Not trying to be mean here but how did you get this far into pokemon and not know anything about Swiss? Hint: In Basketball we call it Round Robin. The thing about Round Robin is you normally know all your oppenents. In swiss everyone gets to play all rounds till the finals but you play by rankings. Win and you play winners. Lose and you play the Losers. But try PM other professors and they might smooth it out for you.

how to determine the minimum number of rounds in swiss.

Number of participants = x
Minimum number of rounds = y

2^y = x

Just make sure you round up "x" to the nearest power of 2 (eg. if you had 15, you would assume "x" is 16. If you had 68, you would assume "x" is 128). Since the number of undefeated players is cut in half each round, you need at least "y" rounds- so that you can determine who the winner is without having to refer to tiebreakers.
