Mize - To completely crush the oponent.
n00b - A player unexperienced in the game.
Scrubs - A player who engages in a number of bad behaviors. Most scrubs are new players, but some are experienced. Some of the bad behaviors are deck copying, bad sportsmanship, and whining about "broken" cards in Pokemon (seriously).
Veteran - A seasoned knowledgable player of Pokémon

15/3 format - A format tried at the ECSTS 2000. Decks were restricted to 15 trainers (unlimited in other formats) and no more than 3 cards of one type (4 in other formats). Wasn't well recieved and therefore scrapped.
Draft format - Players don't bring their own deck to the tournament, but are given booster packs and can borrow basic energy cards at the venue. The players (preferably 8) sit down at a table with 5 booster packs each of Pokémon cards. Packs should be from two different sets that compliment each other (Base 2-only drafts also work fine). Meaning they have evolution chains that work for both sets. All players open their first pack of cards at the same time. Everyone then takes one card from the pack they just opened and passes the rest of the cards in that pack to the person on their right who picks a card and passes the rest on to the right etc until the cars run out (Basic energy cards are discarded). Then the players open a second pack and repeat the process, but this time passing to the left instead of the right. Deck size is smaller than ususal (40 cards - 4 prizes).
Modified format - Also known as the E-on (Expedition-on) format. Cards that were released prior to the Expedition exspansion are not allowed in this format, but anything after that is fare game, except and promo's of said cards. Black Star Promo's are not allowed (except for the numbers 001-on). Re-released cards are aloud (ie, Switch, Potion etc.).
Unlimited- All cards except Birthday Pika and Anciect Mew
STS - Super Trainer Showdown
STSQ - Super Trainer Showdown Qualifier
ECSTS - East Coast Super Trainer Showdown
WCSTS - West Coast Super Trainer Showdown
Professor - a professional/15+ player that has undergone a specific test to become a Professor. ("Professional Pokémon TCG player"?)
711 - The room you (originally Seena Ghazaiskar and Matt Moss?) stayed in at hotel when you've won a major tournament

Baby Killer - An attack or Pokémon that can damage an opponent's benched Pokémon for 30 or more damage.
Broken Card - A card that "breaks" the carefully balanced playing environment in a TCG. In theory, any card that exceeds the average power given its circumstances. In practice, it refers to cards that have severely disporportionate power compared to the amount of effort needed to play the card. Neo Genesis Sneasel is by many regarded as a broken card (at least in the Modified format), but not everyone agrees with this. Among certain players, broken is simply used to mean "really good or effective".
Crutch - An easy to use card, particularly when such cards are heavily used. NG Sneasel is a perfect example. The term is derived from the fact that a player depends on the crutch cards to carry their bad deck to victory, much like a person uses a real crutch to carry themselves around on a bad leg.
Metagame - What everyone is playing in the area in question. If a good deck(type) is established, other "counter"-decks will develop to try to break the dominance.
Pull - Slang for getting a card in a booster (e.g. "I pulled a 1st Ed. Charizard!!!")
Tech - A card that is put in a deck in a quantity of 1 or 2 to deal with specific threats (such as putting in Pichu to a non-PP deck to deal with common PPs or Wooper/Magmar in a Grass deck to deal with Weakness/Resistance).
Undermetagamed - When a decks against a certain dominating decktype haven't been developed so that the dominating deck is able to run rampant.
Whammy - A card that does major Energy damage (Hoo-hoo... How about Super Energy Removal, Misty's Golduck, or Shining Gyarados?)
Bling-Bling- Reverse Holofoil

Archetype deck: A particular distinctive type of deck. There may be a vast ammount of different ones but they'll all have the same core strategies, i.e. Raindance.
Precon: Preconstructed Deck, which Wizards of the Coast usually releases with a new expansion to demonstrate new mechanics.
Rogue deck: A deck that not only isn't an archetype, but is deliberately trying to do something different and unexpected.
Xerox deck: A deck which is a blatant copy of one found in numerous online deck garages/listings

Below are few archetype decks, more have been mentioned, but I'm only listing the "major" and well defined decks.

Big Fire deck: A Big Fire deck usually refers to one based on Blaine's Arcanine who has a huge 120 point attack and uses the Fire Recharge Typlosion.

Feral deck: Based around Feraligatr (DownPour) together with Trash Exchange, Misty's Wrath, Double Gust & Focus Band. The idea is to keep moving water energy cards to the discard pile, as the Feraligatr attack "Riptide" does 10 damage plus ten times the number of water energy cards in the discard pile. After the attack the Water energy cards in the discard pile are shuffled into the deck... A subvariant is Gatrsect deck that uses Neo Revelations Parasect which has a Pokémon Power that makes all cards stay in the discard after Riptide.

Cleaner / Turbo Pup Deck: Centered around Arcanine's attack Take Down. Sometimes Canine is brought out early and healed w/ Gold Berry while consistently using Take Down. Pokemon: Growlithe, Arcanine, Fossil Magmar, Electabuzz, R. Oddish( sometimes), Scyther, Rocket Zapdos, Lickitung, Ditto, etc.

Haymaker deck: Focuses on big basic Pokémon (BBP) with quick, energy-efficient attacks and relatively high HP. It was named after Hitmonchan, the original basis of the deck, "Haymaker" is Hitmonchans first attack when translated from Japenese. (A haymaker is a general term for a Knockout punch in boxing.) Main Pokemon: Hitmonchan, Scyther, Electabuzz, Sneasel, Gligar, TR Zapdos, Fossil Magmar, Sometimes TR Scyther, Farfetch'd. A subvariant is the Sponge deck which includes Movie Promo Mewtwo.

Mindgames deck (or Dunce deck) : Use Slowking and Chaos gym to make the opponent have a 25% of playing trainers and often giving you the trainers. You have a 50% of playing trainers but that's better than none.
Main Pokemon: Cleffa, Sneasel, Chansey, Slowking, and Slowpoke.

Raindance Deck: A Raindance deck is a Water-type deck based around Blastoise, and other Water Pokémon with attacks that do a lot of damage. The main focus is to use Blastoise's Pokémon Power to get a lot of energy on Pokémon like Dewgong, Articuno, and Gyarados as fast as possible. The deck was named after Blastoise's Pokémon Power, Rain Dance. Main Pokemon: Blastoise, Squirtle(preferably TR), Fossil Articuno, Lapras, Ditto.

Sir-Flip-A-Lot: Deck abusing Giovanni's Machamp and Focus Band.

Stall deck: Uses high HP Pokemon like Chansey and Lickitung to stall while maxing out on (Super) Eenergy Removal, Scoop Up, Pokémon Center, and Item Finder. Tries to deck the opponent. Moltres is usually included to make the opponents deck even faster, and to get rid of important anti-decking cards like Lass and Nightly Garbage Run. Fossil Magmar, Erikas Dratini, and Scyther are also common.

Trap Deck: Meant to leave your opponent with little or no options on their first turn by using The Rocket's Trap, Imposter Oaks Revenge, and Rocket's Sneak Attack, other variants uses Aerodactyl, Dark Vileplume, Murkrow .

Crack Monkey: an impossibly strong deck. i.e. Sneaking.

Ungodly Luck: When a weenie knocks out a fully powered up Uuber. IE When a Dunsparce flips seven heads and KO's a fully powered up Blaziken ;)

How 'bout "Splashable" and "Rogued"? I think those should be included. Also, how come Skridge came to be SK instead of SR?

And hey, I always thought SER stood for Steven Edward Reich. ;)

Thanks for throwing in PIRN, though.

Hey! Where's El Juapo?!?

El Juapo: When you do a ridiculous amount of damage on one of your opponent's Active Pokemon.

Example of definition: Lava Flow Macargo w/12 energies attached to it and your opponent has a 40 HP Bellsprout in play. Remove all 12 energies to Macargo to do a grand total of 560 points of damage to a 40 HP Basic. Causing a grand total of 520 points of damage(40+240 {12 fire energies remove with each energy removed does 20 extra damage) tines two for weakness for fire).

That's an El Juapo from my old school days.

Spectreon
11/18/2003, 09:59 AM
El Juapo-
Sounds like the time I flipped 11 heads using Fighting Omastar against a Smeargle. I sat their admiring my 240 damage when I released I was fighting and Smeargle was weak..... oops, 480, and 430 to much.... it was fun.

So what is Dragons slimmed down too? DR?

For all u Brits out there, I added a side note to make SS a little less offensive.

Now why would the prefix ss (steam ship) be offensive to brits? After all the worlds first screw driven iron hulled vessel was the SS Great Britain. Check her out at http://www.ss-great-britain.com

What offends me more is nobody remebers SPONGE as a deck type :(

A correction to make:

The Cleaner is not just a deck based around Base Arcanine. It is a status effect deck created by The Impossible Man and used pokémon like Base Koffing and Tangela to draw out opponents' ERs. After some KOs by the status effect pokémon, the Stage 1 Cleaner (traditionally Base Arcanine) would come down to clean the bench or the prizes. The original versions of the deck contained no rares.

Any Stage 1 (or basic if it has a baby form) pokémon that could consistently deal out 50+ damage a turn was eligible for the Cleaner role.

Kingdra Center (also referred to as KingCenter) - a deck whose primary strategy is to use Kingdra from the Neo Revelation set (because of the Genetic Memory attack and Kingdra also has no weakness) and Pokemon Center to heal massive amounts of damage. Hi SwampertEx,

do you know what "ex" stands for?

every new set is called like "ex" team rocket retuns (expansion?)

and what is the meaning of "ex" at the cards like "Latios ex"

Thanks already for your help,

Greetings John

Dom

It means Extra.

Also the "Dark" bit in the types is wrong. Darkness is the type, Dark is what it is refered to as, not the other way around.

But this is a fairly useful list... not that I didn't know most of it already but well, yeh w/e its good.

Hi SwampertEx,

do you know what "ex" stands for?

every new set is called like "ex" team rocket retuns (expansion?)

and what is the meaning of "ex" at the cards like "Latios ex"

Thanks already for your help,

Greetings John

there is not really anything that ex stands for to my knowledge...

the ex cards are special cards which are quite rare and (at times) can be pretty powerful. the difficulty is that if these pokemon are knocked out, your opponent takes 2 prizes.

as for the set titles, all the EX sets have some sort of ex in them somewhere, so that kinda emphasises it.

hope that helps....

Blackmail should be added to the list for deck types(Custom Made by me, with lots of care, ok took me an hour to make the deck including putting it into sleeves) took 3rd in state though. might have had first, had i taken down micheal P. lol, one heck of a good fight though. anyway, Utah Regionals may be facing this deck, or a deck im making to counter ALL rogue decks and Rock Lock(including Anti Rock lock), its quite fun :D
You're going to need to give a description of the actual deck and not just what snack you were eating while you sleeved the cards if you want to keep it in the encyclopedia.

"Ex" stands for "Extra", "Extraodinary", "Excellent", etc.

They used "ex" instead of "X" so that they wouldn't get sued by Marvel.

I can see it now:

To compliment the stickied post that we all know and love, I offer you Pokegym members a 2004-2005 edition of The Encyclopedia of Pokemon Terminology! =)

Warning: Some entries, although legal by board-filter standards, may seem inappropriate. Preserving the name is the most important part of preserving historical accuracy, but I have potentially offensive terms whited out (only one or two), with only the descriptions listed.

I'm going to start it off small. So tell me what you guys think, and if I should add more entries (no submissions, please =O)!
:D

The Encyclopedia of Pokemon Terminology: 2004-2005 Edition

Attacks/Poke-Powers/Poke-Bodies/Retreat Costs/etc

SARs: acronym for Dunsparce (Sandstorm)'s first attack, "Strike and Run." This nickname stems back as far as 2003. Some reports suggest that the in/famous Poke-Neo (READ: Poke-Neo) originally used it

'starter: Blaziken RSH's "firestarter" Poke-Power. EX: "I 'starter to ray, multi, retreat, 80 GG."

Trans: "Energy Trans," on both Venusaur ex and Sceptile Ru/Sa Rare.

Pokemon/Nicknames

_EX: easy-to-say acronyms for ex Pokemon. There are too many to list, but the most notable examples include _S_EX (multiple ex pokemon starting with the letter S), _CH_EX (Charizard ex), _B_EX (typically blaziken ex. Can be interchangeable with Blastoise ex), and _BL_ex (typically Blastoise ex. Can be interchangeable with Blaziken ex).

"Garde": Typically referring to Gardevoir RSH, Gardevoir ex SS, and/or Gardevoir EM.

(La) Reina/Reinita: Literally translated into "the queen" for spanish. The name of TO (READ: TO)'s top secret deck that won worlds.

Ray-Ray: Affectionate nickname for any Rayquaza card, but typically reserved only for Rayquaza ex DRG and Rayquaza ex DX.

Sally: "Salamence."

WalREIGN: Walrein, when in a deck that particularly owns for water standards.

Decks

Rock-Lock/Neverland: A deck that initially started out as a Japanese concept. ToysRusKid was the first to test this deck, and due to his success with it, it quickly spread after the Dark Ampharos errata, and won numerous City Championships of its own. The concept was simple: have a Dark Tyranitar dual-type active with one energy, using atm (rock) over and over again with a Dark Ampharos on the bench, thus forcing your opponent into damage repeatedly. The deck saw vast improvements, with many known players taking and revamping it, including Martin Moreno's addition of Jirachi HL and swoop! teleporter as a consistency booster and mirror winner, as well as Patriarch/TRUK/Plaidlesspez's addition of Jirachi Deoxys as a simple consistency "cushion." However, the sweeping reforms were in the hands of Bigchuck01. Not only did he first coin the deck's name, but also combined the two successful ideas aforementioned into the most consistent rock-lock yet, "Chuck-Lock."

Notable placings; 1st at multiple cities and states, 1st at two regionals, 1st at multiple GC's, T8 at worlds 2005.

Four Courners: By far, the deck born more ill-conceived than any other in the format's history. Initially made by Patriarch at 3AM, this crazy concept revolved around recycling the same Pokemon line (all 1-1's except for Magargo DX) over and over again, thus always having an answer to almost every deck in the metagame. Although it experienced only modest success, it eventually turned into "four corners," a more-focused, Lanturn-oriented version of the deck. This beast went onto gain many high placings at regionals, including a 1st.

Notable placings: 1st @ cities, and 1st @ regionals.

ZapDOS: No more simple name to "officially" title it than that. The deck's premise is to use elekid/voltorb/electrike to pull an energy card from the deck after attaching one previously. Then, on the second turn, play Zapdos ex, use legendary ascent to bring it and the two previous lightnings into active position, then attach a third and final energy for T2 50-70. It most likely has the most incarnations of any deck name, including, but not limited to: Donk-dos, Luck-dos, Zap-Turn-Dos, Lame-Dos, Crap-dos, etcetc. Its origins are unknown, but there are conflicting rumors as to whether the deck was initially made what it is today by Poke-Neo members, TO members, or simply a lesser-known player. However, it achieved the height of its fame in the hands of Los Angelos Pokemon Players, Frankie Durso, and European Pokemon players.

Notable placings: 1st at multiple cities, 1st at multiple reg's, 4th at US nats, T32 at worlds.

Organizations

Pojo: A recently revived community of Pokemon TCG. Once the forefront of the Pokemon TCG community, it became the underdog. However, thanks to a temporary surge of popular players writing for the website, Pojo's Pokemon saw a permanent rise in popularity.

Pokegym: A website which is virtually the center of all news related to the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It is a marketplace of ideas, run by Team Compendium members, and frequented by all types of players.

Poke-Neo/Neo: Board advertised as where the "best in the world" went to test and talk decks. Due to simple lack of interest, overly-generous/strict entrance requirements, and a false identity of corruption created by Darkjake/Linkmaster/R0kman, the website collapsed. The status of its former members is a huge "MIA."

Pokemon Organized Play (POP): the organization that runs all Pokemon TCG tournaments. Although a few rare controversies arose, POP's overall success with the game has been highly acclaimed by the vast majority of its players.

Team Compendium: Group of rules experts that frequently meet with official Pokemon Organized Play individuals to discuss the latest rulings.

Team Allah: Elite playtesing team mainly consisting of returning players, including Matt Moss/Ness/Bigchuck01/The Ghaz Factor/Chris Fulop/Matt Toeniskoetter. Retired members are Chris Fulop and Seena Ghaziaskar. Interesting trivia: only two of these six teammates are not banned from Pokegym: Moss and Toeniskoetter.

Team Ownage: Another elite team that branched off from Neo. Current members include Venusaur, Plaidlesspez, and Mudkip. Temporarily or permanently inactive/banned members include JasonthePwnda, Patriarch, and The Ghaz Factor. For an in-depth read into "TO"s history, read Venusaur's worlds report.

....SoOoOoOo...what do you guys think of it so far? I like it, quite frankly, and I hope that you do, too. =)

<---feels like an idiot

ok pokepop.
It is where you use powers, such as shedinja(DR) ninjask(DX) ursaring(UF) and Dark Amphy, the idea is to FORCE them to evolve and take damage
a vareint is shedinja and dark ampheros and dark t-tar.(seems liek typical rock lock) but what you do is make your oppenents stay basic to hit shedinja, then T-tar is moved up for Sand Damage, if they decided to evolve and avoid sand damage, u move anothe shedinja up, and Rock them :)(the idea is to keep shedinja as an incentive to stay basic lol)

Are there any plans to update/eliminate this thread?

I find it a bit odd that it's a sticky that hasn't been updated since 08/29/2004. The thread creator's sig shows that he's not going to update this (outmoded) thread. Perhaps a Mod can eliminate this thread and let someone make a new Encyclopedia.

I like giving a link to this thread to noobs, but I'm a little hesitant, as it has been outdated for quite a while.

I was looking at the Pokemon Terminology Thread and saw how out of date it was so
I thought it was time for a NEW Pokemon Terminology Thread...
Off We go:

-Status Conditions/Markers:

-Poisoned: The pokemon receives 1 damage counter after each players turn unless it retreats, evolves, a card that can move the pokemon to the bench is played, or a status healing card is played.

-Asleep: The player flips a coin after each players turn. If a heads is flipped the pokemon is awake, if tails the pokemon remains asleep. If a Pokemon is asleep they can't attack or retreat. You can cure sleep by evolving, a card that can move the pokemon to the bench is played, or playing a status healing card.

-Confusion: The player flips a coin whenever they try to attack with a confused pokemon. If heads, the attack goes off normally, if tails, the pokemon receives 3 damage counters. Confusion can be removed by retreating, evolving, a card that can move the pokemon to the bench is played, or by playing a status healing card.

-Burned: When a pokemon is burned, the player flips a coin after every turn, if heads nothing happens, if tails the pokemon receives 2 damage counters unless otherwise stated. Burn can be removed by retreating, evolving, a card that can move the pokemon to the bench is played, or by playing a status healing card.

-Paralysis- When a pokemon is paralyzed, they can not attack on the turn that they are paralyzed. They become un-paralyzed when the player ends their turn, the pokemon evolves, a card that can move the pokemon to the bench is played, or a status healing card is played

-Imprison Counter: If a pokemon has an imprison counter on them they can not use any pokemon powers or pokemon bodies until they evolve, leave the playing field completely, or a card is played to get rid of the counter(i.e. Tropius Dragon Frontiers).

-Shockwave Marker: A Shockwave counter is placed by Tyranitar delta ex’s first attack. The pokemon with a shockwave marker can be knocked out automatically by Tyranitar’s third attack. However, a Shockwave Marker can be removed by evolving, leaving the playing field completely, or a card that gets rid of the counter(i.e Tropius Dragon Frontiers).

The Following Are Credited To Swampert_Ex since I couldn’t explain it better myself:

-Scrubs - A player who engages in a number of bad behaviors. Most scrubs are new players, but some are experienced. Some of the bad behaviors are deck copying, bad sportsmanship, and whining about "broken" cards in Pokemon (seriously).

-Veteran or Pro - A seasoned knowledgable player of Pokémon

-Draft format - Players don't bring their own deck to the tournament, but are given booster packs and can borrow basic energy cards at the venue. The players (preferably 8) sit down at a table with 6 booster packs each of Pokémon cards. All players open their first pack of cards at the same time. Everyone then takes one card from the pack they just opened and passes the rest of the cards in that pack to the person on their right who picks a card and passes the rest on to the right etc until the cars run out Then the players open a second pack and repeat the process, but this time passing to the left instead of the right. Deck size is smaller than ususal (40 cards - 4 prizes).

-Current Modified format - Also known as the DX-on (Deoxys-on) format. Cards that were released prior to the Deoxys expansion aren’t allowed legal, but anything after that any card is legal, however, it has to be released in your countries language to be playable at tournaments. In addition, Re-printed cards are aloud (i.e. Potion, Energy Search).

-Unlimited- All cards ever released in a countries language except Anciect Mew.

-Professor - a professional 18+ player that has undergone a specific test to become a Professor..

-Metagame - What everyone is playing in the area in question. If a good deck(type) is established, other "counter"-decks will develop to try to break the dominance.

-Tech - A card that is put in a deck in a quantity of 1 or 2 to deal with specific threats (such as putting in a strength charm so you can get a One Hit Knock Out on a Pokemon that is usually just beyond the reach of a One Hit Knock Out.

-Precon: Preconstructed Deck. These are commonly released when a new expansion is released.

-Rogue deck: A deck that not only isn't an archetype, but is deliberately trying to do something different and unexpected.

-Archetype deck: A particular distinctive type of deck. There may be a vast amount of different ones but they'll all have the same core strategies.

Current archetypes in the DX-On Format:

Delta/RaiEggs- Raichu d/ Exeggutor d deck that player Martin Moreno played at US Nationals 2006. He went undefeated with a 14-0 record. The decks uses other decks use of pokemon powers and bodies to its advantage. With the release of cessation crystal, the deck can now damage your pokemon powers and bodies, while you won’t be able to use them.

For More Info On This Deck Visit: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43505

Destiny- Burst on to the scene at the State Championships in early 2007. This deck utilizes Mew Ex Legend Maker and various pokemon(like rayquaza ex d and exeggutor d) to beat the opponents with alarming speed. The founders of the deck, Jimmy Ballard and Zach Fisher, take great pride in their creation and stick by their comment that it is the best deck in the format.

For More Info On This Deck Visit: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?p=861604#post861604

R-Gon- The deck is Flygon delta/various delta pokemon It was originally used as a counter to the abundance of Flariados and Metanite roaming the Florida metagame, with cards like Holon GL and strength charm to beat Flariados, and lightning resistance to help against Metanite. The deck has evolved over the months and has changed its role as a metagame counter to a deck in the metagame that has become countered.- Credit Bolt

For More Info On This Deck Visit: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=53638

Flariados(Can also be called Donkados) : I am not entirely sure who came up with this deck(if anyone knows, please let me know), but it it involves Ariados Unseen Forces and Flareon Ex Delta Species. The idea of the deck is to use Ariados’s second attack, to bring up a pokemon from the bench or use it on the current active defending pokemon, and then on the next turn you play Flareon Ex and use it’s Pokemon Power, Evolutionary Flame, to make the defending Pokemon burned and confused, then you use Ariados’s first attack to do 70 damage for a single grass energy card.

For More Info On This Deck Visit: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=36379

Bandoom or Boom: The pokemon in this deck are Banette Ex Legend Maker and Houndoom Unseen Forces. The idea is to do as much damage as you can as fast as you can by discarding supporters from your hand by using other supporters such as TV Reporter and Holon Adventurer. With the release of Shuppet Crystal Guardians, the deck became a major threat at any tournament. The accompaniment to Banette Ex is Houndoom from Unseen Forces. With a small bench your opponent can only play supporters from there hand.

For More Info On This Deck Visit: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=46373

Metanite: This deck has been able to handle all the new cards(like Shiftry Ex Crystal Guardians) that were supposed to make it fall off the face of the earth. This is probably the most versatile deck in the current format. The main pokemon are Holon's Castform for setup, Dragonite d Delta Species and Metagross d Delta Species. This deck is the most versatile because any card in the format can be a tech in the deck. From Groudon Ex to Sceptile Ex d to Lugia Ex, this deck can accompany any pokemon.

MSNBC-Anyone who’s heard of LBS (http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30892) knows what we’re going for here. You want to start with one of your optimal starters Beldum, or Castform (B and C from before). With one of these and a Mentor, you can get your whole deck setup really nice. You want to get out a Nidoqueen ASAP, as well as a Steelix (or its earlier stage not worth mentioning), and pile energy on it. Get a Metagross DX or 2 in play, then retreat/Briney/Sacrifice the Castform and smash stuff with Steelix. Setup Latios*, Latios ex, and your other auxiliary attackers as needed.

Add Mewtrick(NO, it is not dead!)
It really is a figment of what it once was (I'm gonna hear it on Saturday now  )

TV = Town Volunteers
TVR = TV Reporter

Common shorthand for exs were to take the first letter of the name and and add -ex. So, Rex = Rayquaza ex (specifically Dragon, I think); Bex = Blaziken ex (also Dragon). Got some laughs when it came to Sceptile ex, but I think the practice has fallen from popularity. Haven't read or heard it in a long while.

I'm not aware of any recently. Like I said, I think the usage fell out of practice.

Birthday Pikachu is legal in Unlimited. There are no banned cards in Unlimited. Ancient Mew is just not playable because it was never released in English.

I was looking at the Pokemon Terminology Thread and saw how out of date it was so
I thought it was time for a NEW Pokemon Terminology Thread...
Off We go:

Thank You,

Bro,

That isn't how it works. You add to the original thread, not start a new one.

in addition to good game, GG has come to refer to the Garde/Gallade deck so common in this season's format.

Wow, this topic is pretty outdated.

I was going to refer a member here for info, but I think it would just confuse them.

Anyone want to start adding new terms so we can update this old thing?

Donk- is a 1st turn or 2nd turn KO
Mother Gengar- Nidoqueen (Rising Rivals)/Gengar (Stormfront)
Stallgon- Rhyperior lvl.x/ Flygon lvl.x
SP pokemon- Special Pokemon from Gym leaders
Call -Call Energy
Upper- Upper Energy
Lost Zone- Place where pokemon can't come back
Power Lock- shutting of pokepowers for a few turns
Speed Synergy- Pokemon that are used together only because they're fast and take little energy to do lots of damage (ex: Machamp (Stormfront) and Rampardos (Platinum).
Infernray- Luxray GL lvl.x with Infernape 4 lvl.x
Bench lock- limiting the opponent's bench with cards like Dusknoir (Diamond and Pearl) or Palkia G lvl.x
Total lockdown-- decks in Unlimited that don't go for OHKOs, but go for locking the opponent first and then KOing them slowly (ex: Aggron ex (Crystal Gaurdians)/ Dark Vileplume (Team Rocket)/Aerodactyl (Fossil))
Recovery- general term to use in order to get back in the game (ex.: hand recovery, energy recovery, etc.)
Flygon (Rising Rivals) + Machamp (Stormfront) = Flychamp
These are just some ideas to take into consideration. Take as many or as few as you'd like. I didn't look at the original post, but I hope this helps some.

Thanks! I just came back to the game literally yesterday (after 9 years of inactivity) and was reading around trying to figure out what some of these things meant (SP for example). Now I understand what they're talking about.

I just thought of some new ones:

"Chomp":
Used as a noun: Garchomp C. "Chomp X" means Garchomp C Lv. X. Example: "I benched Chomp." "I played Chomp X to Level Up my Chomp."
Used as a verb: To attack someone with Garchomp C Lv. X's Dragon Rush. "I Chomped Claydol for the KO."

"Turn": to play Team Galactic's Invention G-105 Poketurn. "I turned my Crobat G to my hand."

"Spray": Team Galactic's Invention G-103 Power Spray.
Used as a noun: "I drew my Spray."
Used as a verb: "I Sprayed my opponent's Cosmic Power.

"Belt": Expert Belt from Platinum: Arceus. "I drew a Belt." "I Belted my Pokemon."

Luxape: Infernape 4/Luxray GL
Blazeray: Blaziken FB/Luxray GL
Palkia Lock: Palkia G/Mesprits, usually includes some other tech, such as Luxray GL or Dialga G
SP Toolbox: A deck consisting of SP Pokemon, all of which can attack depending on the situation.
Speedrill: Beedrill GE/RR
Uxie Donk: Uxie, Unown R, Crobat G, Mr. Mime, and a whole bunch of trainers to go through the deck on the first turn.

"E-Gain": an abbreviation for Team Galactic's Invention G-101 Energy Gain.

I have one question about terms.

What does X-X-X mean?

For example, 2-2 Claydol.

Clearea Vystein
11/08/2010, 12:04 PM
In X-Y-Z <name of pokemon>

X is the basic.
Y is the Stage 1.
Z is the Stage 2.

The numbers in each spot correspond to how many cards are in that stage.

So, for 2-2 Claydol, it looks like X-Y.

2 in the X spot means that there are 2 cards of the basic form, or 2 Baltoys. And 2 in the Y mean 2 cards of the stage 1, which is Claydol.

2-1-2 Kingdra means 2 Horseas, 1 Seadra, and 2 Kingdras.
