Until now, we have many rainbow-like energies like Rainbow Energy, Crystal Energy, Multi Energy and Mracle Energy. Each have their very own upside & downside.

Rainbow energy can save space, but you have to endure the pain when attaching it. Multi Energy is for you if you don't want the pain, but you can't have another special energy card on the same Pokemon.

Discuss about them here.

I like multi energy the best because I dont like taking one damage from rainbow

It really depends on the deck. If you only need one Energy of the type, Multi's fine. If you need the ability to have 2, Rainbow. Plus, that damage counter can sometimes be helpful. I don't like Crystal Energy at all. Thanks to the new ruling regarding the E-dogs and Rainbow-like Energies, I bet we'll be seeing Multi Energy fairly often as a way to power them.

Rainbow energy: Rainbow energy are usually useful if you play shining pokemon or pokemon that require special energy. Unfortunately, the damage counter you take can mean the diffrence between you getting ko'ed and having the 1 turn to retreat or finish the opponent off.
Multi energy:Multi energy is most useful with type to type evolutions((w) poliwhirl to (f) poliwrath) where you need (w) energy for 1 stage and (f) energy for another stage. Great when you don't want to trash all of your energies.
Crystal energy: a nice several card combo can come from the Cannonball Delcatty and Crystal energy. You can have Lady outing, a way of discarding energies, and Delcatty's energy call attack and crystal energy. If you can get 3-4 types of energy on Delcatty(Hence the Lady outing), then your Crystal energy adds 30-40 damage for each crystal energy on it for the cannonball attack, because of it's look for energies(not cards).

Thing is, Crystal still only provides one Energy -- it's just multi-colored. Nice try, though.

you forgot mirical engery... lol.
once multi engery was out I pretty much see rainbow engery as not as neaded as it once was, but i would run multi in a two or three color deck, but rainbow on a deck with specal engery in it.

I thought Crystal provided one energy for every type of energy attached to the pokemon with it. Can you show me somewhere that shows the energy? Also, I've never seen a miracle energy or I would have put in my 2 cents on that too.

Crystal engery only provides one engery at a time, however it basicly copys whatever basic engery is attached to that pokemon, so if you have a figthing and fire and crystal engery, you have 3 total engery on that pokemon, but the crystal is able to be used for eather fighting or fire, so if your attack required fighting, fire, fire, this would cover it; but if it neaded fighting, fighting, fire, fire, you would nead 1 more engery on it.
Basicly all engery cards that porvide more then one type (color) of engery only provide 1 engery at a time, otherwise crystal engery could provide alot of engery and become quickly broken, not that i would mind lol.

... although from the wording of crystal engery one could augure that it provides more then just 1 engery at a time, humm...

Also, the card just has a picture of one Energy "sphere" on it.

Multi Energy should be used in multicolor deck or metal/dark deck, but not approprite for Pokemon that requires more than 1 special energy to attack.

At first you think, yeah multi energy nnniiiice, then the drawback, if your using spec energy cards or itself again, bang it pops back to :colorless . I'd use rainbow more in special (dark and steel) type poke decks, especially steel for obvious reasons. Crystal, there's not many attacks with a single colour charge around that can't be teched another way is there? and would you run two of them in the same deck anyways? Rainbow and multi are quite useful combo'd, again especially in steel decks. Rainbow/multi 50/50 crystal FIB
