Vince is probably the Head Judge.

What else is there to yap about?

Yusuke Urameshi
02/24/2006, 07:35 PM
Well, we kind of need information. No one else put this up, and I wasn't going to wait for Pastimes to get off their lazy bums to do it. They never would. Vince, if you are Head Judge, I can't wait to meet you. Camille says you are like a PTO GOD. I can't believe there is a better PTO than Camille. Care to prove to me that there is? Your chance is at States, Vince. See you at States Poliwag.

More than likely, Vince is running this event. I too am surprised that there has been no official link to this yet. Since you took it upon yourself to put this up, could u please post the date/time/info for the event? That would be VERY helpful!

Yusuke Urameshi

1. The date is already up.
2. If I knew the time, I wouldn't be asking other people.
3. Read the first post carefully. I am stating that I need to know that information.

The link you have posted to their main website doesn't even have any mention of any Pokemon anywhere on it, and their Pokemon site (http://www.pastimes.net/pokemon.htm) doesn't either, at the moment. But since it's only 3 weeks away, I'm assuming at some point they'll update it. At any rate, you may want to change that link on the top here to their Pokemon site.

Yusuke Urameshi

Ok, Camille. I'll change it. I just copied and pasted what was on POP. I was told and POP was told that Illinois State Championship will be held on the 18th of March.

It's listed on the Events page, here: http://www.pastimes.net/events.htm

Hey, Vince, did they change the date? It says the 18th on the POP website, but the 19th on the Pastimes site. I need to know this cuz there might be a good amount of Urbana people coming up for this one, and possibly Manitowoc on Sunday. Thx!

No, sorry, you all have no idea.

The 10- judges for the IL State Championship will be......

Andrew K. 3rd place Nats 2005
James B. 2nd Place Nats 2005

Both have their title! I am not sure if Jimmy is running to IA or not, but I do know that I am getting James!

So, the judges, really, look like this:

Andrew K.
James B.
Ness (maybe)
Colin M. (if he wants to)
Me (cause I am that way!)

I also see they have a Magic Championship the same day there. So anyway it says at their site that
Pokemon State Championships This event will be held in our Game Annex at 8357 Golf Road.
I see that's a different address than Pastimes regular address of 8351... is that "Annex address" where I should be sending our players? Can any local players tell me about it, is it like next door or something? Do they have rules about no food inside? Should I be telling my players to eat before they get there? Anything else we should know about going there? I just want to save any confusion with my players who are attending and give them as many details this week at our States Practice tourney as possible.

A melted State Trophy? Are you nuts? I hear they look pretty sweet!

Als if you want to fill out your Deck Registration Form ahead of time, here's a quick link to it for you:

Camille- Its in the Same building but you do know they have moved right? You go in the front door and theres a gaming area in the back. So no,no different door, its the same door that it was for Cities there.

There is no food or drink allowed in the building. But sometimes they let people do it. So just to be safe i would say eat before or unless you have to eat outside if they talk to you there.

nothing else i can really think about that you need.

meganium45
03/08/2006, 02:38 PM
If they go to the main Pastimes address....they will get there.

Kind of nice to have our own dedicated space to spread out in away from scary Magic players...

Look forward to seeing you all there!

Hopefully, we will have the fun judges!!!

Thanks

It's a block away from an indoor mall. There are at least 2 sitdown places in the parking lot, plus a Wendy's not too far away. There's another sitdown accross the street, plus another 2 fast food places there. A couple of Asian buffets in that strip (from what I remember). There is a McD's and BK not too far from the tournament. There will be plenty of eatings to be had here.

Well guys. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it for a few reasons...

1. I'll be at the UIC Pavillion for the FIRST Midwest Regional (http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2006/regional/midwest.htm) (Team #111 ftw!)
2. Right after #1, I'll be at Harper College, seeing Guys and Dolls (a few friends are in it)
3. I don't have a deck ready.

We are going to miss you 0

I am actually getting geared for this event!

We have a 5* lineup of judges....

Including...

Ness...Me....Colin (if he comes)...Andrew

More judges to be added.

Talk to you soon.

Vince

Oh and to confirm...

1. We have dedicated space, the annex is quite large.

2. Lunch break is for one hour...noone gets left behind.

3. The goal is to keep this thing moving...you will notice, perhaps, a lack of computers being used.

4. Cut in all 3 divisions will be, at most, a top 8 (straight off the PUI website - their requirement)

From the Site:

What is the tournament structure?

The tournament is run using the Modified Format and Swiss pairings. See the Tournament Rules for additional information about the Modified and Swiss formats. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event.

After Swiss rounds are complete, there will be a cut to single-elimination finals. The number of players to qualify for the finals will depend on the total attendance in each age bracket, with a maximum of 8 playing off in any one division.

I just asked that question twice, and it still didn't get answered, with you, thats a third time.

Lets go for a fourth one: "Is there going to be side events for those who didn't make top cut?"

And another question, these judges are friendly right? What if I see one near at the begining on the turn and I mulligan, can I just show him my hand instead of my opponent? lol

meganium45
03/13/2006, 02:51 PM
A. There will be side events. I have to work these out with Alan, TBA - count on a draft though

B. If you find yourself in a Jynx v. Jynx battle, do me a favor and call me over right away.

C. If you mulligan you must show your opponent and give them time to look.

D. There will be side events. I have to work these out with Alan, TBA - count on a draft though.

03/13/2006, 03:00 PM
What is a draft??

OK, a draft is the REAL way to play sealed.

Each player gets 6 packs of Pokemon Cards (no don't open them yet!)

You get placed in "ideally" a 6 person pod. You open a pack, select one card, and pass the rest of the pack, getting a pack minus one card from the player next to you. Repeat until all cards gone...go to pack 2 and pass the opposite way...3...4...5..6..

Then you build a 40 card deck - with no limitations as to numbers of cards...pull 2 shinings, play 2 shinings...we actually had a deck where a kid played 20 Magma's Rhyhorns and WON.

I provide the basic energy (not dark or metal) and off you go!

Talk to you soon!

The Vernolalock in a repeat of Midwest Regionals last year takes both 11-14 and the 15+ age divisions. Details to come, in short I faced menoknow in t8, he was running Dustox ex/Grumpig and against rocklock and went 2-0. I faced Pooka in t4 and he took me all the way to game 3 with less than ten minutes left. I rip a turn 1 sand damage ttar with a double rainbow and a tricky gym, hit the jirachi for ten, then ko it the next turn for an early lead on prizes. I win on time. t2 was interesting, I had never played against armaldo with rocklock but I knew and card with both my major weaknesses could be trouble. I figured out than rocklock can easily take down armaldo ex if you know which calculations to make and do not misplay in key situations.

My brother faced eggs.dec in t2 and it came down to time on an incomplete game 2 (with his opponent only having 1 prize left!) Our other brother james made t4, pretty good for hardly playing any pokemon at all.
