it depends on the local station. they may choose to run things differently

Yes, it's Eastern Time, that's what the ET stands for, I use ET as opposed to other time zones because that's the network standard. And if you're in Central (CT), Mountain (MT), or Pacific (PT) you should already know your schedule when it airs on your local WB station.

Those of you who don't have a WB station, how do you watch Pokémon? Does some other local station air it or do you watch on cable/dish?
I know not all markets have a WB, so I'm just wondering.

Yeah, but not as good as Butch and Cassidy or the other Rocket Teams...they were actually entertaining.

Team Rocket is wearing its welcome thin...what are the odds of Meowth being transferred to team with Butch and Cassidy, or Annie and Oakley??? That would be TOO COOL.

I agree kick them out, and there would be plot if they'd use different villain types each episode. It would be more interesting with variety. I understand why Meowth is kept around, so he can tell everyone what the other Pokémon are saying. But they could have a new talking Pokémon that befriends Max and becomes his first Pokémon, that would be interesting and a really great idea.
There's so many ways they could go without Team Rocket, and we wouldn't miss them at all.

I thought when they were introduced they were supposed to become a more major element to the storyline, instead of just going after certain rare items occasionally. They're very underused.

10/29/2005, 09:54 AM
So uh, was Tate a boy in the original Japanese version as well? I mean, they turned Vashou into a woman for no real reason, so 4Kids might have decided it would be a "good" (read: stupid) idea to change another character's gender.

Kind of like the "questionable" side of anime that's usually edited out of US episodes?

Anyway...

Great episode, excellent Gym Battle.

Team Rocket doesn't learn from their mistakes, they keep trying even though they know it always ends in disaster for them. Kind of like Wile E Coyote with Road Runner. Wonder if Team Rocket will ever win once like WEC did when he was finally able to catch RR, only RR was giant and WEC said "what am I supposed to do with him now?". WPM, it would be great if after each new episode airs here in the US, and anything has been changed from the original if you would please post it in this thread, it's interesting to actually know the differences if there are any.
This might be an idea to add to your website for all the episodes and movies, I'm sure everyone would enjoy having the changes documented, it's always nice to have additional info and knowledge about a favorite show.

Yeah, that's them, the S17, S18,and S19. How many minutes long are they usually?
That did seem kind of out of order when they aired the Misty in princessland episodes, like side/detour episodes. Why don't they air those as specials here, like they did when they aired the Deoxys movie?
They should make a DVD with all those S episodes, in English for the North American market, then we could finally see them.

If no one else is going to say it I will, I didn't like it except for May winning another ribbon and when she beat that idiotic bully and put him in his place. That harley guy was totally creepy. *ewww*

Claydol was a really good episode, I enjoyed it. Even Team Rocket was funny, they should be like this more often.

And you know what question is coming...
Did the original version have the song included during TR's spiraling descent?

Was that a real Claydol or not? That never actually got resolved for some reason...

Gotta see this episode.

Needless to say, hearing the name Samantha was a bit odd for me, considering Sam in SS and all. Little bit of a double take since I hadn't fully woken up as I was watching the episode (and as a result missed the last half, but whatever).

Oh, and Ludicolo's expression was priceless.

Pokémon is the only one for me.

The WB here airs ER and two episodes of 8 Rules, so I don't know what the other show could possibly be that you get instead. They should have continued the Aftertoons shows.
And the four Pokémon episodes airing Sat and Sun on the Cartoon Network aren't new episodes are they? So if you don't see or tape the new episodes on Sat WB you're out of luck, which isn't exactly fair. And that WB/UPN combo is just a bad idea.

I'm reminded of how much writing battles in SS spoils me. I write coordinated 2v2 with master-level trainers using detailed, effective strategies... and then I watch a random mishmash of battle with unevolved Pokémon and bad trainers using no discernable strategy.

Here's hoping the quality of Ash's opponents increases as he goes through the League. Makes me wonder how some of those guys got eight badges, the way they were battling. Such potential wasted. :\

Well, given that I'd assume trainers at a League championship level to have a full team, I'd say yes, but it's really up in the air. I'm too lazy to go look it up, so I honestly don't know if he has more than just his Puss In Boots.

I wouldn't put it past the writers of the animé to make that Meowth his only Pokémon though... they've proven themselves terrible writers many times over by now.

I could just cheat and look up how he does, but I'd rather not do that. Besides, it's not like Ash can even make the finals, he sucks too much to do that (maybe if he had his pre-RuSa team he could manage it with Snorlax and Charizard). In any case, my money's on him making top 16, then getting beaten by someone totally random.

EXACTLY!!!

And another thing, look at Morrison's party, he gots a SWAMPERT! STEELIX! Metang! *fill empty space here*

What does Ash have? Corphish <--- EVOLVE ALREADY! I predict its going to evolve in its next battle.
Pikachu! (What CANT this furball do?)
Swellow! (Yeah...right)
Grovyle <--- I predict the same for Grovyle (See Corphish)
Glalie <---- Hm..intetesting
Torkoal <--- Needs an emotional councelor

So IMO, Ash's party is not so good. He might get through all the premilinaries and stuff. But the Elite 4, he wont even make it to Steven.

Prove me wrong! Don't get me wrong, I'm cheering for Ash and all, but his party doesn't have what it takes. I would replace Torkoal and Corphish for Charizard and Snorlax. Hell I would even use Meganium (come on Bayleaf should have evolved by now to).

Go Ash! He's been screwed twice before! WIN HOEN!

Marril
03/13/2006, 11:22 PM
You have more faith in Ash than I do. Personally I see him as a terrible trainer and can't comprehend how he could even win one match against a competent gym leader, let alone a League Preliminary. He has had terrible few good Pokémon over the years, the majority of which he's released in favour of bad Pokémon (his best Pokémon statistically, currently, is probably a toss-up between Torkoal and Glalie). Compound that with a terrible battle strategy... and you just get a really bad trainer. He doesn't deserve to place anywhere in the top 64.

Green/Richie was a better trainer than him. Brock, being an ex-gym leader, is better than him. Even Misty is better than him now (that Gyarados was fierce). Gold/Kenta is a better trainer than him, for cripes sake, and his team is, like, Typhlosion and Beedrill. Gary is infinitely better than he'll ever be.

Remember though, Ash focuses entirely on some undefinable "bond" between him and his Pokémon to win, which is admirable, but he has no talent to back it up.

What are you talking about? I tape the episodes and just watched them this morning(saw your post last night). They both had lost 3 Pokémon out of a 6 Pokémon battle.

When the field changed, Katie had lost Misdreavus and Dugtrio and Ash had lost Torkoal, Glalie, and Pikachu.

After the field change, Katie lost Venomoth and Golduck. She then lost Scizor, and finally lost Walrein, with Ash losing Corphish and Swellow.

4Kids said it right.

I do the same and just saw it today as well.

Poke-mom is right, they said it wrong. If you look at the screen where each trainer's party was being shown (they showed it while they said that) they had already been knocked out.

They messed up.

I think Morrison VS. Ash is going to be a tie. One of those double KO issues. But Ash will win, and if he doesn't, that just sucks majorly.

Katie annoyed me perhaps more than any other random trainer Ash has fought in a League match. She was doing so well, not too much below SS' calibre, and then started to inexplicably... suck. There's no other word for it except that her strategy started to break down for no tangible reason and she started making mistake after mistake. It was a cheesy win for Ash that seemed for all reasons forced. There was no major effort on Ash's part to win past what he normally puts into battles.

Then again, after that horrendously black-box win I wrote Alex/Tschel as having against Tate/Liza, I can't really complain, but still... frustrates me when people start making writer-forced mistakes just to allow a protagonist to win a fight.

That whole episode was riddled with errors. I did notice Brock say that, it caused me to look up and go wtf? Meta with Solar Beam... I didnt think it could learn that!!!

Did you notice that Ash on at least 2 different occasions used Thunder vs Meowth in Boots Thunder Bolt, and the announcer kept saying who each of the Thunder Bolts collidied? I know I heard Ash say Thunder! Stupid Pikachu deserved to loose if it disobeyed and used Tbolt instead!!!

And Muk man, you forget Ash's win in the Orange Islands!!! He seems to only slightly improve everytime. He was like what, top 16 in Kanto? Top 8 in Johto? and now top 4 in Hoenn. Also remember that he made it that far in Hoenn without the aid of his old Pokemon with the exception of level 255 Pikachu (thank you missingno glitch!). If he'd pulled Charizard, Turos, Muk ect. out, who knows, he might of won it all. But he decided to start from scratch and he made top 4, heck almost top 2. I was in utter shock when I saw Mewoth start to go down. I knew Ash wouldnt win, it was easy to predict. But I hesitated that thought when I saw Meowth start to keel over, and then just as I thought no way!!! Pika fainted.

The moral they are trying to display is that there is always someone better, and to never give up and keep improving yourself. How would you get that message out if Ash won every battle he was in, and every tourny. You would show kids how to be cocky and arrogant, and thats what we have Yu-Gi-Oh for:thumb:

BTW, i about had a heart attack when I saw Swellow grab Donphan mid Roll Out!!! Haryama was one thing, but frrigging Swellow.... this new series has continued to suprise me with its interesting, but very disturbing, attack combos and new techniques.... Using Thunder on his own Swellow still takes the cake though

LMAO!!!

I just finished watching it, and yeah, so many errors. WHY ASH WHY!!?? He gets screwed again!!!

He better win the next one...next year..or whenever.

Pika
Chari
Muk/Heracross
Tauros/Swellow/Snorlax
Grovyle
Either Squirtle, Tot, or Corpish

I wouldnt add Corpish, but after watching it Crab hammer head to head with Focus Punches from Swampert and I think Hariyama, and the Water Poke rounds out the team. He's caught some awsome Pokes in the American Anime, and he's gonna get a few new ones soon too from what I read ahead on in Japanese plots. This is the team I would use if I had Ash's Pokes come Hoenn League time, switching where I felt needed! course I woulda ditched Pika a looooooong time ago, but whatver....

Primeape
Snorlax
Butterfree
Tauros
Muk

Guess that was the last April Fools joke the WB will be playing.

Now I'm wondering if the WB skipped those three episodes just for their April Fools joke...
There was nothing offensive in either of those two episodes they aired April 1, so no obvious reason to skip them other than their April Fools joke.

The 3rd skipped episode is the first episode airing April 8.

Marril
04/08/2006, 03:08 PM
You're forgetting that the one girl had a Jynx. That was the Pokémon that was somehow deemed "offensive to black people." I can't fathom why they wouldn't show it just because of that, but it might explain the delay in the showing.

That said, the whole continuity junk the second episode set up with the Battle Frontier and with Team Rocket puts some more holes into SS (sadly it can't work the other way around), but eh, what do I care, I do a better job of handling Team Rocket than the animé does. That said, be interesting to see Ash headed to my Neo League and get slaughtered by pure talent, as opposed to cheating his way through Battle Frontier like he's done with the past few Leagues. >_>

Yes, I am shamelessly plugging.

Yet more Mewtwo junk to harass the original plotline I came up with... fun.

Well, remember, these writers first had Lugia be a kind of "god of gods" which could only be called by capturing the three bird gods, and then had the thing have a baby later on in the series, so consistency is not their main goal.

Shiloh Phoenix
04/16/2006, 12:59 AM

Marril
04/16/2006, 01:08 AM
Well, the first one is definitely canon, seeing as in one episode you saw Mewtwo's rather flashy escape from Giovanni as all his armour was blowing off. The rest, eh, can't say much about them.

This is why I don't like the animé. It keeps on bringing in legendaries where they don't belong. Whatever became of, "Do not catch a god of thunder, a god of fire, or a god of ice. If you do, the marine god shall <something about heaven and earth> and everything shall fall into ruin"? You know, that prophecy that Jirarudan/Lawrence III nearly destroyed the world ignoring?

Legendaries are supposed to be legendary, which means that whenever they pop up, you know something serious is happening, not just that Ash's admittedly overpowered Charizard (which is in its own way a good thing, since it's his only decent Pokémon) can fight something that it can barely defeat.

Standard filler, again Team Rocket is too stupid to just take the rat and run when they have a chance. As Much As U may think that is a good idea... It isnt... there is a good chance that if u cancel the TV Show... that a lot of ppl wont know or wont continue to play them game... Most of the Players in the 10- and some in then 11-14, only find out about pokemon on TV, and then decide to try the card game or try to find pokemon that they see on TV... No Show Means... that in 5-6 years - If The Game goes that long... There will be a very little 10- and 11-14 Division cause everyone will be in 15+ cause no one will join the game... or not enough to matter...

That is one ungodly powerful Squirtle. I mean, it beat up a Weepinbell with a damned Tackle attack. That is a stat impossibility to rival Charlie Evans in Pokémon SS.

I also found the bit with the Cacnea hug to be quite funny. Hugging a cactus would hurt so much, yet she still did it anyway. That's dedication, and I'd say she deserved to win based on that alone.

Jessie's hair cut is interesting, but I guess I'm old fashioned because I'm looking forward to the return to her old 'do.

Remember when Totodile chopped off her hair? Gosh, Jessie goes through a lot.

Think about this though: sure we Cartoon Network-goers get new episodes, but they're with the new voice overs...UUUUGGGGGHHH!!!

And hey, fans can go meet the new voices of Brock and Ash at Comic-Con next week. Yippie-Skippie!!

Wow. I wasn't able to be home to watch Saturday's Episode, but I record Saturday Morning Cartoons anyway to watch at my leisure... so of course the power winked out and it messed up the VCR so it didn't record. XD

Oh, and like many people who don't like saying it, I don't have cable. Bummer.
