preliminary matches will be worth the usual $20,000.

Anyway, there's also another scoring system in play. Regions that win a match without a tiebreaker will get 3 points toward the finals. If a tiebreaker is needed to finish the game, both teams will recieve 1 point toward the finals. Finally, teams that lose in regulation will get no points toward the finals. It takes 4 points to reach our two-day final, where the winner will be guaranteed $100,000 and get to play for an additional $50,000 in Fast Money!

Anyway, only five people can play the Feud at a time, so this week, there are substitutions. Each of the eight people, or nine on the Hoenn team, can put in any combination of five before each round begins, and they can select any two on the team for Fast Money.

Now, why don't I go meet the teams? I'll start with Team Kanto. Brock, tell us all about your team.

[BROCK] I'd be delighted to, Richard. Well, I'm Brock from the Pewter City Gym, where Rock is the name of the game. Next, it's Misty from the Cerulean City Gym, the Water-type gym. Next, it's Lt. Surge from the Vermillion City Gym, which uses Electric-types. After that, we have Erika from the Celadon City Gym, an absolute master at Grass-types. Next is Koga from the Fuschia City Gym, specializing in Poison-types. He's followed by Sabrina from the Saffron City Gym, where Psychic will trash you if you're not careful. Then we have Blaine from the Cinnabar Island Gym, where you'll feel nothing but the heat of his Fire. Lastly, we have Giovanni from the Viridian City Gym, where Ground-types are used in abundance.

[RICHARD] And your charity is?

[BROCK] Animal Avengers.

[RICHARD] Nice! Next, I'll talk to Team Johto. Falkner, tell us all about your team.

[FALKNER] I'm Falkner from the Violet City Gym, Flying-types fly high there. Next to me, it's Bugsy from the Azalea Town Gym, a keeper of Bug-types. After him is Whitney from the Goldenrod City Gym, a talented Normal-type Pokémon trainer. Following her is Morty from the Ecruteak City Gym, with its very own Ghosts! After that is Chuck from the Cianwood City Gym, where you'll be Fighting with destiny. Then we have Jasmine from the Olivine City Gym, with her solid Steel by the sea. Next up is Pryce from the Mahogany Town Gym, where it's so cold you'd know for sure it was Ice. Finally, we have Clair from the Blackthorn City Gym, a keeper of Dragons.

[RICHARD] And your charity?

[FALKNER] Relief efforts from the London bombings.

[RICHARD] Great! Finally, let's meet Team Hoenn. Roxanne, tell us all about your team.

[ROXANNE] Honestly, why isn't there a Dark-type Gym around? Anyway, I'm Roxanne from the Rustboro City Gym, I train Rock-types. Next to me is Brawly from the Dewford Town Gym, where he trains Fighting-types by the waves. Next to him is Wattson from the Mauville City Gym, where he'll shock you with Electric-types. Next to him is Flannery from the Lavaridge Town Gym, where her Fire will burn you. Next to her is Norman from the Petalburg City Gym, he's a fine keeper of Normal-types. Next to him is Winona from the Fortree City Gym, where her Flying-types feel right at home. The two people next to her are Tate and Liza from the Mossdeep City Gym, masters of comboing Psychic-types. Finally, next to the twins is Wallace from the Sootopolis City Gym, where he uses Water-types.

[RICHARD] And your charity?

[ROXANNE] New York City Fire Department. Hey, it's nearly four years since 9/11 and they could still use the money!

[RICHARD] Well, when we come back, it's the start of the Kanto vs. Johto match. Stick around.

[RICHARD] You didn't know what the question was when you sat out Bugsy!

[FALKNER] I'll go with Level Ball. You know, to catch the weaker ones easier? Of course, they'd work better with someone like Clair or Giovanni than they would with myself.

It's day two a special week lined up for you.

You've already seen the Kanto vs. Johto match, so we've yet to see a Kanto vs. Hoenn match and a Johto vs.

For those of you who missed the show yesterday, Brock, tell us all about your team.

We currently have three points toward the finals and $20,496 toward our chairty.

[RICHARD] And your charity is?

[BROCK] Animal Avengers.

[RICHARD] Nice! Next, I'll talk to Team Johto. Falkner, tell us all about your team again.

Sadly, Team Kanto kept us from winning any points toward the finals, but we so far have won $196 for our charity.

[RICHARD] And your charity?

[FALKNER] Relief efforts from the London bombings.

[RICHARD] Great! Finally, let's meet Team Hoenn. Roxanne, tell us all about your team again.

We've yet to play, so we obviously haven't earned any points toward the finals and haven't yet won any money for our charity.

[RICHARD] And your charity?

[ROXANNE] New York City Fire Department. Hey, it's nearly four years since 9/11 and they could still use the money!

[RICHARD] Well, when we come back, it's the start of the Johto vs. Hoenn match. Stick around.

[RICHARD] We're back. Falkner, who is your starting five?

[FALKNER] I'll start Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, and Pryce.

[RICHARD] Roxanne, name your starting five.

[ROXANNE] All the women. Myself, Flannery, Winona, Tate, and Liza.

[RICHARD] OK. Whitney, Roxanne, it's time for a face-off! [WHITNEY AND ROXANNE WALK UP TO FACE-OFF PODIUM] We surveyed 100 people, top 8 answers on the board. Here's the question:

Which locale did you think was the best for Survivor?

[WHITNEY BUZZES IN]

[RICHARD] Whitney?

[WHITNEY] I'm thinking Chicago.

[AUDIENCE ROARS LOUDLY]

[JASMINE] I can't believe Falkner started with you!

[PRYCE] Yeah! That answer stinks worse than trainers who bring Flying-types into my gym!

[FLANNERY] Or Grass-types into miner!

[RICHARD] Enough fighting! Show me Chicago. [BUZZER] Didn't make the survey. Roxanne?

[ROXANNE] Africa.

[RICHARD] OK. Show me Africa!

[FLANNERY] It's OK.

[TATE] I know it hasn't yet begun (ED NOTE: As of the taping), but perhaps Guatamala is up there?
