yeah, I agree with benlugia, who are you? This could be a hoax.

Anyways, do you need to be a professor or a TO or anything to volunteer?

Benlugia
08/11/2005, 08:03 PM
its no hoax.
i just found that she posted this same stuff for last year's worlds. i guess she's the organizer for all of it. just because she doesn't have "professor" above her name, doesn't mean she isn't a professor.

hey gang, I was the on site volunteer coord. last year at worlds. this is not a hoax. I did get permission from PUI prior to staring this thread. I am a volunteer myself.

BENLUGIA, I wish I was famous then I could quit my job.

I am the one that tends to go around adopting everyone.

I just received a PM asking who I am. sorry didnt mean to make a mystery. this is Ronae (Renee) Curry.

Ronae's at work but I can clear up some of the questions (Once you are married to someone for 20 years you start to understand their thought process).

If you remember back to last year the volunteers/staff wear decked out in one of three outfits: The judges wore the "stunning" striped shirts (much better outfits coming this year), the full-time staff wore cream-colored shirts, and the on-site volunteers wore blue t-shirts. Ronae is in charge of finding and filling the on-site volunteer slots.

These tasks will vary greatly in the level of responsibility and time/effort required. The taks may be as simple as crowd control during registration ("10&Unders to the left. 15&Ups to the right") or as complicated as being the keeper of the Mystic Tickets ("they're mine, ALL mine!!!").

They can be as short-term as fetching lunches for the staff (No wait, that's Dave's job) to manning the Create-a-Card area all day.

With last year's experience behind us Ronae and PUI have a better feel for the types and number of volunteers needed but there will be pop-up requirements ("Ronae, there's 300 kids in the Beanbag room, can you find a couple of volunteers to help watch them?").

As for some of the other questions, No, you don't have to be a Professor (or an adult), you just have to be willing to help. Ronae is making a list of potential volunteers based on your PMs and will work to fill the slots based upon everyone's availability and talents. Hopefully her PM box will not overflow before she makes it home. Check in with Ronae at the Guest Services desk in the Foyer and she will let you know if/how you can help.

Can you compete in worlds and still volunteer??

Probably, there's prolly stuff to be done on friday and sunday...
---
Speaking of that...

Chewie, I cannot work on saturday, as I will be playing in worlds. If I'm lucky, I will not be able to participate on sunday either. Actually, come to think of it, if I don't make top cut, I'll be doing prereleases on sunday. So no saturday or sunday.

However, I would be more then happy to help on friday, or even thursday if you need someone to help with setup(despite me being 13...I can lift the light stuff =P).

On friday however, if the Create a Card section will be open, I would very much like to work there.
I am an experienced Fake Card Creator here at the Pokegym, and will have a minibinder somewhat full of some of my works. I feel I would be the perfect candidate for the job of Create a Card section helper person thing, because I could give tips and help people make their fake cards.

Patience is a virtue. Just wait for an answer to whatever your question is. If by answer you mean a reply PM, by the sounds of things you prolly won't get one, they're just taking the PMs and adding the ppl to the list.

You don't know for sure, but if what hagrid said is true, you are. If you were paying ANY attention, he said they were compiling the volunteer list based on who PMs them. If you PMed them, you're in, I would bet.

Settle down everyone. Ronae is behind on reading and replying to the PMs (She works for a living and was gone all weekend). Everyone that sent a PM will be added to the list and be given priority in filling the spots. Don't forget that we won't know for sure what positions are needed until we get to San Diego. PUI provided Ronae with a list of potential openings but things could change as they make the final plans and preparations. She will get the official list Thursday afternoon from Dave and Susan. Plus there will be other pop-up needs that occur each day.

Three more days (for us) and everything will be wonderful :thumb: (At least in San Diego)

Hello guys. Sorry I just finished answering all the pm. I work in the medical field and have long hours sometimes.
The positions I am recuriting for do not include Judging.
I will make a list of everyone who asked to volunteer and tell you what time and where to check in with me.
There are a LIMITED number of slots but I will try to place as many as I can.
Thanks
Ronae

will we get any "reward"/compensation of any sort? cause if it conflicts with the pre's then i want to play in the prerelease. i want a non BT answer.
Dude be happy that you are even being given a chance to volunteer at worlds. I met plenty of kids at California states who would give an arm and a leg to do what we are doing.

okay....

Burninating_Torchic
08/16/2005, 09:45 PM
okay....

I TOLD YOU.
It's called volunteer work for a reason. Look volunteer up in the dictionary. The purpose of volunteer work is not to get paid for it, it's to help others with no personal gain. Man, like you said, that was a pretty greedy question.
But on the other side of things, it's a good thing you asked online. I wouldve hated to see you asking in person and getting PWNED by every other volunteer ;x

Amen to that dude.

Poliwag92
08/17/2005, 09:25 AM
ok then I would have "PWNED" them back. If it conflicts with prerelease or the LCQ I wont volunteer, only if its like during the day on saturday

nika
08/17/2005, 09:31 AM
Poliwag92, don't listen to Burninating_Torchic. He has no idea what he's talking about. You CAN receive compensation for volunteering. For example let me use a quote from M_Liesik about volunteers at the Chicago convention that happened this past month:

"They need 2 volunteers per day. You will receive 6 boosters per hour worked, and NoA will pay to get you into the show."

Thank you i wanted proof of yes or no and not to be dissed online. Thank you now i know. Well since the netherlands gang are probably in the air now, guess ?i cant get an official answer. should be good. guys please dont "PWNED" me :frown:  and i am sure someone else has the same question

Crosplat

Nika don't diss other people online. If you are going to do that do it in person. Poliwag92 We won't pwn you.

that was a dumb question I asked and I sincerely regret it. I am sorry to make anyone mad. Could we just leave this in the past and move on...
